Howard Barnit Gilmer, 85, Nickelsville, Va.
Services for Howard Barnit Gilmer, 85, Nickelsville, Va., who entered into rest Wednesday (March 2, 2005), will be at 10 a.m. today in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the Gate City Funeral Home with Rev. G.W. White officiating. Eulogy will be given by Randy Gilmer.

Music will be provided by the Quillen sisters.

Military graveside rites will be at Nickelsville Cemetery, Nickelsville, Va., conducted by American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Inez Murphy Hobbs, 80, Jonesborough.
Graveside services for Inez Murphy Hobbs, 80, of Jonesborough, who went to be with the Lord on Monday (Feb. 28, 2005), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va. Family and friends are asked to meet at Oak Hill Funeral Home at 10 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.

Pallbearers will be John Hughes, Joe Dean, Joe Robbins, Lynnus Sherfey, David Jones and Jerry Murphy.

Members of her Sunday School class at Harmony Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The staff of Oak Hill Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Hobbs.

Ona Evelyn Hood, 79, Church Hill.
Committal services for Ona Evelyn Berry Hood, 79, Church Hill, who went to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning (Mar. 1, 2005), will take place at 11 a.m. today at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is serving the family of Ona Evelyn Hood.

Loraine Light, 81, Kingsport.
Services for Loraine Light, 81, Kingsport, who passed away at 3 p.m. Monday (Feb. 28, 2005), will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Wesley Light officiating.

Calling hours are from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the funeral home and anytime at the residence.

Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Blizzard, Randy Jackson, Kevin Jackson, Charles Crowder, Richie Crowder and Michael Pratt.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Marshall, Ed Crowder, Bennie Blizzard, Doug Light, Dana Light Jr., Wesley Light, Marion Light and Douglas Hamblen.

Alberta Marshall, 95, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Alberta Bellamy T. Marshall, 95, was born to George W. and Annie Akard Bellamy on September 4, 1909 and died March 3, 2005 at Church Hill Health and Rehab Center after a lingering illness. It was Alberta's wish to go to her heavenly home.

Alberta attended elementary school in a Presbyterian School in Carter's Valley, then went to Church Hill High School when she was able to ride a horse. She began college in Johnson City and had to quit so she could take care of her ill mother.

Following her mother's death, she married Tommy C. Templeton and had a son, Tommy C. Templeton, Jr. Her son, Tommy, Jr., and his wife, Patsy Pierce Templeton had two sons.

Mrs. Marshall was very active in church work at First Methodist Church in Kingsport. After her husband died, she remarried to William Marshall. She and her husband then joined Mount. Carmel United Methodist Church, where she served as secretary to the Sunday School. Knowing each child by name in her church, she bought them a Christmas gift each year as long as she was able to do so. The church was first in her life. She was a loving and giving person, and made afghans and gave them to the employees at Baysmont.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Tommy Templeton, Sr. and William J. Marshall; her parents, George W. Bellamy and Annie Akard Bellamy; and one son, Tommy Templeton, Jr.

She is survived by one grandson, James Robert "Bobby" Templeton of Nashville, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren, Summer, Stone, and Jason; two sisters, Annie Elizabeth Calhoun and husband, Fred of Church Hill and Juanita McCulley of Kingsport; one niece and two nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted in the Oak Hill Memorial Park on Saturday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Steve Gott and Rev. Larry DeVault officiating.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery prior to services.

In-lieu-of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Carmel United Methodist Church.

Oak Hill Funeral Home is in charge.

Joel B. Morgan, Jr., 82, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Joel B. Morgan, Jr., 82, passed away Thursday (March 03, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Joel was born July 2, 1922 in Marshall, N.C. He was the son of the late Joel Birtus Morgan, Sr., and Maxie (Briggs) Morgan. He was a graduate of Marshall High School and Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, N.C. He was the founder of Morgan Tire Service in Kingsport and was an avid golfer. He proudly served his country during World War II in Europe with the 102nd Army Engineers. He was a 50 year member of the Litz Manor Baptist Church in Kingsport, and loved his church dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Woodrow Morgan; and sister, Eileen Morgan Hensley.

Joel is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Kathleen (Mullins) Morgan of Kingsport; sons, Bill Morgan and wife, Rhonda, Charles Morgan and wife, Trish all of Kingsport; daughters, Sue Ealy and husband, Rick of Greeneville, Phyllis White and husband, David of Knoxville, Rita Snoddy and husband, Phillip of Jonesboro; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the East Lawn Funeral Home.

Services will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bill Steele officiating.

Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 3/265 at 2 p.m. Sunday in the East Lawn Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Builders Sunday School Class of Litz Manor Baptist Church.

Those desiring may make donations to the Litz Manor Baptist Church in memory of Joel B. Morgan.

Clifford Prindle Moore, 95, Gray.
GRAY - Services for Clifford Prindle Moore, 95, of Gray, for the past two years a resident of Greystone Health Care Center, went to be with the Lord he so dearly loved on Tuesday (March 1, 2005), will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the Snyder Funeral Home Chapel, Gray with pastors Arden Taylor and Gene Mermilliod officiating.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Jacksonville, Fla., at a later date.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Herndon, Charles Chandler, Steve and Wes Kintner and Ray Garrison.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tri-Cities Baptist Church building fund, 171 Promise Land Drive, Gray, Tenn. 37615.

Mary E. Neff, 83, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Mary Emily Shrader Neff, 83, went to be with the Lord on Thursday morning (March 3, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a sudden illness.

She was born in Wytheville, Va., but had resided most of her life in Kingsport. She was a faithful member of Bethel Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Neff was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. After raising her family, she enjoyed a second career for nearly two decades as a sales associate for the Why Not Shop in Kingsport.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald "Jake" Neff, Sr.; her father and mother; and two brothers.

Surviving are two daughters, Judy A. Stapleton and husband, Kenneth B., Chuckey, Tenn., Jeanne Neff Feil and husband, Gary M., Sacramento, Calif.; one son, Donald J. Neff, Jr. and wife, Terri, Kingsport; four grandchildren, Cindy Anderson, Daniel J. Hodge, Loren Feil, and Bryan Feil; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Eanes, Chesapeake, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Gary R. Bement officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Friends and family should meet at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Sunday to go in procession.

Pallbearers will be Brian J. Anderson, Daniel J. Hodge, Jim Blalock, Kenneth B. Stapleton, Gary M. Feil, and Bryan J. Feil.

Cheryl Kay Reed, 40, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Cheryl Kay Reed, 40, was escorted by the angels to be with our Lord on Thursday morning (March 3, 2005) at Holston Valley Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Arrangements will be announced by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Downtown Kingsport.

Bill Robbins, 79, Kingston, Tenn.
World War II Veteran, Hero
KINGSTON, Tenn. - William George "Bill" Robbins, 79, formerly of St. Charles, Va., and Dayton, Ohio, passed away Wednesday (Mar. 2, 2005), at his home.

He was the son of the late Charles B. and Lena Hedrick Robbins, and the loving husband of 53 years to Thelma "June" Webb of Clinchco, Va., who passed away in late 2003.

Mr. Robbins entered the U.S. Navy in 1944, and served as a Fireman First Class aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Pringle from October 1944 to April 16, 1945, when the ship was sunk by a Japanese suicide plane, taking the lives of 93 crewmen. Mr. Robbins received three Purple Hearts for wounds received as a result of enemy actions and seven service ribbons.

After his discharge, Mr. Robbins settled in Dayton, Ohio, where he was employed by Delco Moraine, a division of General Motors. He earned an engineering degree from the University of Dayton, and retired in 1976 to the Watts Bar Lake near Kingston, Tenn.

Mr. Robbins enjoyed home projects and renovation, remodeling and adding-on to seven houses over 50 years. He was active in the Kingston Chapters of American Veterans and the Military Order of the Purple Hearts. He was also, a 32nd degree Mason.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene, Lawrence (Donnie), and the Rev. James Robbins. The family said, "Many will miss his boyish grin, generosity, and patient spirit".

Mr. Robbins is survived by two children, William "Ralph" Robbins, New York, N.Y., and Lisa Gale Robbins, Kingston, Tenn.; two sisters, Mary Helen Cox of Pennington Gap, Va., and Lorraina Pennington of Gate City, Va.; and many other family members.

The children would like to acknowledge their Aunt "Sis" and Uncle Ralph for their unselfish, unending support during this time. We can never repay you.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Sturgill Funeral Home, Pennington Gap, Va.

Services will be immediately following at 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Roy Corbin officiating.

Military graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Lee Memorial Gardens, Woodway, Va.

The family requests that any memorials be made in the form of donations to the Kingston Chapter of Disabled American Veterans, 115 King Circle, Kingston, Tenn. 37763.

Virginia Kathleen Self, 86, Rogersville.
Services for Virginia Kathleen Hagood Self, 86, of Rogersville, who died Tuesday (March 1, 2005), will be held at Persia United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. today with the Rev. Fred Dimond and the Rev. Carl Jones officiating.

The body will lie in state one hour prior to the services.

Interment will follow in the Persia Community cemetery (beside the Persia United Methodist Church).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Persia United Methodist Church.

Carl Hale Smith, 84, Church Hill.
Military graveside services for Carl Hale Smith, 84, of 825 Goshen Valley Road, Church Hill, who went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday (March 1, 2005), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at McPheeters Bend cemetery by the Hawkins County Color Guard and Tennessee National Guard.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Long, Bill Droke, Jason Skelton, Chad McLain, Doug Benton and Randall Jones.

Honorary bearers will be Haskel Jones, John Snapp Jr., John Scism and Ray Marshall.

John Stewart, III, 61, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - John Stewart, III, 61, was called home by his Heavenly Father on Wednesday (March 2, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

John was born in Kingsport where he had lived all of his life. His Christian walk was unquestionable, for he was his word and his word was God. At the age of nine, he was saved and became a member of Central Baptist Church where he served on numerous committees and boards that he believed was work for the Lord.

John was a 1962 graduate of Douglass High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. from 1962 until 1966 and was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal. Later he would become a member of the National Guard in Gate City, Va., where he served with the 1030th Engineer Battalion for 21 years, retiring as a Staff Sergeant. He also served in Desert Storm where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

He was a civic-minded individual who worked tirelessly in the community and the city of Kingsport. Among the many awards he received from the military, church, job and community, he received the Jaycees Distinguished Service Award in 1975. As well, John had served as president of the Douglass Alumni Association from 1999 to 2001.

While in the Marine Corp., he attended East Carolina College and upon being discharged, returned home to continue his education, graduating from Steed Business College. He was employed at Kingsport Boys Club and later worked for 31 years at Tennessee Eastman Company, where he received numerous awards and recognition for suggestions that would improve the company.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Stewart, Jr., and Louise McClintock Stewart.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 41 years, Brenda (Penny) Stewart of Kingsport; daughters, Seana Meddling and husband, Donald of Nashville, Nina Stewart of Atlanta, and Joy Stewart of Kingsport; grandson, John Manesseh Meddling of Nashville; sisters, Louetta Hall of Kingsport and Mary Kathy Pride and husband, Gilbert of Nashville; brother, Lucious Stewart of Oakland, Calif.; mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Johnson; a loving sister-in-law, Ms. Wanda Johnson; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; a devoted family friend, Fredia Flack.

Calling hours will be Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.

A celebration of John's life will be conducted at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bill Hampton, Rev. Kenneth Calvart, Rev. Rochelle Maxwell, and Dr. Rev. Anthony Daniels officiating.

A military graveside service will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post No. 3 and Gate City Post No. 265 at Holston View cemetery immediately following the chapel service.

Pallbearers will be Jack Pierce, Van Dobbins, Curtis Johnson, William Kincaid, David Horton, Willie Hodges, Ozine Bly, Bill Hartgrove, David Luther and Montgomery Hunter.

Honorary pallbearers are Avery Logan, Willard Clay Long, and Jeffery Spann.

Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is in charge of the arrangements.
