Julia Sumner of Norwich, N.Y. The couple shared the same birthdate with Julia older by three hours; he often joked about marrying an "older woman." They shared their 90th birthday a month before she passed away in August 1999.

He often told folks he was aiming for the big 1-0-0 with the same big smile that was a familiar sight at First Baptist, Jacksonville, where he ushered for many years.
Following a serious illness in 1990 his greatest joy was telling how much the Lord had done for him, often concluding prayer with "...and Jesus, I hope You have a real good day, too." After moving to Tennessee in 1997, he lived with a daughter and son-in-law where he became a member of Tri-Cities Baptist Church, Gray, which he also dearly loved. Even there he could be overheard saying, "if you're ever in Jacksonville be sure to visit First Baptist." His daughters say "Daddy loved people and made friends everywhere he went--at church, in stores, hospital, restaurants, even rest stops on the Interstates." He will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched.
