Myrtle M. Spivey, 79, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Myrtle M. Spivey, 79, went to be with our Lord and Savior early Monday (Feb. 28, 2005).

Mrs. Spivey will always be treasured by her family as a sophisticated, thoughtful, and very loving mother and wife. She was adored by her grandchildren for her whimsical personality and generous ways. She will be dearly missed by all.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kingsport.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Alice Woods McAninch; one sister, Florence Chase; three brothers, R.C. McAninch Jr., James McAninch, and Bobby McAninch; and a grandson, Jeffrey Scott Collier II.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Spivey; two daughters, Pamela Collins of Atlanta, and Denise Collier of Richmond, Ky.; four grandchildren, Allison Stuetzer of Atlanta, Sherrod Collins in U.S. Army, Ft. Hood, Lauren Collier and Adam Collier of Richmond, Ky.; three sisters, Katherine Hines, Connie Monday, both of Kingsport, and Betty Hensley of Jonesborough; two brothers, Herman McAninch and Frank McAninch; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. today at Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Herman McAninch, Stoney McAninch, Allen Hensley, Scott Collier, Brian McAninch and Pfc. Robert Collins.

Christopher Keller will serve as honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 6906 Kingston Pike, Suite 201, Knoxville, TN 37919.

The staff of Oak Hill Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Spivey.

Wanda Faye Tankersley, 65, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Wanda Faye Tankersley, 65, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday (March 1, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mrs. Tankersley was born in Scott County, Va., but had lived the majority of her life in Kingsport. She was a charter member of the Full Gospel Assembly of God Church in Bristol. Wanda was a loving mother and grandmother, who was loved by all. She always saw the good in everyone and loved to serve others.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Worley Tankersley; parents, Howard and Gladys Tipton; and one brother, James Tipton.

Surviving are one daughter, Debbie Kestner and husband Phil of Kingsport; one son, Phillip Tankersley of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Christy Tankersley of Kingsport, Shaun Kestner of the Naval Ceremonial Guard in Washington, D.C., Dustin "Dee" Kestner of Kingsport, and Landon and Ashley Tankersley, both of Kingsport; two sisters, Betty Hicks of Blountville, and Mable Honaker and husband Clyde of Kingsport; one brother, Ralph Tipton of Kingsport; a sister-in-law, Jean Tipton; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Phil Kestner officiating.

Graveside services will follow immediately in Oak Hill Memorial Park.

For those who desire, memorial contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Full Gospel Assembly of God Church Building Fund, 94 Ridgecrest Rd., Bristol, TN 37620.

The staff of Oak Hill Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Tankersley.

Elsie Hall Taylor, 89, Pound, Va.
Services for Elsie Hall Taylor, 89, Pound, Va., who went home to be with the Lord Monday (Feb. 28, 2005), will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at Hamilton Chapel in Pound, Va., with Pastor Greg Cyphers and Elder Freddy Short officiating.

The church choir will provide the music.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the church and anytime at her residence.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Hamilton Cemetery, Bold Camp section of Pound, Va. The family will meet at the church at 12 noon to go in procession to the cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

In memory of Mrs. Taylor, contributions may be made to Hamilton Chapel, P.O. Box 772, Pound, Va. 24279; Pound Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 711, Pound, Va. 24279 or Holston View United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 2284, Weber City, Va. 24290.

Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Millicent Lee Vincent, 77, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Millicent Lee Cromer Vincent, 77, died Tuesday (March 2, 2005) at her home in Kingsport.

She suffered frail health for several years and is now freed from earthly bounds to join her husband of 47 years in eternal rest. Mrs. Vincent was the daughter of the late Everett Cromer, deceased in 1939, and Mayme Elswick Cromer, who died in 2001 shortly after her 100th birthday.

Mrs. Vincent was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Edward Vincent, in 1991.

She was born in southern West Virginia and spent many of her early years in the Gilbert area. She moved with her family to Tazewell, Va., in 1956 where she remained until her declining years forced her to relocate to Kingsport to be near her family. Her life was devoted to raising her four daughters, maintaining a home, sewing and gardening. She surrounded herself with the things she loved the most ... her family, her books, her Boston Terriers.

She was a member of Tazewell Presbyterian Church and the Eastern Star.

She will be deeply missed by her brother, Everett Cromer of Tazewell, Va.; daughters, Millie Grindstaff of Ocala, Fla., Beverly Shelton, Chris Hamilton and Donna Carver, all of Kingsport; sons-in-law, Michael Shelton and Tony Carver; and grandchildren, Brock Meade, Karen Hamilton, Danielle Carver and Robert Carver. Her most recent canine companions, Betsy and Baby, will sadly grieve her absence as well as other friends and relatives she leaves behind.

Visitation will be held at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home in Kingsport on Friday.

Services are incomplete and will be announced later by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Dorothy Gentry Warren, Kingsport.
Committal service for Dorothy Gentry Warren, Kingsport, who passed away on Sunday evening (Feb. 27, 2005), will be held at 11 a.m. today at Oak Hills cemetery Mausoleum with Dr. Jack Parrott officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Warren Smith, Tony Smith, Roger Smith, Gene Fox, Hank Hare, Terry Utsman, Jeff Warren and Milton Rosenberg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Madison House Aviary Fund, 2000 Greenway St., Kingsport, TN 37660.

Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, is in charge.

Robert Whisenhunt, 73, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Graveside services for Robert George Whisenhunt, 73, of Kingsport, who passed away Thursday (Feb. 24, 2005), will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at Oak Hill cemetery with the Rev. Brian Schuler officiating.

Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown, is in charge of arrangements.

Florence Adams, 88, Wise, Va.
WISE, Va. - Mrs. Florence Adams, 88, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday (March 1, 2005) at Mountain View Medical Center, Norton, Va., with her family by her side.

Mrs. Adams was a charter member the Independent Bible Church, Pound, Va. Florence attended Glamorgan Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Wise, Va.

Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Adams; two sons, James Woodrow Adams and D.L. Adams; a grandson, Mark Adams; five sisters, Etta Robbins, Alta Sowards, Mattie Engle, Laura Whitson and Victoria Bolling; four brothers, Napoleon Boggs, Lloyd Sturgill, Burley Sturgill and Henry Sturgill.

Survivors include her daughters, Gayle Kilgore, Pound, Va., Gwen Fleming and husband Starling, Pound, Va., Jane Jarvis and husband Dave, Wise, Va.; grandchildren, Todd Adams, Scot Adams, Jason Hughes, Chris Kilgore and Sean Kilgore; three great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Irene Adams, Pound, Va.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Baker Funeral Home, Pound, Va.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the Sadie Baker Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Greg Sergent officiating.

Interment will be in Woodrow Adams Family Cemetery, Pound, Va.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Mary Ellen Beebe, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Mary Ellen Taylor Beebe passed away Tuesday (March 1, 2005) from congestive heart failure.

Mary Ellen loved to care for her animals, watch wildlife and paint at her farm near Kingsport where she lived for the past 30 years. Mary Ellen was the past president of the Sullivan County Humane Society and devoted her life to the care of numerous horses, cats, birds and dogs, many of whom had formerly been abused. She also bred and showed champion beagles.

As a young woman, Mary Ellen was well-known in Knoxville where she showed her horse "Destiny" and won many awards and trophies. She also taught a number of children how to ride horses on the family farm on Lyon's Bend Road in Knoxville. Mary Ellen will be remembered for her advocacy for animals, the ferocity of her love for people, the beauty of her art and her independent spirit.

She is survived by her brother, George Taylor; sister, Evelyn Cudd; daughter Margaret Beebe Held; and her two grandchildren, Faith and Jacob Held.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel, Knoxville, Tenn.

Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at the mortuary chapel with the Rev. Shirley DeLap officiating.

Interment to follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery, located on what used to be a part of her grandfather's farm.

Elbert Lewis Boggs, 58, Pound, Va.
POUND, Va. - Elbert Boggs, 58, passed Sunday (Feb. 27, 2005) at his residence in Pound.

He was a retired coal truck driver and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester E. (Oop) Boggs and Ollie Kate (Stanfield) Boggs.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Boggs, Pound; daughter, Angela Cradic, Johnson City; two grandchildren; brother, C.L. Boggs, Pound; and a host of friends and loved ones.

Calling hours are from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at Baker Funeral Home, Pound, Va.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the Sadie Baker Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Carmon Gentry officiating.

Pound VFW Post 9600 will conduct military graveside services Thursday at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Va. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1 p.m. for graveside services.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers are Andy Sheppard, William Caudill, Joe Litton, Edwin Evans, Andrew Raymond, Willard Boggs, Tommy Hillman and Harry Nibert.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pound VFW Post 9600.

Hubert William Couch, 84, Coeburn, Va.
COEBURN, Va. - Hubert William "Baldy" Couch, 84, died Monday (Feb. 28, 2005) at his home in Coeburn, Va.

Mr. Couch was a retired coal miner and a member of UMWA. He also served in the Navy during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Bernice "Tince" Couch; his parents, Charlie Floyd and Gertie Ellen Quinley Couch; son, Joe Couch; eight brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include four daughters, Diane Bond and Katherine Hensley, both of Coeburn, Sue Maples, Panama City, Fla., and Patricia "Pean" Adkins, Big Stone Gap; two sons, Charlie Couch, Coeburn, and Hubert William "Bill" Couch, Missoula, Mont.; sister, Ruth Hamm, Kingsport; brother, Willard "Bud" Couch, Delaware; special caregivers, Sharon Evans and Wynona Dykes; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; several nephews and several nieces.

Calling hours are after 6 p.m. today at Estes Funeral Home, Coeburn, Va.

Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Curtis Bond and Rev. Joe Buchanan officiating.

Graveside committal and burial will be conducted at 12 noon Thursday in the Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Coeburn.

Joan E. Gibson, 66, Big Stone Gap, Va.
BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Joan E. Gibson, 66, passed away Tuesday (March 1, 2005) at Lonesome Pine Hospital.

Arrangements are incomplete.

Gilliam Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, Va., is serving the Gibson family.

Inez Murphy Hobbs, 80, Jonesborough.
JONESBOROUGH - Inez Murphy Hobbs, 80, of Jonesborough, went to be with the Lord on Monday (Feb. 28, 2005) at her home.

Mrs. Hobbs was born in Scott County, Va., however, spent the last 57 years in the Harmony community of Jonesborough. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

She loved farming, cooking, gardening, and working with her flowers. She thought the world of her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

Preceding Mrs. Hobbs in death were her husband, Earl Hobbs (Jan. 3, 2004); and her parents, John and Osta Murphy.

Surviving are her son, Rev. E. Dwight Hobbs and wife Donna of Elizabethton; one grandson, William David Hobbs; one granddaughter, Damaris Ann Hobbs; one sister, Beulah Jones of Kingsport; two brothers, John W. Murphy Jr. of Kingsport and Eugene Murphy of Plainwell, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Steve Pate and the Rev. Mike Guinn officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.

Pallbearers will be John Hughes, Joe Dean, Joe Robbins, Lynnus Sherfey, David Jones and Jerry Murphy.

Members of her Sunday School class at Harmony Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The staff of Oak Hill Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Hobbs.
