McKinley D. Winters, 84, Gray.
GRAY - McKinley D. Winters, 84, was called to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday (April 1, 2005) at Lakebridge Healthcare Center after an extended illness.
A former resident of Carter County, he had resided in Washington County since 1952. Mr. Winters was the son of James and Nellie Whittington Winters.
He had been a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Gray since 1957. Mr. Winters had served as both a Sunday School teacher and a deacon.
He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Emma Johnson Winters; three sisters; and four brothers.
Surviving are two sons, Baxter Winters and his wife, Sandra, Wade Winters and his wife, Marcella; and a granddaughter, Julia Winters, all of Gray; a sister, Phyllis Griffith, of Oak Ridge; and several nieces and nephews.
His family will receive friends at Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services, Johnson City, on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Don Foster and Pastor Ronnie Brashear officiating.
Music will be under the direction of the Oak Grove Trio.
The committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens with military honors bestowed by the Charles DeWitt Byrd VFW Post #3382 of Kingsport. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home by 10 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Fields, Johnny Fields, Brian Cade, Ray Bowman, Ken Land, and Boots Yarber.

Bessie Brewster, 73, Church Hill.
CHURCH HILL - Bessie Brewster, 73, passed away Thursday(March 31, 2005) following a brief illness.
Mrs. Broyles was a native of of West Virginia, but had spent most of her life in Surgoinsville. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Jessee Moore and Birdie Miller Moore; her husband, George W. Brewster and two daughters.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Brewster, Clarksville and James Brewster, Surgoinsville; one daughter, Julia Ann Scott, Gassaway, W.Va.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 11 to 1 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home, Church Hill.
Services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Hugh Dean Rutledge and Rev. Roger Barr officiating.
Burial will follow in the Armstrong Cemetery.

CHURCH HILL - Rev. Donald Eugene Broyles, 73, passed away Thursday (March 31, 2005) following a brief illness.
Rev. Broyles was a native of Washington County but had spent most of his life in Church Hill. He was a Missionary Baptist minister and attended Pleasant Mount Church. He was a retired employee of Holliston Mills.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee and Mae Moore Broyles; two brothers, Jake Broyles and Jimmy Lee Broyles; three sisters, Kate Crawford, Marietta Castle and Eloise Broyles.
He is survived by his wife, Onie Morrison Broyles, Church Hill; one brother, Rev. Paul Broyles, Limestone; one sister, Laura Belle Salyer, Fall Branch; one special great-niece, Jaclyn Hill; special great-nephew, Tyler Hill; several other nieces andnephews.
Calling hours are from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home, Church Hill.
Services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Lyle Housewright officiating.

KINGSPORT - Frank Charles, 91, was called home by The Lord to be with friends and loved ones at 9:24 a.m. Monday (March 28, 2005) following a period of declining health.
Frank was born in Warren County, Ill., and moved to Kingsport in 1933. He was an employee of Tennessee Eastman Company retiring from A.Y. Maintenance as a senior mechanic. He was a member of the TEC Camp Club and former member of the C.B. Club.
He attended Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.
His parents, Fred E. and Effie C. Charles; first wife, Anna Marie Charles; second wife, Florence Ellis Charles; son-in-law, David E. Frye; grandson, James R. Frye; great-grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Yakley, Billy Ellis and Brittney Ellis preceded him in death.
Surviving are daughters, Mrs. David E. (Gloria) Frye, Church Hill, Mrs. Harold (Frances) Shoemaker, Mount Carmel, Mrs. Ronald (Lela) Shupe, Waynesville, Mo., Mrs. Harold (Faye) Smith, Church Hill, Mrs. Enas (Brenda) Lord, Kingsport; sons, Wendell G. Charles, Rossford, Ohio, Phillip Ellis, Church Hill, Walter Ellis Jr., Kingsport; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

NORTON, Va. - Trula Gardner Clisso, 81, died Wednesday (March 30, 2005) in Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Norton.
She was a lifelong resident of the Norton area.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Clisso.
She is survived by sons, Mike Clisso of Wise, Va. and Greg Clisso of Norton, Va.; granddaughter, Laura Sowdon and husband Richard; grandson, Brendan Michael Clisso; great-granddaughter, Mya Rhiannon Sowdon; sister, Betty Lou Sturgill, Norton, Va.; brother, F.P. Robert Guy Conant, 85, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. - Robert Guy Conant, 85, passed away Thursday (March 23, 2005) in Pensacola.
He was born in Church Hill on March 5, 1925 and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving are two sons, Richard Conant of Destin, Fla., and Robert Conant of Mukilted, Wash.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gertrude and Gladys.
Services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2005.
Inurnment will be at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens.

Nathan Todd Ferrell, 35, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Nathan Todd Ferrell, 35, went to be with the Lord on Saturday (March 26, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born Jan. 29, 1970, Nathan had lived in Kingsport all of his life, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School where he was an outstanding football player.
Nathan was currently employed by Waste Management of Kingsport where he had 10 years of service.
Nathan was a gentle, caring individual who loved the Lord, life, and motorcycles. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William Trent and Bobbie Trent; paternal grandfather, George Ferrell.
Surviving are his parents, Waymon Ferrell and Mary Ruth Trent Ferrell of Kingsport; two brothers, Michael S. Ferrell and Christopher J. Ferrell, both of Nashville; paternal grandmother, Blanche Ferrell of Johnson City; several uncles, aunts, cousins, and numerous friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday at Oak Hill Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.

She was a lifelong resident of Claiborne County and a member of the Lone Mountain United Methodist Church.
