CHURCH HILL - Vernon R. Mullins, 81, died at Greystone Health Care Center in Blountville on Monday (March 28, 2005).
Born in Dickenson County, Va., he was the son of Elbert and Alice Belcher Mullins. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, World War II, and a janitor at the Salvation Army in Kingsport.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Mullins; son, Eddie; daughter, Kimberly Joe; brothers, Darrell, W.C.; and sister, Helen Large.
Surviving are his sons, Robert Mullins, Church Hill, and Donnie Mullins, Northern Virginia; brother, Carroll Ray Mullins, Jonesborough; sisters, Betty Mullins, Knoxville, and Casteline Mullins, Norton; one grandson, Zachary Israel Mullins; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. today at Clintwood Funeral Home with a service to follow at 7 p.m.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Capt. Steve Terry of the Salvation Army officiating.
Burial will follow at the Phipps Memorial Cemetery, Clintwood with the VFW Post 8979, DAV Chapter 35 and American Legion Post 227 conducting the graveside service.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.

BLACKWATER, Va. - Emmitt Osborne passed away Monday (March 28, 2005) at Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va.

Shirley A. Robinson, 67, Elizabethton.
ELIZABETHTON - Shirley A. Robinson, 67, 138 Robinson Lane, died Monday (March 28, 2005) at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness.
She was born in Hawkins County and had lived in Carter County for the last 28 years. Mrs. Robinson was raised by her grandparents, Lonnie and Nan Feagins, due to the death of her parents, Ralph and Anna Bea Roberts Feagins.
She was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church and Women on Mission. Mrs. Robinson was also a member of the local and national AARP, the Elizabethton Senior Citizens and volunteered at Sycamore Shoals Hospital as long as her health permitted.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Robinson was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Feagins.
Survivors are her husband of 28 years, J.C. Robinson, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Mary Alice Olterman, Church Hill; one daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and James Sells, Blountville; one stepdaughter, Ginger Robinson, Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Rachel Mitchell, Kingsport, Amy Waddell, Piney Flats, Travis Olterman, Church Hill, Arthur Olterman III, Portland, Tenn., Joseph Earl Olterman, Church Hill; seven great-grandchildren; one half-brother, Jimmy Feagins, Kingsport; two special sisters-in-law, Beatrice Bayan, Baltimore, Md., Janet Rosenbaum, Elizabethton; and special friends, Lula Childers, Debbie Buckles, and Judy Reed, all of Elizabethton; several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, and at other times at the residence, 138 Robinson Lane, Elizabethton.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Dennis Deese, Rev. Eric Eggers, and Rev. Burl Garland officiating.
Music will be under the direction of Ken Miller and Patty Hodge, soloists, and Sue Bowers, organist.
A graveside service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Wilson cemetery with Dr. Bill Duncan officiating. Everyone will meet at the funeral home chapel at 10:15 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Roger Lewis, Frank Childers, Dean Robinson, Daniel Grindstaff, Billy Joe Campbell, Leonard Lewis, Tommy Feagins and Charles Feagins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Feagins, Coy Wilson, members of Hunter First Baptist Bible Sunday School Class, members of Women on Mission, her good friends from Caldwell Springs Baptist Church, all the loving, caring, nursing staff of Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, Dr. Clarence Spannuth and Associates, Dr. Harold Alison and Associates, Dr. Mary Hooks and Associates, Dr. Robert Schubert, Barbara and Penny and all the wonderful staff of Johnson City Dialysis Center.

Harold Edward Rule, 75, Knoxville.
KNOXVILLE - Harold Edward Rule, 75, formerly of Kingsport, died on Sunday (March 27, 2005) after a long illness.
He was a chemical engineering graduate of the University of Louisville, J.B. Speed School of Engineering and was a member of Tau Beta Pi engineering society. He retired from Eastman Kodak in Kingsport after 33 years of service.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Kingsport where he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir.
He was preceded in death by his parents, V.L. (Jack) and Syble DeLozier Rule.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Brown Rule; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Valerie Rule, Houston, Tex.; daughter and son-in-law, Pat Rule and Bill Barkley, Knoxville; sister and husband, Christine and Paul Koenen; sister-in-law and husband, Dorothy and Russell Jonson; step-grandson Brent Barkley, and step-granddaughter Amanda Ryan.
Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory in Asheville, N.C. The Reverend Charles A. Jonson, nephew, of Dallas, Tex., will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the music program at First Baptist Church Kingsport, Alzheimer's Association or to the Kay Center Scholarship fund at Church Street United Methodist Church.

Henry Robert Stinnett, 67, Bristol, Tenn.
BRISTOL, Tenn. - Henry Robert "Bob" Stinnett, 67, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday (March 29, 2005) at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 2, 1937 in Buchanan, Va., to Luther C. and Beulah Mae Hawkins Stinnett. He moved to the Bristol area in the early 1950s. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
Bob was a retired equipment engineer with United Intermountain Telephone Co. (Sprint) and was a former member of the Junior Order of the Masons. He was a member of Beaverview Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Young Stinnett; two sons, Michael D. Stinnett and wife, Donna and Robert S. "Steve" Stinnett, all of Bristol, Tenn.; two sisters, Myrna S. O'Dell and husband, Malcolm of Kingsport, and Anna Mae Hess and husband, Frank of Piney Flats; brother, Luther C. Stinnett and wife, Betty of Bristol, Va.; four grandchildren, Sheena, Kelli, Kayla and Cortney, all of Bristol, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 tol 7:45 p.m. today at Akard Funeral Home, Bristol, Tenn.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Roy Yelton officiating.
The committal service and burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Glenwood Cemetery.

Lawrence L. Byington, 80, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Lawrence L. Byington, 80, went to be with the Lord Sunday evening (March 27, 2005) after a period of declining health.
He was born in Russell County, Va., and had resided in the Kingsport area for the past 53 years. Mr. Byington was a member of Lynn Garden Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He retired from Ball Brothers Furniture after 20 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Beatrice Byington; and a sister, Adeline Caudell.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Velma Cumbow Byington; a daughter, Deborah Lawson and husband, Kenny of Kingsport; one granddaughter, Audra Lawson of Kingsport; one grandson, Kenny Lawson Jr. of Greeneville; a very loving special first cousin, Walter Porter; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Oak Hill Funeral Home today from 5 to 7 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel at 7 p.m. today with the Rev. Carl Strickler officiating.
Graveside services will be in Oak Hill Memorial Park on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Claude E. Carter, 61, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Claude "C.C." Carter, 61, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Sunday (March 27, 2005).
He was born in Osaka, Va., and raised in the Big Stone Gap area. Claude was a Christian of the Baptist faith and had a tremendous love for music.
He joined the Army in 1962, was stationed at Ft. Knox, Ky., and later sent via Hawaii and Japan to serve in Korea near the DMZ. He returned to serve in Ft. Lewis, Wash., and Fort Erwin, Calif., in the Mojave Desert. As a veteran of the Vietnam era, he earned the rank of Sgt. E-5 and received the Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Carter retired from Quebecor World in 2001 after 35 years of service.
Preceding him in death were a sister, Faye E. Melton; his mother, Pearlie B. Carter; father, Worley E. Carter; and his wife, Bertha Graham Carter.
Surviving are one son, Eddie L. Carter, Big Stone Gap; three daughters, Cathy J. Neeley and husband, Lynn, Big Stone Gap, Jeanne L. Harwood and husband, Kevin, Sebastian, Fla., Patricia A. Meredith and husband, Charles, Big Stone Gap; five step-children, Noah McMurray, Ronald McMurray, Angie Sumner, Connie Lindley, Judy Duncan, all of Kingsport; 23 grandchildren; two brothers, James W. Carter, Dryden, Va., and Delmer Joe Carter, Orlando, Fla.; best friend, Huey Hass and Pauline, Duffield, Va.; and mother of his children, Glenna Varner, Appalachia, Va.

GATE CITY, Va. - Benny "Ben" L. Clark Sr., 57, went to be with the Lord on Monday (March 28, 2005) at his residence.
He was born in Scott County, Va., on May 14, 1947 to the late Robert W. Clark Jr.
Including his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Carter Clark, 2002; sister, Mary Lynn Clark; and brother, Larry W. Clark.
Survivors include his mother, Edna Lane Clark, Gate City, Va.; daughters and son-in-law, Betty Clark and Charlie Ratliff and Laura Walker, all of Gate City, Va.; sons, Benny Lewis Clark Jr., and Derrick Landon Walker, both of Gate City, Va., and Jeff Kiser, Kingsport; sister, Junette Clark, Gate City, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Kathy Clark, Gate City, Va.; grandchildren, Channing Ratliff, Bethany Grace Ratliff and Benjamin Clark; several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT - Nathan Todd Ferrell, 35, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday (March 26, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born Jan. 29, 1970, Nathan had lived in Kingsport all of his life, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School where he was an outstanding football player.
Nathan was currently employed by Waste Management of Kingsport where he had 10 years of service.
Nathan was a gentle, caring individual who loved the Lord, life, and motorcycles. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William Trent and Bobbie Trent; paternal grandfather, George Ferrell.
Surviving are his parents, Waymon Ferrell and Mary Ruth Trent Ferrell of Kingsport; two brothers, Michael S. Ferrell and Christopher J. Ferrell, both of Nashville; paternal grandmother, Blanche Ferrell of Johnson City; several uncles, aunts, cousins, and numerous friends.
