Ruth Fleenor, 87, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Ruth Fleenor, 87, of Rogersville, went to join her beloved husband and dearly departed family Sunday morning (March 27, 2005) at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

She was a member of West View Baptist Church and was retired from International Printing Pressman's and Assistant's Union (IPP&AU) in Washington, D.C. Ruth was a devoted mother and homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Burleigh F. Fleenor; parents, Philip and Mary Weston; and brothers, Bill Weston and J.C. Weston.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Fleenor and Ronald Fleenor and wife Catherine, all of Rogersville; one daughter, Theresa Longdo and husband Michael of Barnegat, N.J.; four grandchildren, Glenn Fleenor of Morristown, Alice Ann Fleenor of Knoxville, Jennifer Longdo and Stephanie Longdo of Barnegat, N.J.

Calling hours will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Services will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ray Mullins officiating.

Interment will follow in Hawkins County Memorial Gardens.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions in memory of Ruth to the local Humane Society, 5180 Highway 11W, Rogersville, TN 37857.

Brice Hamilton, 82, Kingsport.
Services for Brice Forgey Hamilton, 82, Dunbar Street, Kingsport, who went to be with the Lord Thursday morning (March 24, 2005), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at St. Mark's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Tweed and the Rev. Ray Mullins officiating.

Music will be provided by the church choir.

The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Entombment will follow in Tri-Cities Memory Gardens with American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265, Joe W. Byrd, Chaplain, in charge.

Kathy Marie Hartley, 54, Hampton.
HAMPTON - Kathy Marie Hill Hartley, 54, 184 Mountain View Circle, Hampton, died Sunday (March 27, 2005) in Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a lengthy illness.

A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of Irene Arnett Hill of Elizabethton and the late Robert Hill. Mrs. Hartley was a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church and a retired employee of American Water Heater Co. She was a loving wife, mother and sister.

Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Tonie Elwayne Hartley; one son, Kelvin Dewyne Hartley of the home; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Mary Ruth Hill of Unicoi, Vincent and Carolyn Hill of Surgoinsville, and Wade and Linda Gail Hill of Elizabethton; one sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Robert Bob Sams of Elizabethton; special aunts, Zedia Ellis and Martha Cress; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and nephews, nieces; a special niece, Brandy Arnett; a special nephew, Eric Sams; brother-in-law, Ronald Ivan Hartley; and special in-laws, Rod and Rose Hill of Elizabethton.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Memorial Funeral Chapel, Elizabethton. Friends may call at the residence at any time.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bobby Stout officiating.

Music will be under the direction of Dean Palmer and Lavanda Biggs.

Graveside and interment will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the National Cemetery, Mountain Home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral chapel at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery.

Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral chapel at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, will be Jeremy Hill, Eric Sams, Robert Bob Sams, David Ellis, Ikis Nave and Jim Ingram.

Honorary pallbearers will be employees of James H. Quillen V.A. Hospital, members of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church, Bill Bartz, Jamie Heaton, Dee Chapel and George Light and special friends of Mountain View Circle.

A special thank you is extended to Dr. Todd Whitake, R.N. Donna and Dr. Hamil and staff.

Ralph O. Hartsock, 75, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Ralph O. Hartsock, 75, passed away Monday (March 28, 2005) at Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mr. Hartsock was born in Scott County, Va. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Ralph retired from Grieff Brothers with over 30 years of service as a machinist.

He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Hartsock; parents, William McKinley Hartsock and Sarah A. Wright; brother, William McKinley (Pete) Hartsock Jr.; sisters, Helen Gregory and Vida Lee Garrett.

Mr. Hartsock is survived by his wife, Eula Mowell Hartsock, of the home; daughter, Ms. Kathy Benton, Kingsport; sons, Rusty Hartsock and wife Regina and Michael Hartsock and wife Amy, both of Kingsport; grandchildren, Christy Marcincuk, Josh Benton, Lexi Hartsock, Nikeeta Fink and Dakota Fink; great-grandchildren, Miranda Marcincuk, Blake Marcincuk and Anthony Benton; nieces, Charlotte Berry, Jean Lockhart and Carolyn Smith; nephew, Paul Gregory.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.

Music will be provided by Heavenly Way Trio.

Military entombment services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Blountville, with the American Legion Post #3 and Gate City Post #265 with Joe W. Byrd, chaplain in charge.

Family and friends wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:55 a.m.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Donald L. Herndon, 69, Jacksonville Beach, Fla.
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - Donald L. Herndon, 69, passed away Thursday ( March 10, 2005).

Don was born in Norton, Va., to Lloyd and Ida Herndon.

He was a member of the VFW Post 1689, American Legion Post 88 and Moose Lodge No. 455.

He attended the Hunnington Pentecostal Holiness Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Lloyd and Robert; and his daughter, Bobbie.

He is survived by his son, Donald Pinson; brother, Paul T. Herndon; sister, Peggy A. Fleenor; and family and dear friends.

At his request, he has chosen not to have a service.

Services for Mr. Roy O. Hill Jr., 83, Kingsport, who died Friday (March 25, 2005), will be conducted today at 11 a.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home with interment following.

Larry Wayne Jarrett, 50, Ft. Blackmore, Va.
FT. BLACKMORE, Va. - Larry Wayne Jarrett, 50, went to be with the Lord Sunday (March 27, 2005) at Holston Valley Medical Center following an illness.

A son of Lester and Edith Bishop Jarrett, he was born in Scott County, Va. Mr. Jarrett was a construction worker and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of eight years, Loretta Walton Jarrett, of the home; daughters, Becky Jarrett, Kingsport, Norma Jean Jarrett, of the home, and Natosha Walton, Ft. Blackmore, Va.; son, Travis Jarrett, Tiptonsville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Tabitha, Destiny and Sierra Jarrett; sisters, Linda Knight and husband Ralph, Kingsport, Debbie Delph and husband John, Blountville, Marcella Ball and husband Ted, Brenda Jarrett, Teresa Jarrett, Leslie Jarrett and Cristy Robbinson and husband Matthew, all of Kingsport; brothers, Danny Jarrett and wife Angie, Blountville, Mike Jarrett and wife Mary, who was a special sister-in-law and caregiver, Bobby Jarrett and wife Teresa, all of Kingsport, Rick Jarrett, Chattanooga, and Tosh Jarrett, Kingsport; also several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, Va.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gene Stallard and the Rev. Adam Knight officiating.

Maynard Jessee, 85, Lebanon, Va.
LEBANON, Va. - Maynard Morris Jessee, 85, went to be with the Lord Sunday (March 27, 2005) at his home with his wife of 63 years by his side.

He was born Sept. 23, 1919, in Russell County, a son of the late Joseph Porter Jessee and the late Willie Baker Jessee.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Jones; two sisters, Louise Jessee and Anna Lee Jessee; two brothers, Denver Jessee and Robert Jessee.

Survivors include his wife, Lena Jessee; one daughter, Brenda Ross and husband, Ted, Dungannon, Va.; one son, Roger Jessee and friend, Deborah Taylor, Lebanon; son-in-law, Ray Jones, Warrensville, N.C.; foster son, Randolph (Mike) Sexton and wife, Pam, Council Bluffs, Iowa; sister, Kathryn Chafin and husband, Joe, Kingsport; grandchildren, Donna Powers and husband, Forrest, Tim Jessee and wife, Brenda, Diane Hall and husband, Tracy, Tiffany Young and husband, Joe, Lynsey Jessee and Chad Jones; great-grandchildren, Kelli Powers, Brandon Powers, Justin Jessee and Jordan Young; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Combs Funeral Service, Lebanon, Va.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. David Denton and the Rev. Bill Reynolds officiating.

Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Russell Memorial Cemetery. Those attending are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chad Jones, Tim Jessee, Justin Jessee, Brandon Powers, Jerry Tredway and James Wise Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Dwight Bailey, Zachary Salyer, George Jessee and the men of Memorial Chapel Church.

Minnie D. Moorehouse, 64, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Minnie Davis Moorehouse, 64, of 606 Minton Street, passed away Friday evening (March 25, 2005) at her home following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Sevierville, and had resided in Kingsport most of her life.

Mrs. Moorehouse was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents and three brothers, Bill, Frank and Jessie Denison.

Surviving are her husband, Thomas Moorehouse; one daughter, Pat Vick, Camden, Tenn.; two grandsons, Logan and Caleb Vick; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Annie Honeycutt.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, or any time at the home.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Douglas Tweed officiating.

Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends.

Velma Powers, 76, Wise, Va.
WISE, Va. - Velma Nina Meade Powers, 76 years and four months, passed away at the Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, Va., at 8 p.m. on Sunday (March 27, 2005).

She was a retired teacher's aide for Wise County School System and the City of Norton, Va., and member of the First Church of God in Wise, Va. She loved her church family, her flowers, and her arts and crafts.

She was born Nov. 27, 1928 and passed away March 27, 2005. The Lord allowed her to see another Easter Sunrise before calling her home. She had battled pancreatic and liver cancer since June 2004.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stafford and Etta Bauguess Meade of Pound, Va.; and a daughter, Nina Delynn Powers Watts, who passed away in 1983 at the age of 27.

Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Clifford Ray Powers; two daughters, Devona Faye Blevins and husband Jerry W. of Richlands, Va., and Marla Rae Glass and husband Ralph of Marion, Va.; one grandson, Adam David Watts, age 25, of Wise, Va.; one brother, Cleatis G. Meade and wife Renee of Kingsport; one sister, Joan Morris and husband Arnold of Knoxville; five step grandchildren, Cristina Martin and husband Pat of Clarksville, Tenn., Jerry Blevins II and wife Tina of Beckley, W.Va., Crystal Ferguson of Marion, Va., Erin Shaft and husband Dustin of Irvin, Tex., Wendy Glass and Shannon Pennington, both of Marion, Va.; 12 great-grandchildren, Kevin, Sherry and Brittany Martin, Cody and Justin Blevins, Lyndsey, Emily and Sydney Ferguson, Preston and Nathan Shaft, Aiden and Ezrah Pennington; three nieces and one nephew.

Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the First Church of God in Wise, Va.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with Pastor Ben Murphy officiating.

Burial will be in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap, Va.

Sturgill Funeral Homes in Wise, Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Harold Edward Rule, 75, Knoxville.
KNOXVILLE - Harold Edward Rule, 75, formerly of Kingsport, died on Sunday (March 27, 2005) after a long illness.

He was a chemical engineering graduate of the University of Louisville, J.B. Speed School of Engineering and was a member of Tau Beta Pi engineering society. He retired from Eastman Kodak in Kingsport after 33 years of service.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Kingsport where he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir.

He was preceded in death by his parents, V.L. (Jack) and Syble DeLozier Rule.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia Brown Rule; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Valerie Rule, Houston, Tex.; daughter and son-in-law Pat Rule and Bill Barkley, Knoxville; sister and husband, Christine and Paul Koenen; sister-in-law and husband, Dorothy and Russell Jonson; step-grandson Brent Barkley and step-granddaughter Amanda Ryan.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the parlor at Church Street United Methodist Church.

Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory in Asheville, N.C. The Reverend Charles A. Jonson, nephew, of Dallas, Tex., will officiate the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the music program at First Baptist Church Kingsport, Alzheimer's Association or to the Kay Center Scholarship fund at Church Street United Methodist Church.

East Tennessee Mortuary Services is in charge.

Howard V. Sturgill, 68, Kingsport.
Military graveside services for Howard V. Sturgill, 68, of Kingsport, who went to be with the Lord on Sunday (March 27, 2005), will be at 11 a.m. today at the East Stone Gap Cemetery, Big Stone Gap, Va., conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265 with Rev. Joe. W. Byrd, Chaplain officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:55 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Mike Arnold, Roy Williams, Kenneth McMahan, Carl Ray Sturgill Jr., Randy Sturgill, Bobby Sturgill, Stephen Sturgill and Rustey Ferrell.
