BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Gurney Gene Lambert, 74, passed away Thursday (Oct. 20, 2005) at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap, Va.
He lived most of his life in Big Stone Gap and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard L. and Anna J. (Boggs) Lambert; two sisters, Oma Trent and Nyokha Trent; and two brothers, Bob and Junis Lambert.
Surviving are one sister, Leona Lambert of Waukegan, Ill.; three brothers, Glen Lambert, Dunbar, Va., Harvey Lambert of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Hillis Lambert Lake Forest, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap, Va.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ronald L. Childress officiating.
Committal services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at American Legion Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery.
Mary Akers Lane, 89, Clinchport, Va.
CLINCHPORT, Va. - Mary Lane, 89, entered into rest Oct. 20, 2005 at The Wexford House.
Born in Scott County, Va. on Jan. 20, 1916 to the late Charlie and Pearlie Hammonds Akers. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clint Lane; two sons, J.C. and Paul Lane; sisters, Lula Herron and Janie Davidson; brothers, Carl, John, Gladis, Howard, Ray, Willie and Otis Akers.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ella Mae and James McDavid, Kingsport; sons and daughters-in-law, Kyle and Valarie Lane, Hubert and Billie Lane, both of Clinchport, Va.; one sister, Mamie Jennings of Yuma, Va.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Gene Falin Memorial chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Kenny Hammonds and Rev. Jerry Hickman officiating.
Music will be provided by Mabe Quartet.
Burial will follow the service in Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

KINGSPORT - Claude Lockhart, 78, went to be with the Lord on Friday (Oct. 21, 2005) after fighting a long battle with cancer.

KINGSPORT - Vince W. Puckett, 69, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 19, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Puckett attended Higher Ground Baptist Church, and was a member of Oak Drive Independent Church. He retired from CSX Railroad after 42 years of service, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a loving brother, uncle and friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Reathie Puckett; one sister, Pauline Edmonds; four brothers, Carter Meade, Lester, Leroy and George Puckett.
He is survived by three brothers, Bobby Puckett and wife, Janie of Kingsport, Lincoln Puckett and wife, Ruth of St. Paul, Va., and Eugene Puckett and wife, Thelma of Kountz, Tex.; several nieces and nephews; and several great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Oak Hill Funeral Home on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ray Garland officiating.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Luther Walton; an infant son, Ronnie Walton; two brothers, Ralph Pugh and Charlie Pugh; her mother, Annie Steele; and father, Arthur Pugh.
Surviving are one daughter, Barbara Bishop and husband, Leroy, Church Hill; one son, Connie Walton and wife, Patricia, Church Hill; one grandson, David Bishop; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Alverson, Huntsville, Ala., and Helen Troxell, Chilhowie, Va.; two brothers, Russell Joe Pugh and Frank Pugh, both of Troutdale, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT - Leonard J. Carter, Jr., 58, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Thursday (Oct. 27, 2005) at his home.
Leonard was a friend to everyone. He was the best father and grandfather anyone could ever ask for. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Leonard retired from The Body Shop where he was employed for 20 years.
He was a faithful member of Springdale Baptist Church.
His parents, Leonard Carter, Sr. and Maudie Carter; one sister, Margaret Carter Lane; and an aunt, Zella Polk preceded him in death.
His loving survivors include two daughters, Michelle Carter of Kingsport and Crystal Carter-Gaskey of Church Hill; one grandson, Jonathan Carter; two granddaughters, Ashley Carter and Kaci Gaskey; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Ramona Carter, Charles and Linda Carter, all of Kingsport; one aunt and uncle, Eugene and Patsy Jeter of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Jean Pierce Davis of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Kingsport, passed away Thursday (Oct. 27, 2005) at Morton Plant Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in Virginia and had resided in Clearwater, Fla., for the past 30 years. Mrs. Davis was the former owner and operator of Jean's Beauty Salon in Colonial Heights.
Mrs. Davis was a member of Skycrest United Methodist Church in Clearwater and a 50-year member of the Eastern Star Dunedin Chapter #132.
Her parents, Sexton Pierce and Ester Hall Pierce and brother, Robert Pierce preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband, William F. Davis, Clearwater, Fla.; goddaughter, Jeannie Crawley, Alabaster, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.
