Lissie Jean Hartgrove, 65, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Lissie Jean (Frazier) Hartgrove, 65, of Rt. 3, the Yuma community, went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning at the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born June 12, 1940 in Hawkins County, she was a daughter of the late William McKinley and Etta Arnold Frazier. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was a friend to many.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, J.W. Frazier and Kenneth Frazier.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Hagan Hartgrove of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anita McClain and husband Rick of Kingsport, Michelle McDavid and husband Randy of Gate City (Yuma); one son, Tim Hartgrove of Gate City (Yuma); three grandchildren, Beth Snapp, Tanner McDavid and Luke Hartgrove; one brother and sister-in-law, Dennis Frazier and wife Florence of Kingsport; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends are left to mourn her passing.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., and other times at the family residence, Rt. 3, Gate City (Yuma).
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Paul Blessing and Brother Steven Templeton officiating.
Music will be provided by The Potters and Wayne Bledsoe.
Interment will follow in Holston View cemetery and nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.

BLOUNTVILLE - Sue Berry Lacy, 96, passed away Saturday (Oct. 22, 2005) at Wellmont Hospice after a brief illness.
Sue lived her entire life in Sullivan County where she provided education, inspiration, friendship, and beneficence to all who knew her. She graduated from Holston High School and received bachelor's and master's degrees from East Tennessee State College and later taught at Holston High School where her husband, Tom Lacy, was principal. She served a tenure of over 30 years as librarian and English and Latin teacher at Sullivan, Blountville, and Holston High Schools.
Mrs. Lacy was the oldest living member of Wheeler United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and served as librarian. She contributed in countless other capacities.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Lacy; parents, Murry and Addie Berry, sisters, Una Poe, Stacey Wolfe, and Georgia Denton; brother, Bill Berry; and nephew, Richard Poe.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Ann Johnson Rose and Randy Rose; granddaughter and her husband, Stephanie and Scott Cunningham; grandson and his wife, Brandon and Tina Johnson; great-granddaughters, Lacy Cunningham and Lynnzie Johnson; brother, Sam Berry; nieces, Virginia Wolfe, Margaret Helvey, Linda Ramsey, Patricia Dykes, and Mitzi Odom; and nephews, Don Poe and Jim Denton.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.

COEBURN, Va. - Cecil D. Lawson, 73, passed away Saturday (Oct. 22, 2005) at the Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a charter member and deacon of the Community Freewill Baptist Church, a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army, a member of the Virginia Crossties Bluegrass Band, a 30-year member and past Master of the Coeburn Masonic Lodge #97, a member of the Coeburn Royal Arch Chapter #79, Cyrene Commandery #21 and Jericho Shrine.
He was a retired Auto Mechanics instructor from the Wise County Vocational Technical School with 17 years of service, and was a former employee of Witt Motor Co. for 17 years.
Surviving are his loving wife of 52 years, Jean Grey Belcher Lawson; a son, Rickey Lawson of Coeburn; a daughter, Penny Perry and husband Pastor Wayne of Coeburn; two grandchildren, Joni Beth Perry and Joseph Daniel Perry; a brother, Henry "Junior" Lawson of St. Paul, Va.; three sisters, Rose Hubbard of Pound, Va., Shirley Goff of St. Paul, Va., and Inez Holbrook of Coeburn; and five special friends, Millard Edwards, Josh Jessee, Mark Baker, Al Domingue and Robert Edwards of the Crossties Bluegrass Band.

He was born in Scott County, Va., on April 21, 1921 to the late Isaac T. Qualls and Leola Jennings Qualls.
Survivors are cousins, Claude Qualls of Clinchport, and Ralph Qualls of Clinchport; and several other cousins.

Johnny Sabo, Castlewood, Va.
CASTLEWOOD, Va. - Johnny Sabo, a native of Castlewood, Va., passed away after a lengthy illness on Saturday (Oct. 22, 2005) in Knoxville, where he resided with his nephew and family for several years.
He was born in Dante, Va., son of the late Steve and Estella Moria Sabo. He was a graduate of the University of Virginia at Charlottesville and Wise, Va. He taught school in Floyd County and Russell County and was a guidance counselor at Castlewood High School. He was instrumental in helping students find colleges and scholarships. John was very active in clubs and student field trips. He loved the theatre and drama and presented many school plays with his students.
John was a private first class in the U.S. Air Force.The family owned and operated Sabo's Grocery on Old Highway 58, for over 50 years. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, St. Paul, Va.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Steve, Alex, Joe and Bill Sabo; two sisters, Margaret and Bertha Sabo.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Va.

KINGSPORT - Jimmy Wayne Smith, 68, of Kingsport, passed away on Sunday (Oct. 23, 2005) at the Wexford House due to complications from a stroke.
Mr. Smith was a graduate of Coeburn High School and attended both Purdue University and E.T.S.U. He was a retired multi-line insurance adjuster.
Jimmy was an active member of Heritage First Church of God and enjoyed participating in the Men's Brotherhood Prayer Breakfast.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Daphne Vanover Smith; one sister, Mona Smith; one brother, Billy Smith; and his beloved poodle, Eli.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Rosemary T. Smith, of the home; two daughters, Tramera K. Duke and husband, Mike, and Michelle J. Gibson and husband, Sam, all of Kingsport; one brother, R.B. Smith and wife, Loretta, of Carrollton, Ga.; two grandsons; one grand-dog; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Smith's wishes were to be cremated.
