May Hill Anderson, 81, Houston, Tex.
HOUSTON, Tex. - May Hill Overton Anderson, 81, died on Friday (Oct. 14, 2005) at the home of her daughter in Houston, Tex., with her husband and all five daughters at her side, including Paula Anderson Nickels of Kingsport.
A resident of Houston for the past 10 years, Mrs. Anderson was born and lived most of her life in Memphis, Tenn. She was a graduate of Hutchison School in Memphis and Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., where she recently attended the graduation of her grandson, John Mark Nickels of Kingsport.
She was a daughter of the late mayor Watkins Overton of Memphis and great-great-great-granddaughter of John Overton, the law partner and best friend of Andrew Jackson. Together Jackson and Overton founded the city of Memphis. Mrs. Anderson devoted her life to her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Paul Clair Anderson; and her five daughters, Mayhill Anderson Fowler of Oakland, Calif., Paula Anderson Nickels of Kingsport, Karen Overton Anderson of Houston, Tex., Julia Anderson Cook of Houston, Tex., and Nancy Watkins Anderson of Seattle, Wash. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Mayhill Courtney Fowler of Princeton, N.J., Caroline Overton Fowler, of Berlin, Germany, John Mark Nickels, of Chicago, Ill., Nadia Matile Watkins Anderson, of Seattle, Wash., and Claire Lyn Cook, Karen Elizabeth Cook, and Mary Kristine Anderson of Houston.
Mr. and Mrs. Anderson were members of Bellaire Presbyterian Church in Bellaire, Texas.
Mrs. Anderson was buried on Tuesday, Oct. 18, in a family plot at Forest Hill cemetery in Memphis after a graveside service under the direction of Memphis Funeral Home Poplar.

Services for John Barbour, 98, of Mount Carmel, who went home to be with the Lord Friday (Oct. 21, 2005), will be conducted today at 7 p.m. in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Adams and the Rev. Neal Drinnon officiating.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and anytime at the residence.
Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens.

Pitts Miller Carmack Jr., 84, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Pitts Miller (P.M.) Carmack Jr., 84, passed away Friday evening at Rogersville Care and Rehab Center after a long period of declining health.
He was retired from the city of Oak Ridge as a city engineer and inspector. He was a 50+ year member of the Scottish Rite and Eastern Star Masonic Lodge #486 in Whitesburg and Knoxville Shriners.
Before his health problems, P.M. attended Big Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Carmack was preceded in death by his parents, Pitts Miller Carmack and Bessie Carmack; wife, Helen Carmack; three half brothers, Lynn, Eldridge and Ed Carmack; a half sister, Maude Shipley; and stepdaughter, Virginia Carmack Davis.
Survivors include his devoted stepdaughter and son-in-law, Linda and Tecky Hicks; stepson, Edward H. Carmack and wife Barbara, all of Stanley Valley; seven grandchildren, Stacy Jones and husband Chris, Amanda Hicks Alvis and husband Daniel, and Jeff Carmack and wife Lorie, all of Rogersville, Jill Price and husband Scott of Church Hill, Rick Davis and wife Pam, Kim Gibson and husband Danny of Maryville, Tim Davis and wife Karen of Nashville; 11 great-great-grandchildren, Justin Hicks, Cris Jones, Nick Jones, Hunter Price, Callie Price, Abby Carmack, Emma Carmack, Grant Davis, Jennifer Davis, Danielle Gibson and Aaron Davis. Special cousins are Don and Peggy Bewley of St. Clair and Glenn and Margarette Long of Rogersville.

MOUNT CARMEL - Beatrice Nell Jones Click, 90, of Mount Carmel, passed from this life on Friday (Oct. 21, 2005).
She was born and spent her entire life in Hawkins County. Mrs. Click retired from the tailor shop at Sobels after 19 years where she made many treasured friends.
Mrs. Click was a member of Mt. Mitchell Primitive Baptist Church in Mount Carmel where she remained active until the decline of her health.
Preceding her in death were her husband of more than 55 years, Orban W. Click; a daughter, Faye Click Lawson; a daughter-in-law, Eula Click; her parents; three sisters; and one brother.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty Click Huffman and husband Kyle, Kingsport, and Patricia "Patsy" Lynn Huffman, Church Hill; two sons, W. Clyde Click and Robert "Bob" E. Click and wife Linda, all of Mount Carmel; son-in-law, Harold Lawson, Church Hill; three grandsons, Tony Click, Bill Huffman, and Randy Huffman; five granddaughters, Sharon Price, Lisa Wilcox, Debbie Collier, Pam Pearson, and Angie Click; three great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; three great-great-grandchildren; half brother, Glenn Jones, Church Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

JONESVILLE, Va. - Mae Collins, 81, Rt. #3 on Route 70, passed away Friday (Oct. 21, 2005) in Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was a longtime resident of Lee County, being a homemaker and farmer. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mollie Thompson Lester; one daughter, Monnie Collins; two sons, an infant Randy Collins, and Roy Oscar Collins; one sister, Lola Cantor; one brother, James Lester.

Elsie Frost Dean, 78, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Elsie Beatrice Castle Frost Dean, 78, was carried home by the angels to be with the Lord, on Friday morning (Oct. 21, 2005) after an extended battle with cancer.
Mrs. Dean was born on Chestnut Ridge above Kyles Ford in Hancock County on March 15, 1927. She was a lifelong member of the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Hancock County and had faithfully attended Pleasant View Baptist Church in Kingsport for over 45 years.
Throughout the years, Ms. Dean had worked at the Eastman Kodak Company and J.P. Stevens Textiles before retiring from Holston Valley Community Hospital. Ms. Dean was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #198.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Stella Burchette Castle and William "Harmon" Castle; both her husbands, Odell Clay Frost and William Craft "Bill" Dean; her brother, James R. "Jim" Castle; and two stepsons, Donald Dean and Jimmy Dean.
Surviving are her children, Gilda Fields and her husband Donald, Alanna Ferrell and Bruce Vincent, Shawn Frost and his wife Tina, Scarlot Frost and Keith Cox; and stepdaughter, Patty Waddell of Lyle, Tenn. Elsie had 13 grandchildren, Wesley Fields, Jessica Fields, Kevin Ferrell, Chad Ferrell and wife Holly, Laura Tremblay and husband Gary, Brandon Manuel, Terrence Manuel, Edward Waddell and wife Gayle, Larry Dean, Brenda Jones, Dennis Dean, Deandra Dean and Dawn Dean. There were nine great-grandchildren, Caleb Ferrell, Ariana Carter, Tristan Tremblay, Cannon Ferrell, Brandi Austin, Candi Garner, Billy Dean, Kimberly Jones and Jimmy Jones; also seven great-great-grandchildren, Dakota Austin, Elizabeth Austin, Madison Garner, Whitney Garner, Austin Garner, Cymri Higet and Briar Higet; her sister, Nina Stapleton of Dandridge; her aunt, Thelma Fields of Bean Station; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Services will follow at 7 p.m. at the church with her friend and pastor, Rev. Wayne Baker, officiating.

Ms. Dean will be laid to rest at 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning at the Chestnut Grove Church cemetery in Hancock County after a brief graveside ceremony presided over by Pastor Baker. Family and friends going in procession are asked to meet at the Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill, at 9:30 a.m.
Mrs. Dean's family wished to extend a very special thank you to Sara Wolfe, her daytime caregiver, and to the Wellmont Bristol Hospice staff for their loving care of their mom in her final days.

JONESBOROUGH - Gene Anthony Ellis, 39, 267 Bayless Rd., Jonesborough, died Friday (Oct. 21, 2005) at Johnson City Medical Center from injuries received in an automobile accident.
A native of Jonesborough, he was the son of the late George Bruce Ellis and Helen Oliver Ellis of the home. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Edna Ellis Lewis.
He was a loving father, son, and brother.
He was employed by TPI Corp. in Gray. He had also achieved the rank of black belt and was an assistant instructor at Jonesborough TaeKwonDo.
Survivors include, in addition to his mother, one son, Mark Anthony Ellis, Kingsport; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Glenn Ellis, of the home, Roger and Carolyn Ellis, Gregory "Allen" and Sonja Ellis, and Gordon and Sherry Ellis, all of Jonesborough, Gerald and Pam Ellis, and Bruce and Brenda Ellis, all of Johnson City; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis Hughes, Georgia and Gary Davis, all of Jonesborough, and Gail and LeRoy Maupin of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT - Helen Louise Evans, 61, Kingsport, reached the end of this journey on Saturday (Oct. 22, 2005) and went home to be with Jesus.
She was the very best mother, sister, nanny, and friend one could have and she will be missed tremendously.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Wiley and Elizabeth Greer; grandson, Cory King; great-grandson, Bradley Dykes; aunt, Maggie Blakley Greer; and nephew, Stephen Bledsoe.

FALL BRANCH - Harry R. Hillman, 70, a devoted husband, dad, papper, brother and friend went to be with the Lord on Thursday (Oct. 20, 2005).
He was born March 13, 1935 in Nickelsville, Va., to the late Ezra E. Hillman and Lois Wampler Hillman. Mr. Hillman retired from the USAF National Guard after more than 30 years of service.
He worked for Tennessee Eastman Company, retiring in 1995 with more than 39 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Earnest Hillman; great-grandson, Ethan Robert Lay.
