Sue Berry Lacy, 96, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Sue Berry Lacy, 96, passed away Saturday (Oct. 22, 2005) at Wellmont Hospice after a brief illness.

Sue lived her entire life in Sullivan County where she provided education, inspiration, friendship, and beneficence to all who knew her. She graduated from Holston High School and received bachelor's and master's degrees from East Tennessee State College and later taught at Holston High School where her husband, Tom Lacy, was principal. She served a tenure of over 30 years as librarian and English and Latin teacher at Sullivan, Blountville, and Holston High Schools.

Mrs. Lacy was the oldest living member of Wheeler United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and served as librarian. She contributed in countless other capacities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Lacy; parents, Murry and Addie Berry, sisters, Una Poe, Stacey Wolfe, and Georgia Denton; brother, Bill Berry; and nephew, Richard Poe.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Ann Johnson Rose and Randy Rose; granddaughter and her husband, Stephanie and Scott Cunningham; grandson and his wife, Brandon and Tina Johnson; great-granddaughters, Lacy Cunningham and Lynnzie Johnson; brother, Sam Berry; nieces, Virginia Wolfe, Margaret Helvey, Linda Ramsey, Patricia Dykes, and Mitzi Odom; and nephews, Don Poe and Jim Denton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wheeler United Methodist Church.

Services will follow at 8 p.m. today at the church with Rev. Stuart Albee and Mike Lacy officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Johnson, Bill Lyon, Jim Hawk, Toby Lett, Jim Denton, and Skip Anderson.

Honorary pallbearers will be J.C. Akard, Howard Lee Sanders, Powell Hawk, Don Poe, and Charles Akard.

Memorials may be made to Wheeler United Methodist Church, 211 North Sanders Street, Blountville, TN 37617 or to Wheeler cemetery Fund, c/o Charles E. Akard, 477 Holston Drive, Blountville, TN 37617.

The family extends their deep gratitude to Linda Whiteman, special home caregiver and friend; Dr. David Morin and Dr. John Fred Williams; Bristol Wellmont Hospital staff on the stroke wing, especially Debbie, Denise, and Angela; and the staff of Bristol Wellmont Hospice.

Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, is serving the family of Sue Berry Lacy.

Mary Akers Lane, 89, Clinchport, Va.
Services for Mary Lane, 89, Clinchport, Va., who entered into rest Thursday (Oct. 20, 2005), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the Gate City Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Hammonds and Rev. Jerry Hickman officiating.

Music will be provided by Mabe Quartet.

Burial will follow the service in Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Claude Lockhart, 78, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Claude Lockhart, 78, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Friday (Oct. 21, 2005) after fighting a long battle with cancer.

Born in Kingsport, where he had resided most of his life, he retired from First American Bank. Mr. Lockhart was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. He was a member of the VFW.

Mr. Lockhart was a member of Summerville Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Jane Lockhart; and two brothers, Paul Lockhart and Carl Lockhart.

Surviving are one daughter, Debbie Noe and husband, Bill of Kingsport; one son, Mark Lockhart and wife, Kathy of Hudson, N.C.; three grandsons, Dustin Nelson, Jacob Lockhart, and Benji Lockhart; two brothers, Gene Lockhart, Bristol, Tenn., and Bill Lockhart, Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the people of Meals on Wheels, his doctor, Dr. A. Shipstone, and to the nurses and staff who took care of him.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, or any time at the home.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Jerry Hall officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at East Lawn Memorial Park with military rites held by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW.

Vince W. Puckett, 69, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Services for Vince W. Puckett, 69, who passed away Wednesday (Oct. 19, 2005), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the Oak Hill Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Garland officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Graveside services will immediately follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Puckett, Jon Puckett, David Puckett, Jeff Puckett, Terry Puckett and Wayne Puckett.

The staff of Oak Hill Funeral Home is honored to serve the Puckett family.

Mitchell Jessie Qualls, 84, Duffield, Va.
DUFFIELD, Va. - Mitchell Qualls, 84, entered into rest Saturday (Oct. 22, 2005) at Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by the Gate City Funeral Home.

Virginia Sue Rogers, 78, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Virginia Sue Rogers, 78, of Kingsport, died on Saturday (Oct. 22, 2005) at Hillside Manor Nursing Home.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Oak Hill Memorial Park, Funerals, and Cremations.

The staff of Oak Hill is honored to serve the family of Ms. Virginia Rogers.

Johnny Sabo, Castlewood, Va.
CASTLEWOOD, Va. - Johnny Sabo died Saturday (Oct. 22, 2005) in Knoxville.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Helen Sergent, 96, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Helen Sergent, 96, Gate City, entered into rest Saturday (Oct. 22, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Anthony K. Shaffer, 26, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Anthony Keith Shaffer, 26, went to sleep in the arms of Jesus Saturday (Oct. 22, 2005) in Holston Valley Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Arrangements are incomplete.

Gary Dale Slemp, 58, Wise, Va.
WISE, Va. - Gary Dale Slemp, 58, passed away Friday (Oct. 21, 2005) at his home.

He was of the Baptist faith and was the owner and operator of GDS Productions.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Makin Slemp; a son, William Samuel Slemp of Norton, Va.; two daughters, Molly Dale Slemp of Norton, Va., and Allison Slemp Bartlett and husband Billy of Wise; a stepgrandson, Chad Bartlett; and a half brother, Scott Slemp of Johnson City.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 29, 2005) at the Wise Baptist Church.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with Pastor Ray Jones Jr. officiating.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Appalachian Children's Theater, P.O. Box 2988, Wise, VA 24293.

Peggy Ann Smith, 51, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Peggy Ann Harkleroad Smith, 51, of Kingsport, died on Saturday (Oct. 22, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Stella Walton, 83, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Services for Stella "Catherine" Walton, 83, of Kingsport, who went to be with the Lord Friday (Oct. 21, 2005), will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, with Rev. Wilburn Wyatt and Rev. G.W. Jobe officiating.

Burial will follow at Liberty Hill cemetery in Mount Carmel.

The family will receive friends today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Randy Adams, 38, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Charles "Randy" Adams, 38, of 742 Myrtle St., passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning (Oct. 29, 2005) at home.

Born in Kingsport, he had resided here all his life. He was of the Baptist faith.

Randy was a loving father, son, brother and friend to many and always had a smile on his face.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Adams; maternal grandparents, Hubert and Bessie Murray; and paternal grandmother, Margaret Hall.

Surviving are his wife, Kim Adams; two daughters, Shyanna Adams and Linnea Adams; one son, Carlos Adams; mother, Jacquline Adams; one sister, Penny Meade and husband Michael; one brother, Billy Adams; two special nieces, Caitlin Fields and Alley Cat Fields, all of Kingsport; special aunt and uncle, Jan and Bob Roberts, Kingsport; several aunts and uncles; and a special cousin, Carol Roller, Kingsport.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Hal Calhoun officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Dayton Blair, 70, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Dayton Blair, 70, died Monday (Oct. 31, 2005) at Sunbridge Hillside Nursing Home.

Rufus Wilder Calton, 74, Duffield, Va.
DUFFIELD, Va. - Services for Rufus Wilder Calton, 74, of Duffield, who died Sunday (Oct. 30, 2005), will be conducted at 1 p.m. today in the chapel of The Duffield Funeral Home at Thomas Village with Bro. Lonnie Townsend officiating.

The Mabe Quartet will provide the music.

Calling hours are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Committal services will follow in the Miller cemetery in Wise.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Betty Ruth Carpenter, 70, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Betty Ruth Carpenter, 70, went to be with the Lord on Monday (Oct. 31, 2005) at Wellmont Hospice House of Bristol after a brief illness.

Mrs. Carpenter was born in Kingsport and had resided here all her life. She worked for 15 years at Roberts and Johnson, then retired from Holston Builders in 1997 after 27 years of service.

Betty attended Midfield Freewill Baptist Church. She was a loving wife and compassionate person who will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She loved camping, walking, yard sales, and going to the beach.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Sallie Davis Head.

Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Robert L. Carpenter of the home; one sister, Lucille Dingus of Kingsport; one brother, Franklin Head of Kingsport; one niece, Linda Dingus of Kingsport; and one nephew, Ronald Dingus and wife Rhonda of Kingsport.

The family will receive friends at Oak Hill Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Billy Gragg officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted in Oak Hill Memorial Park at 11 a.m. Thursday. Friends and family wishing to attend graveside services are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Guy Johnson, Ralph Carter, John Carpenter, James Carpenter, Tom Kerns, Carl Riley, Harley Ball and Frank Carr.

The staff of Oak Hill Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Betty Carpenter.

Richard A. Clark, 46, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Richard A. Clark, 46, a lifelong resident of Kingsport, passed away Thursday (Oct. 27, 2005) at his home.

His parents, Jessie and Pauline Clark preceded him in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Clark and Nicole Clark, both of Church Hill; and two brothers, Guy Clark, of Lake Worth, Fla., and Donnie Clark, of Kingsport.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Major Jim Lawrence officiating.

Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Guy Clark, Donnie Clark, Willie Clark, Mark Laney, Tommy Laney, and Billy Smith.
