Graveside services for Nannie R. Gardner, 100, of 102 Parkview St., Church Hill, who passed away Thursday (Nov. 3, 2005), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Morning Star Cemetery.

Dorothy Louise Garland, 97, Limestone.
LIMESTONE - Dorothy Louise May Garland, 97, a resident of Limestone, went to be with the Lord on Saturday (Nov. 5, 2005) at NHC in Johnson City.
Born Aug. 18, 1905, in the Mayberry community, she was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Tenn. She was a daughter of the late Mary Etta and Samuel J. May.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Calvin N. Garland; three sisters, Nola Craigmiles, Roxanna Scott, and Ada Bailey; three brothers, Mark May, Blaine May, and William May; and a son-in-law, S.V. Wright Jr.
Survivors include three daughters, Jane Wright of Telford, Ann Banks and husband, Don, of Kingsport, and Carolyn McCracken and husband, Larry, of Gray; seven grandchildren, Greg Wright, Bebe Street, and Martha Burleson of Telford, Beth Tench of Philadelphia, Pa., Randy Orten of Kingsport, John McCracken of Knoxville, and Malinda Sanders of Gray; and eight great-grandchildren.
Dorothy graduated from Washington College Academy in 1927 and East Tennessee State Teachers College in 1931, after which she was a teacher in the schools of Washington County for 43 years. After retirement from teaching, she became an active member of the Washington County Retired Teachers Association.
She was a member of Mt. Wesley United Methodist Church for 74 years, where she taught an adult women's Sunday School class for more than 50 years and sang in the choir.
Throughout her life, she was a political enthusiast, with close ties to the Washington County Republican Party. As an accomplished businesswoman, she was president and co-owner of Tri-City Linen and Uniform of Kingsport and managed Garland Farms. In addition, Dorothy was an avid gardener. Through her enjoyment of nature, she became a knowledgeable naturalist, with a special interest in botany. Poetry was also a lifelong enjoyment for her, with hundreds of poems committed to memory.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home, Jonesborough.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday from the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Mark Kilborne officiating.
Interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Wesley United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Greg Wright, Randy Orten, John McCracken, Marty Street, Mike Burleson, Dan Sanders, Ben Wright, Alex Street.

Edwin H. Johnson, 76, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Edwin H. Johnson, 76, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday (Nov. 5, 2005).
Mr. Johnson was born in Junction City, Ky., and later moved to Lexington, Ky., before moving to Kingsport. He had resided in the Kingsport area for over 50 years and was a member of Lynn Garden Baptist Church. He was a Korean War veteran, having served in the U.S. Army and later retiring from the National Guard as a mess sergeant.
He retired from Builders Supply following over 30 years of service. Mr. Johnson was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, B.A. and Minnie Horton Johnson; and one brother, Wayne Johnson.
Surviving are his wife, Alta Marie Johnson, of the home; one daughter, Teresa Davis and husband Dennis of Mount Carmel; one son, Michael Johnson and wife Ginger of Mountain City; three grandchildren, Erin Davis, Adam Johnson and Jennifer Johnson; one sister, Doris McGlothlin and husband E.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today at Oak Hill Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Carl Strickler officiating.
Military graveside services will be held in Oak Hill Memorial Park on Monday at 12 noon with members of Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265 of the American Legion conducting the military rites.

PENNINGTON GAP, Va. - Terry Lee Jones of the West Poor Valley community, Rt. 1, Pennington Gap, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Tuesday, June 1, 1954, and passed away Friday (Nov. 4, 2005) at the Johnson City Medical Center at the age of 51.
She was a homemaker, and had lived in Lee County, Va., for the past 24 years. She was of the Holiness faith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Marion Brittain; two sisters, Marion Brittain and Kathy McMullin.
Terry is survived by her husband, Herbert Jones of the home; one daughter, Kristie Tinsley of Pennington Gap, Va. She is also survived by one grandchild, Olivia Tinsley; and her mother, Viola Brittain of Blanchester, Ohio; and also, a sister, Ella Bolling of Blanchester; and a brother, Carl Brittain of Loveland, Ohio; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the sanctuary of the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Pennington Memorial cemetery on the Harlan Road community.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

CHUCKEY - Alda Elizabeth (Stapleton) Maddux, 94, of Chuckey, passed away on Saturday (Nov. 5, 2005) at Laughlin Memorial Hospital in Greeneville following a long illness.
Mrs. Maddux was born in Kingsport and had worked for Borden Mills for several years. She later moved to Johnson City where she worked as a housekeeper until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Stapleton and the late Sarah (Farmer) Stapleton.
She is survived by two daughters, Eveylena Stapleton, Johnson City, and Pat Harrack, Colorado; one son, Arlan Stapleton, Greeneville; granddaughter, Leigh Ann Ward; great-grandchildren, Kaylie and Tanner Ward; close friend, Fred Sise; several nieces and nephews.

MOUNT CARMEL - Thomas Elmo (Tom) Perdue, of 324 Holston Drive, Mount Carmel, died Saturday (Nov. 5, 2005) in the Church Hill Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Tom was born in Jonesville, Va., moving later to Roda, Va., and then to Bristol, Tenn., making his final move to Mount Carmel in 1957. He retired in 1985 after 41 years and four months of service from Tennessee Eastman where he worked in the Tenite Plastic Division.
Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed in Alaska during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Westridge Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ollie (Poteet); brothers, Broadus, Elmer, Erby and Roscoe; and sisters, Ada, Mae, Millie and Thelma.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Coralyn (Droke) Perdue of the home; his son, Michael Perdue of Church Hill; his sister, Golden Slaughter of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the East Lawn Funeral Home and other hours at his residence.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday in the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Jeff Morelock, CLP officiating.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the East Lawn Memorial Park in the garden of Apostle's.

Billy Ray Simmons, 77, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Billy Ray Simmons, 77, died early Thursday morning (Nov. 3, 2005) in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Born in Wise County, Va., he came to Kingsport in 1947 and was a graduate of East Tennessee State University. Mr. Simmons retired from Eastman Chemical Company in 1986 after 35 years of service.
Mr. Simmons was a member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church.
He was active in Boy Scout work for more than 50 years and made numerous excursions to Philmont and the Boy Scout Jamboree.
Bill was a devoted family man.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Bradley Simmons, Murfreesboro; three children and their spouses, Cris and Anna Simmons, Seattle, Wash., Lynne and Bill Branscom, Murfreesboro, Duane and Angela Simmons, Knoxville; four grandchildren, Brie Simmons and Cris Simmons Jr., Seattle, Wash., Sarah Branscom and Megan Branscom, Murfreesboro; one sister, Frances Powers, Mount Carmel; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, and anytime at the home of his sister, Frances Powers, 120 Oak St., Mount Carmel.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home with Dr. John Bardsley officiating.
