Clara Mae Jeffers, 85, Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY - Clara Mae Jeffers, 85, entered into rest Tuesday (Nov. 8, 2005) at Lakebridge Health Care Center, Johnson City, after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Jeffers was born in Scott County, Va., on Nov. 17, 1919, the daughter of the late Willie H. and Flora E. Smith Ramsey.
She attended the First Presbyterian Church of Johnson City.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Jeffers; sisters, Nettie Irene Garrett, Nora Ramsey, Mary Greer, Alva Ramsey and Ethel Casteel; and brothers, Howard, Warren, Russell, Robert (Bob), C.J. and Beechel Ramsey.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Gerald Malcolm, Johnson City; stepson, Lynn Jeffers, Johnson City; grandchildren, Jeff Malcolm and Amy Sentell, both of Johnson City; great-grandchildren, Jackson Malcolm, Cameron Malcolm, Ramsey Sentell and Zeb Sentell, all of Johnson City; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Gate City Funeral Home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with a eulogy given by her son-in-law, Gerald Malcolm.
Burial will follow the service at the Union Temple United Methodist Church Cemetery, Greeneville.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Richard H. Morrison, 50, Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY - Richard H. "Knucklehead" Morrison, 50, of 159 Morey Hyder Road, died Wednesday (Nov. 9, 2005) at his residence following an illness.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City, son of Hal and Dorothy Ruth McGuire Morrison. Richard was a former boilermaker and more recently a custom painter of motorcycles.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his fiancee, Carol Evans of the home; his parents, Hal and Dorothy Ruth Morrison of Greenville, N.C.; a brother, Mark Alan Morrison, Johnson City; a sister, Connie Lee McPherson of Bristol, Tenn.
The family will receive friends today at the Morris-Baker Funeral Home, Johnson City, from 6 to 8 p.m.
A graveside service is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. in the Monte Vista Memorial Park under the direction of Rev. Mike Pelham. The family and friends are asked to assemble at Monte Vista on Friday.

ROGERSVILLE - Services for Sherry Ann Murray, 49, who went to be with the Lord on Thursday (Nov. 3, 2005), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville, with the Rev. Randy Warner and the Rev. George Bradley Jr. officiating.
Interment will follow in Wesley's Chapel Cemetery.

Daniel B. Reece IV, 48, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Daniel B. Reece IV, 48, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., passed away Sunday (Oct. 30, 2005) in Charleston, S.C., following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Reece was born in Washington, D.C., then moved to Kingsport in 1969. He graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School and attended Carson-Newman College where he graduated in 1979. He then attended Vanderbilt University Law School where he graduated in 1983. At the time of his death, he was employed as an attorney for MeadWestvaco in Charleston, S.C.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel B. Reece III of 1538 Crescent Dr., Kingsport; two sisters, Lisa Jane Reece of Knoxville, and Kara Carr and husband Randy, also of Knoxville; and one nephew, Jackson Daniel Carr of Knoxville.
The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Kingsport on Church Circle on Sunday (Nov. 13, 2005) from 2 to 3 p.m.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the church at 3 p.m. with Dr. Marvin Cameron.
Music will be provided by Susan Hoover.
Interment will be at a later date in Oak Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum IV.

KINGSPORT - Samuel Dean Russell, precious infant son of Heather and Rick Russell, went to be with the Lord Sunday (Nov. 6, 2005) in the Johnson City Medical Center surrounded by his family.

COEBURN, Va. - Joseph (Joe Bill) Sherman Sluss, 76, passed away Monday (Nov. 7, 2005) in the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He attended the Bond Town Freewill Baptist Church, was owner of Joe's Taxi, and a former owner of Nifty Sealing Company and Sluss Auto Sales.
Surviving are his two sons, William (Billy) Edward Sluss of Kingsport and Joseph Sherman Sluss Jr., of Vandalia, Ohio; three brothers, Jack Sluss, Charlie Sluss, and Powell Sluss, all of Coeburn; five sisters, Bernice Wright, Polly Proulex, Sue Ella Luther, all of Coeburn, Annie Coe of Sandusky, Ohio, and Dixie Johnson of Baltimore, Md.; two grandsons, Justin Sluss of Kingsport and Nathan Sluss of Vandalia, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Coeburn, Va.

Leola Lee Yeary, 88, Norton, Va.
NORTON, Va. - Leola Lee Yeary, 88, passed away Sunday (Nov. 6, 2005) in Little Rock, Ark., after a long illness.
She was born May 23, 1917 to the late James Mack and Sarah Necessary Yeary.
She taught Government and History at Burton High School to many generations of Norton residents. Leola grew up in Norton, Va., and graduated from Norton High School. She went on to receive her bachelor's degree from Radford College and her master's degree from University of Kentucky. She taught in Appalachia and Kentucky before returning to Norton to continue her teaching career. Leola especially loved to read, paint and knit. She also loved to travel by bus, her goal to visit every state in the continental United States. Those who knew her will remember her enjoyment for life and a cold Coca-Cola. Leola was proud to teach school and hoped to make a difference with the children of Norton by "making them think" and encouraging them to express themselves artistically. She enjoyed being on the Regional Library Board and visited the library daily. A devout Catholic, she attended St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
Leola will be most remembered for her kindness, independence and love of learning. She will live on in the hearts of her adoring family and in the memories of her countless friends.
She is survived by her brothers, Carl Ralph Yeary, Little Rock, Ark., and Joseph Mack Yeary, Denver, Colo.; nieces, Becky, Karen, Melinda, Sandra, Sharon, and Susan; nephews, James and Jeffrey; sisters-in-law, Betty, Dolores and Lockie; as well as many great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, Va. A prayer service will be offered at 7 p.m.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Father Timothy Drake officiant.

Howard "Shug" Bowman, 83, Appalachia, Va.
APPALACHIA, Va. - Howard e. "Shug" Bowman, 83, passed away Saturday (Nov. 19, 2005) at Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap, Va.
He was a member of Appalachia United Methodist Curch and was a veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nola Bowman; brothers, Hyder Bowman and James Bowman; and sisters, Milda West and Pauline Kilbourne.
Surviving are his son, Rick E. Bowman of Appalachia, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Oscar ‘Buddy' Broome Jr., 69, Bristol, Va.
BRISTOL, Va. - Oscar Gray ‘Buddy' Broome, Jr., 69, graduated from this life on Tuesday (Nov. 22, 2005) at Wellmont Hospice House after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born in Kingsport on Wednesday, November 4, 1936 and was the son of the late Oscar Gray and Blanche Virginia Stitt Broome. He was a graduate of Bristol Tennessee High School, where he was a member of the football team. He received a master's degree from Goddard College in Plainfield, Vt. After serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, he was employed by Raytheon Company of Bristol and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He served 34 years with the Bristol Virginia Police Department, retiring as chief of police in 1993. He was a member of the Pompano Beach Florida Police Department for a short time in 1967.
He was a member of the Bristol Virginia School Board for over seven years, serving as chairman for five terms and vice-chairman for one term. He was an adjunct instructor at two Virginia Community Colleges, served as Director of the former Bristol Virginia Police Training School and had served as chairman of the Southwest Law Enforcement Academy. He was a past president of the Virginia State Crime Clinic and the Tri-State Crime Clinic. He was also a former Boy Scout Master and Explorer advisor and served on various public service boards and committees.
He was a member of Highlands Fellowship Church in Abingdon, Va.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mary Jane Gilmer Broome; daughter, Barbara Broome Cable and husband Bart of Chandler, Ari.; sons, Douglas Allan Broome and Michael Gray Broome and wife Dana, all of Bristol, Va.; sister, Joan Broome Zeller of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating the life of Mr. Broome will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Highlands Fellowship Church, 22417 Watauga Road in Abingdon, Va., with Pastor Jimmie Davidson, Dr. Harry W. Gilmer and Pastor Danny Montgomery officiating.
A reception and visitation will follow the service at the church. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home.
The committal service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Monday morning in Glenwood Cemetery. Police Rites will be presented at the graveside by the Bristol Virginia Police Department Honor Guard.

He was a retired trucker driver and was preceded in death by his parents, Grady S. and Maurine R. Eldridge.
Surviving are his wife, Vicki Eldridge of Rockville, Md.; one daughter, Samantha Lynn Eldridge of Rockville, Md.; one son, Dale Lynn Eldridge Jr., of Rockville, Md.

Pastor Joe W. Goad, 58, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Pastor Joe Willard Goad, Jr., 58, went to be with the Lord after an extended illness on Wednesday (Nov. 23, 2005) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was born in Kingsport and lived here most of his life. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping, but his life was his ministry. He was the pastor of the Central Assembly of God Church for over 28 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe R.B. Goad and Virginia Ruth Hammonds Goad.
Pastor Joe was survived by his wife of 39 years, Margaret Ruth Goad, of the home; his children, Rhonda Ruth Kistner, Scott Joe Goad and wife Amanda, Stephen Goad and wife Torrie, and Jessie Goad, all of Kingsport; six grandchildren, Brandon Salley, Samantha Kistner, Jackson Goad, Jarred Goad, Steh Goad, and Marganna Goad; two sisters, Frances Spivey of Georgia and Kathy Lemaster of Chattanooga; one brother, James Goad and wife Judy, Grover, N.C.; a special aunt, Lee Presley; a special nephew, David Waycaster and wife Lori; a great-niece, Megan Waycaster; as well as several other nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Central Assembly of God Church, 1801 McGhee St.
Services will be held at 12 noon Saturday at the church with Pastor Charles Bogle, Pastor Bob Yates and Pastor Carl Kelleher officiating.
