GRAY - Nellie Charlton, 86, of Jearoldstown, died Wednesday (Nov. 23, 2005) at Life Care Center of Gray.
Nellie was born in Jearoldstown and lived there all her life until 1999. She was a member of Union Temple Freewill Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and a farmer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnie Charlton; parents, J. Dee Myers and Lucy Davis Myers; one son-in-law, John D. Crabtree; four brothers, Willie B. (Buck) Myers, Charley Myers, Tom Myers, and Joe Myers; four sisters, Mary Jane Collins, Frances Light, Alice Myers, and Gertrude Myers.
She is survived by one son, William H. (Bill) Charlton and wife, Carol of 4714 Arbor Court, Decator, Ill., 62526; two daughters, Margaret Osborn and husband, John D. of 6672 S. 54th Street, Okeechobee, Fla., 34974 and Dorthiea Williams and husband, Powell of Kingsport; one brother, John H. Myers of Fall Branch; four grandsons, Brett Charlton of Eureka, Ill., Harold Osborn of Columbia, Mo., Robert Osborn and family of Las Vegas, Nev., and David Crabtree of Kingsport; four granddaughters, Becky Charlton of Quincy, Ill., Billie Sue Charlton of Florida, Brenda Swickie of Goodfield, Ill., Annette Hunt of Kingsport; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Wilma Myers of Eureka, Ill., Alta Myers of East Peoria, Ill.; and 16 nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Fall Branch Chapel.
Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the chapel with Rev. Oscar McAmis and Rev. Ronnie Baxter officiating.
Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill cemetery in Greene County.
Pallbearers will be friends of the church.

Lillie Cobble, 101, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Lillie Bell Herrington Cobble, 101, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday (Nov. 24, 2005).
She was born July 2, 1904 in Simpson County, Ky., to Ben Franklin Herrington and Zula Bostic Herrington. In April 1948 she married
Ernest Alvin Cobble, and they spent 23 wonderful years of marriage together before he preceded her in death. She "loved life to the fullest" and bowled in two leagues into her 90's. She loved raising tomatoes and muscadines and making homemade jams for family and friends even the very summer that she turned 100! She moved from her home at 110 Tabor Road in Oak Ridge, Tenn., to Asbury at Baysmont in Kingsport, Tenn., in December 2004 where she maintained her "feisty" attitude that kept family and staff on laughing and on their toes.
She is survived by one step-son, Raymond Cobble and wife, Ernestine, of Knoxville, Tenn.; one step-daughter, Vivian Ripley and husband, Bo, of Kingsport; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two nephews, Robert and Herman Richmond; one niece, Lillie B. Wood; and her devoted caregivers, Pat Connell and the Woods family of Oak Ridge, Tenn.
The family will receive friends at Sinking Springs Lutheran Church on Saturday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
A celebration of her life will be held at Sinking Springs Lutheran Church in Midway, Tenn., on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Ed Wolff.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

ROGERSVILLE - Reed Courtney, 64, passed away Wednesday (Nov. 23, 2005) at his residence.
He was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mary Courtney; and one brother, Billy Ray Courtney.
He is survived by two sons, Billy Courtney and wife, Nancy and Ronald Courtney and wife, Deana; brother, Roy Courtney and wife, Linda all of Rogersville; three grandchildren, Chevy, Cheyenne and Kaylea; three nieces; three great-nieces; and one great-nephew.

Frank "Eddie" Dorton, 65, Castlewood, Va.
CASTLEWOOD, Va. - Frank Edward "Eddie" Dorton, 65, died Wednesday (Nov. 23, 2005) in the Russell County Medical Center.
Born August 25, 1940, a son of the late Frank Easterly Dorton and Carolyn Jeanette Thomas Dorton, he attended the Open Door Tabernacle Church.
Survivors include his mother, Carolyn Jeanette Dorton, Castlewood, Va.; one brother, Jay Dorton and wife Debra, Bristol, Va.; two nieces, Buffie Jones and husband, Collin and Stacie Ward and husband, Kyle all of Bristol, Va.; one nephew, John Dorton and wife Donna, Clermont, Fla.; and a special friend, Judy Hobbs, Castlewood, Va.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday prior to the services at the Open Door Tabernacle Church.
Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in the church with the Rev. Buddy Burke and the Rev. Charlie Killen officiating.
Burial will follow in the Ketron Memorial Gardens.

Matthew Freeman, 91, Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY - Matthew Freeman, 91, formerly of 1423 North Baxter Street, died Thursday (Nov. 24, 2005) at Lakebridge Healthcare Center.
He was a Roan Mountain, Tenn., native who had lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was a son of the late Henry C. "H.C." and Dollie Viola Arnett Freeman.
Mr. Freeman was a member of the Tacoma Church of God.
He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and was retired from the Mason & Dixon Lines. He was a member of the V.F.W., the Teamsters, the Johnson City Moose Lodge, and the Johnson City Civitan Club. He was an avid golfer, a wonderful father, and a true friend to those who knew him.
He is preceded in death by two wives, Mary Cloud Freeman and Ava Fisher Freeman; four brothers, David "Eck" Freeman, Marion Freeman, James J. "Jim" Freeman, and Frank Freeman; four sisters, Blanche Hubbard, Pauline Sapp, Francis Willis, and Essie Tester; half-brother, John Freeman; and half-sister, Maude Miller.
Survivors include his son, Mark Steven Freeman and his wife Stephanie, Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Linda Freeman of Kennesaw, Ga.; very special people in his life, Lana and L.D. Bennett of Gray, Chuck, Teresa, and Sebastian Bennett of Johnson City, Angie, Matt, and Kayla Johannes of Jacksonville, Fla., and Elmer Hinkle of Johnson City; sister, Nina Pickering, Gray; two brothers, John Wesley "Wes" Freeman and George V. "Paul" Freeman, both of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.

Beau Allen Garrett, 44, Jonesville, Va.
JONESVILLE, Va. - Beau Allen Garrett, 44, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Nov. 23, 2005) at this residence following a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Beau was born in Pennington Gap, Va., and lived most of his life in the Stone Creek Community before moving to Jonesville in 2000. Beau was a 1980 graduate of Pennington High School and employed by Adelphia Communications before his illness. He was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman, Washington Redskins and Oklahoma Sooners fan. He was a member of Admant Missionary Baptist Church in Stone Creek. He was a loving son, a great brother, caring uncle and faithful friend who never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Harvey and Minnie Easterling; and paternal grandparents, Mick and Ollie Garrett.
Surviving are his parents, Quintin (Jack) and Ruby Garrett of Jonesville, Va.; two brothers, Sandy Garrett and wife, Jan of Jonesville, Va., and Mike Garrett of Pennington Gap, Va.; one sister, Margi Travis and husband, Wayde of Jonesville, Va.; three nephews, Jamie Garrett and wife, Hannah of Knoxville, Tenn., Kris Garrett and wife, Misti of Kingsport, and Tyler Garrett of Big Stone Gap, Va.; one niece, Jessica Garrett of Big Stone Gap, Va.; one great-nephew, Kaleb Garrett of Kingsport; and many relatives and many, many friends including his life-long best friend, Bruce Ellis of Jonesville, Va.

KINGSPORT - Pastor Joe Willard Goad, Jr., 58, went to be with the Lord after an extended illness on Tuesday (Nov. 22, 2005) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was born in Kingsport and lived here most of his life. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping, but his life was his ministry. He was the pastor of the Central Assembly of God Church for over 28 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe R.B. Goad and Virginia Ruth Hammonds Goad.
Pastor Joe was survived by his wife of 39 years, Margaret Ruth Goad, of the home; his children, Rhonda Ruth Kistner, Scott Joe Goad and wife Amanda, Stephen Goad and wife Torrie, and Jessie Goad, all of Kingsport; six grandchildren, Brandon Salley, Samantha Kistner, Jackson Goad, Jared Goad, Seth Goad, and Marganna Goad; two sisters, Frances Spivey of Georgia and Kathy Lemaster of Chattanooga; one brother, James Goad and wife Judy, Grover, N.C.; a special aunt, Lee Presley; a special nephew, David Waycaster and wife Lori; a great-niece, Megan Waycaster; as well as several other nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Central Assembly of God Church, 1801 McGhee St.
Services will be held at 12 noon Saturday at the church with Pastor Charles Bogle, Pastor Bob Yates and Pastor Carl Kelleher officiating.

BLUFF CITY - God rejoices in the death of his saints. Jessie Mae King Goodwin, of Bluff City, passed on to glory on Wednesday (Nov. 23, 2005) from Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late J.E. "Papa" and Sarah Margaret Milhorn "Mama" King.
Jessie was the owner and operator of King's Grocery and Servicenter. In addition to serving the community's grocery and automobile needs, she won awards and vacations for her outstanding salesmanship. But her first love was her Lord and his church. A faithful servant for her entire lifetime, she served the Lord through Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church in many ways. She was a member for 73 years, taught Sunday School and worked with the youth for more than 50 years, and served as a leader and member of many committees.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren H. Goodwin; sisters, Beatrice Watkins, Gonzella Milhorn, Mary Lee Coffman and Jamie Earhart; and brother Roy King.
She is survived by her brother, J.D. King; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:45 a.m. Saturday at Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church.
Services will follow at 12 noon with Rev. Walt Simmerman, Rev. Curt McKee and Rev. Dennis Milhorn officiating.
Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.

KINGSPORT - Ruby Poff Herron, 74, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Tuesday (Nov. 22, 2005) at Hillside Manor Health Care.
Born in Scott County, Va., (Gate City), Ruby had lived in this area since 1950.
She was previously employed at the Great Body Company in the nursery department.
Ruby was a member of Friendship Chapel Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Herron; her parents, Jake Poff and Mary Carter Poff; and one sister, Patricia Ridout.
She is survived by her sons, Ron E. Herron and wife, Chris of Kingsport and Roger Herron and wife, Sherry of Pawleys Island, S.C.; grandchildren, Brett Herron, Dustin Herron, Ryan Herron, Eric Herron and Heather Allen; sister, Mildred Flanary of Kingsport; brothers, Calvin Poff of Kingsport and Paul Poff of Richmond, Va.; special friend, Rev. Milligan Herron; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, Va.
