Irene Gertrude Hill, 80, Elizabethton.
ELIZABETHTON - Irene Gertrude Arnett Hill, 80, Elizabethton, went to be with the Lord on Monday (Nov. 28, 2005) in the Intensive Care Unit at Sycamore Shoal Hospital.
A native of Roan Mountain, she had lived most of her life in Elizabethton. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Daley Stevens Arnett.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Marie Hartley; a sister, Christine Arnett; and a brother, Junior Arnett.
Mrs. Hill was retired from North American Rayon Corporation and was a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church. She also worked at several restaurants in the area.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Mary Hill of Unicoi, Vincent and Carolyn Hill of Surgoinsville, and Wade and Linda Gail Hill of Elizabethton; one daughter and son-in-law, Debra J. and Robert Sams of Elizabethton; four granddaughters, Susan Chambers and Stacie Looney of Surgoinsville, Kimberly Gardner and Dana Miller of Granite Falls, N.C.; six grandsons, Eric Sams, Scott Hill, Jeremy Hill and Joseph Hill of Elizabethton, Kelvin Hartley of Hampton, and Brandon Hill of New York; 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Marcus Arnett and Leon Arnett of Michigan, John Arnett of North Carolina; four sisters, Zedia Ellis and and Martha Cress of Elizabethton, Helen Riddle of Georgia, and Mary Carter of Massachusetts; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Memorial Funeral Chapel, Elizabethton.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home with Pastor Bobby Stout and Mr. Kirk Langston officiating.
Music will be under the direction of Scott Reynolds.
Graveside and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Happy Valley Memorial Park.
Pallbearers, family and friends are requested to assemble at the funeral chapel at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
Byron Alvero Isom, 80, Norton, Va.
NORTON, Va. - Byron Alvero Isom, 80, died Tuesday (Nov. 29, 2005) at Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap.
Born to the late James A. and Cynthia Sargent Isom, he was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Sturgill Isom.
A retired coal miner with Old Ben Coal Company, Mr. Isom was a member of UMWA Dixiana Local 8017.
Surviving are his children (and spouses), Gayetta Collins, Wise, Va., Benny (Debbie) Isom, Norton, Billie (Franklin) Stidham, Knoxville, and Roger Isom; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The Rev. Roger Jenkins was a very special friend.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Roger Sloce officiating.

Paul Jarnagin, 70, Jonesville, Va.
JONESVILLE - Paul Jarnagin, 70, passed away Sunday (Nov. 27, 2005) at residence.
A lifelong resident of Lee County, Va., he was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Jonesville, Va., and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas and Laura Jarnagin; and four sisters, Mary Jarnagin, Viola Jarnagin, Ruby Nell Snodgrass, and Tommie Snodgrass.
Surviving are his wife, Norma "Cookie" Jarnagin of Jonesville, Va.; one son, Paul Ray Jarnagin of Jonesville, Va.; four daughters, Rita Christian and husband, Danny of Dryden, Va., Deborah Ely and husband, Roger of Jonesville, Va., Patricia Jarnagin of Jonesville, Va., and Paula Jones and husband, Tim of Jonesville, Va.; five grandchildren, Brad and Brandon Chasteen, Bryan Christian, Ashley Jones, and Madison Ely; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Chaz Chasteen; three brothers, Robert Jarnagin, Ronald Buster Jarnagin, and Woody Jarnagin, all of Jonesville, Va.; two sisters, Martha Newman of Kingsport and Betty Hopkins of Jonesville, Va.; a very special friend, James Yeary; and a host of others.

Lois Louise Jaynes, 82, Rose Hill, Va.
ROSE HILL, Va. - Lois Louise Jaynes, 82, passed away Monday (Nov. 28, 2005) at the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville.
She lived most of her life in Lee County and attended the Rose Dale Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bruce Jaynes; her parents, Lincoln and Carrie Marcum; and two brothers, Chester and Hoover Marcum.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Maness and husband David of Marion, Va.; one sister, Jewell Davis of Rose Hill; two sisters-in-law, Gladys and Judy Marcum; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Rose Hill, Va.

William Loscombe Jr., 81, Pennington Gap, Va.
PENNINGTON GAP, Va. - William James "Little Bill" Loscombe Jr. was born in Scranton, Pa., on Sunday, Oct. 12, 1924, and passed away at his daughter's home in Franklin, Ky., on Friday (Nov. 25, 2005) at the age of 81 years.
He had lived in Lee County, Va., for many years before returning to Scranton, Pa. Bill had retired as an electrician and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during World War II where he flew 39 combat missions as an engineer gunner on a B-52 aircraft. He received the Purple Heart, Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross along with other medals. He also served during the Korean War.
He was a member of the American Legion, Hyde Park Masonic Lodge #339 of Scranton, Pa., and a lifelong member and past commander of the VFW Post #10298 of Pennington Gap, Va.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William James Sr. and Margaret Loscombe; four brothers, Thomas, John, Lewis and Gordon Loscombe; one sister, Margaret Keller.
Bill is survived by his wife, Marilyn H. Loscombe of the home; two sons, William Brian Loscombe and wife, Donna M. of Abilene, Tex., Philip William Loscombe and wife, Naomi of Plains, Pa.; one daughter, Pamela D. Caudill and husband, Jeff of Franklin, Ky.; step-son, Steven Lee Hobdy and wife, Beverly of Franklin, Ky.; grandchildren, Chelsea Anne and Whitney Marie Loscombe, Penny Darlene Daniel and David Glen Crusenberry, Philip Jr. and Christina Loscombe, Stephanie and Michele; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Province Funeral Home, Pennington Gap, Va.
Masonic Rites will be held at 8 p.m. today after the visitation.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home sanctuary with Rev. Bradley Ray Yeary officiating.

Anna Sue McConnell, 64, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Anna Sue McConnell, 64, of Gate City, Va., departed this life at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 29, 2005) following a long battle with cancer.
Sue was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her. She was a member of the Holston View United Methodist Church. She was born in Kingsport on Sept. 9, 1941, a daughter of the late Paul A. Pope and Jennie Mae Pope. She was retired from the Scott County School System.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Willie Paul Pope.
Surviving are her husband and caregiver, Bill Ray McConnell of Gate City, Va.; one daughter, Rhonda McConnell Carter and husband Preston Carter of Bristol, Tenn.; one son, Brent Ray McConnell and wife Debi of Gate City, Va.; grandchildren, Nicholas Ray McConnell, Matthew Garrett McConnell and Aidan Kelly Carter; brother, Curtis Pope and wife Nancy of Chesterlawn, Md.; sister, Betty Jo Pope of Cumming, Ga.; nieces, Jo Cheryl Underwood and husband Jim, Jennifer Pearson and husband David, Conci Rosa and husband Matt, and Heidi Barry and husband Ryan; several great-nieces and nephews; aunt, Peggy Broadwater and husband Lowell of Nickelsville, Va.; uncle, Isaac Joe Kilgore and wife Agnes of Kingsport.

Jack O. Morelock, 81, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Jack O. Morelock, 81, passed away from this earthly life Tuesday (Nov. 29, 2005) at his home.
Jack was born March 12, 1924 in Sullivan County, one of 13 children born to the late O. Ray and Mary Alice (Baldwin) Morelock.
He was a veteran serving with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the VFW 3382 of Kingsport and a member of the National Guard of Kingsport. Jack was employed by the City of Kingsport.
Jack attended the Apostolic Lighthouse Church with his wife before her death.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Eura Jane (Rasnick) Morelock (June 24, 2001); two sisters, Aileen Mills and Lee Wright; his brother, Rev. Lynn Morelock; and a grandson, Jason Carl Williams (May 24, 1999).
Surviving are his loving family, his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Nancy Morelock of Augusta, Ga.; his daughter, Jackie Morelock, of the home; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Ethel Roop, Bobbie and Allie Crawford, Peggy and Clyde Duncan; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dillard and Imogene Morelock, Jim and Joan Morelock, Ben Morelock, Malcolm (Bo) and Carolyn Morelock, Donald and Sue Morelock; granddaughters, Kimberley Williams and fiance Chad, and Becky Begley; great-granddaughters, Cassandra Rose and Alexandria Rhea; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jeffery Lynn and Paula Morelock; many nieces and nephews, and his very special nephew, Dewey Lee Rasnick; also very special family and friends, Joy D. He was born and raised in Scott County, Va. He was a retired truck driver and a former owner of Scott County Cab Co.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Genilene Collins Porter; parents, Bordie Edward and Eulalee Agee Porter.
Surviving are his daughter, Connie Turner and husband Darren, Gate City; sons, David Porter and wife Judy, Clinchport, Va., and Mike Porter, Kingsport; grandchildren, Toby, Justin, Heather, Jeremy, Jonathan, Derek Porter and Christopher Jennings; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Wilma Shelton and husband J. ROGERSVILLE - Mackey John Smith, 68, went to be with the Lord Monday (Nov. 28, 2005).
He was an ordained minister of the gospel of Christ and pastored churches in Michigan. He was a member of Sulphur Springs Primitive Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. He attended Liberty Chapel Primitive Baptist Church when able. Mack died in the faith looking for the blessed hope.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emma Tidwell Smith; wife, Sara Kirkpatrick Smith; and son, Stephen Smith.
Surviving are his wife of 171/2 years, Brenda Coffey Smith; son, Caleb John Smith, both of the home; daughter, Lyda Gay Smith and fiance, Kurt Stanfill of Rochester Hills, Mich.; two brothers, Bobby D. Smith and wife Georgia of Rogersville, Wayne B. Smith and wife Linda of Otter Lake, Mich.; seven nieces and two nephews.

Willie Smith, 75, Gray.
GRAY - Willie Quillin Smith, 75, 114 Lester Heights Rd., passed away Sunday morning at Life Care Center of Gray after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Big Stone Gap, Va., and was a daughter of the late William Benton Quillin and Mary Hood Quillin. She grew up in Big Stone Gap and graduated from Big Stone Gap High School. Willie lived in Kingsport most of her adult life.
She was a member of Ketron Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, choir member, United Methodist Women, and served many roles in leadership, and was retired from Fine's Jewelers.
She was a wonderful, loving mother to her two adopted children, Amy and Mike Smith, who she raised from infancy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Lee Quillin and William B. Quillin; one sister, Mary Helen Quillin.
Surviving are one son, Michael Andrew Smith of North Carolina; one daughter, Amy Anne Smith of Gray; one brother, John R. Quillin of Big Stone Gap, Va.; three sisters, Virginia Shupe (James) of Big Stone Gap, Va., Ruth Blakemore of Kingsport, Jean Wofford (J.B.) of Conover, N.C.; one granddaughter, Allison Candace Fleenor of Gray; father of her children, Dan Smith of Gray; and several nieces and nephews.
