Ora L. Casteel, 68, Rome, Ga.
ROME, Ga. - Ora L. Casteel, 68, of Rome, Ga., and Greeneville, died Thursday evening (Dec. 8, 2005) at her residence in Rome.
Ms. Casteel was a native of Monroe County, Tenn., where she was born on Sept. 11, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Pearl Collins and was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Montieth.
She was a cashier for Ingles Supermarket. She was a member of Oak Glen Baptist Church in Fall Branch.
Surviving are her husband, John William "Bill" Casteel, Greeneville, whom she married
May 16, 1976; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Brian Brackett, Rome, Ga.; two grandchildren, Jonathan and Jacqueline Brackett, Rome, Ga.; parents, Roy and Reba Armentrout, Fall Branch; sister, Joyce Philpott, Marietta, Ga.; brother, Steve Armentrout, Fall Branch.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Kiser Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jerry Hall officiating.
Interment will be in Oak Glen Cemetery, Fall Branch.

Cornelia Compton, 81, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Cornelia "Bunch" Compton, 81, Kingsport, went to be with Jesus early Saturday morning (Dec. 10, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.
Cornelia was a native of Greene County and moved to Kingsport in 1959. She was a nurse and retired in 1990 from Indian Path Medical Center where she worked in the recovery room.
She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and attended Homeland Baptist Church.
Her husband, Ervin Compton, preceded her in death in 1961. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Thomas A. and Gladys M. Bolton; a brother, Carson Bolton; and nephew, Bobby Weems.
Surviving are three daughters, Iva Nell Chapman and husband Richard, Faye Head and husband Glenn, and Diane Robinson and husband Doyle, all of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Kristy Overbey, Trevor Head, Chad Horton, Dustin Horton, and Tesla Robinson; nine great-grandchildren, Baylee, Tanner, Casey, Grayson, Chapel, Payton, Dillon, Kalyn, and Stephanie; and sister, Thelma Weems, Manassas, Va.
A special thank you for the extraordinary care our mother received at Brookhaven Manor and Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Homeland Baptist Church (located at Hwy. 93, Vernon Heights community).
Services will be held at 8 p.m. Monday at the church with Pastor J.W. Depew officiating.
Special music will be provided by Damon Depew and Tammy Black.
Mrs. Compton will be taken to Pine Grove Baptist Church Tuesday where friends may visit from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to graveside services at 2 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.

ROGERSVILLE - Samuel Ray Dinsmore, 85, of Rogersville, went to be with the Lord Friday (December 9, 2005) at Church Hill Healthcare Center.
He was born Sept. 20, 1920 in Hawkins County. He was a retired farmer and was retired from the Kingsport Press.
He was a member of Cold Springs Freewill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Greer; parents, Dave Dinsmore and Annie Williams; brothers, Bud Williams and Tom Williams; and sister, Leona Coffey.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Dinsmore of the home; children, Mildred Housewright of Surgoinsville, Lola (Lote) Chess, Sam Dinsmore, and Ralph Dinsmore of Rogersville; stepchildren, Clyde Williams of Surgoinsville, Alice (Toots) Hickman of Greeneville, Robert (Cotney) Williams of Mount Carmel, Mary Lee Davis of Surgoinsville, Pearl Housewright of Mount Carmel, Harrison Williams of Surgoinsville, and David Williams of Rogersville, Virginia McKenzie of Maryland, James Ralph Greer of Kentucky, William R. JEFFERSON CITY - Henry Travis Elkins, 32, of Jefferson City, went to be with the Lord Friday (Dec. 9, 2005) at his home.
He was born in Rogersville, and was a loving husband and a wonderful father.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Mae Elkins; and aunt, Vicki Davis.
He is survived by his loving wife, Amy LeAnne Winstead Elkins; and precious daughter, Chloe LeAnne Elkins; mother, Kathy (Steve) Kimbrough; father, Carl Eugene (Peggy) Elkins; mother-in-law, Linda Faye Winstead and step-father-in-law, Rainer Betterdorf; father-in-law, Albert L. Mary Freda Kelly, 85, Clinchport, Va.
CLINCHPORT, Va. - Mary Freda Kelly, 85, died Wednesday evening (Dec. 7, 2005) at Ridgecrest Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Duffield after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.
Born in Scott County, she resided many years in the Richmond and Charlottesville areas before returning to Clinchport. She was a retired corrections officer from the Goochland Prison for Women and also worked in her younger years as a hairdresser in the Kingsport and Scottsville, Va., areas.
She was kind, generous and fun loving. She was also a great cook, a talented seamstress and a wonderful neighbor with many friends.
Mrs. Kelly was preceded in death by her parents, James Nathaniel and Pearl Beatrice White Kelly; a brother, Hobart Glenn Kelly; and a sister, Jamie K. Franklin. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Earl Lloyd Shores and Charles Jackson.
Survivors include her only daughter, Mary Kay Shores of Clinchport.; one sister, Virginia Shores of Cary, N.C.; one brother, Eugene Newton Kelly of Clinchport; nieces, Jayne and husband Jack Wells of Cary, N.C., Pamela Kelly Bryant of Charlottesville, Va., Patricia Ball of Duffield, Barbara and husband Dennis Hass of Duffield, Va., and Betty and husband Thomas Fugate of Frankfort, Ky.; nephew, William James (Bill) Franklin Jr. and wife Janet of Duffield; several great-nieces and nephews.
At the request of the family and in keeping with Freda's wishes, no formal services will be held at the funeral home and her body was cremated.
Her ashes will be interred at a later date in Centenary cemetery in Centenary, Va.

Leon Edward Mechem, 77, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Leon Edward Mechem, 77, of Kingsport, died at 2:20 a.m. Saturday morning (Dec. 10, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Hobart, Okla., he grew up in Dallas, Tex., and had resided in Kingsport since the early 1950's. He graduated from the University of Texas with a bachelor of science degree in Accounting.
Mr. Mechem served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was assigned to Holston Army Ammunition Plant. Then subsequently he went to work at Tennessee Eastman Company where later he held the position of treasurer and comptroller.
He was a member of Kiwanis, S.C.O.R.E., First Broad Street United Methodist Church, past president of the National Association of Accountants, and also served as treasurer of Friends of the Library.
Following retirement, he became co-owner of Kingsport Gems and Jewelry, continuing a longtime gem faceting hobby into a popular local business.
Mr. Mechem was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Mechem; and a sister, Joan Kirsh.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Hoge Mechem, Kingsport; daughter, Cynthia Duff Mechem and husband Pat Viglietta, New Rochelle, N.Y.; twin sons, Leon Edward Mechem Jr. and wife Carolyn, Kingsport, Everett Hoge Mechem and wife Sheila, Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Madeline Watson Mechem and Stuart Hoge Mechem; two nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Oak Hill Memorial Park.
A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Edwards officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
