Warren Jones, 67, Atkins, Va.
ATKINS, Va. - Henry Warren "Shorty" Jones, 67, passed away Tuesday (Jan. 3, 2006) at his home in Atkins.

Mr. Jones was born in Smyth County to the late Rev. Ralph and Helen Louise Jones.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Stella Jean Maloyed; and a brother, Wallace Conley Jones.

He was retired from the Flatwoods Job Corps Center with over 27 years of service as a carpentry instructor. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local #319, Roanoke, for 30 years. Mr. Jones was very active with the little league basketball and football programs and the 4-H program.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Jones; children, Terence and Audrey Jones, Atkins, Earl and Jennifer Jones, Chilhowie, Farrell and Julia Jones, Chilhowie; brothers and sisters, Bill and Martha Jones, Jonesborough, Paul and Betty Jones, Chilhowie, Juanita and Ray Stuart, Boiling Springs, S.C., Carol and Gene Moser, Greer, S.C.; grandchildren, Kevin Jones and friend, Becky, Jennifer and Seth Cook, Lindsey and Bobby Jones, Megan Jones, and Zack Jones; step-grandchildren, Katie Meek and Adreanna Meek; great-grandchildren, Ethan Jones, Joslyn Jones, and Leslie Cook; and several nieces and nephews

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Bradley's Funeral Hme, Marion, Va.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Harry Howe and Rev. Robert Lefford officiating.

Interment will follow in Ridgedale cemetery in Rich Valley.

Linda Kay Kern, 65, Ft. Blackmore, Va.
FT. BLACKMORE, Va. - Memorial service for Mrs. Linda Kay Kern, 65, who entered into rest Saturday (Dec. 31, 2005), will be conducted on Sunday (Jan. 8, 2006) at Slant United Methodist Church at 12 noon with the Rev. Richie Neese officiating.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Patsy, Cathy and Tracy for their love and support.

Frances Lifford, 79, Church Hill.
CHURCH HILL - Frances Mary Lifford, 79, of Church Hill, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday (Jan. 4, 2006) at Indian Path Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Lifford spent most of her life in Hawkins County and was a member of Valley Church of Christ. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren G. Lifford; her parents, Robert W. and Mary Ragle Neill; two brothers, Robert E. Neill and Joe Neill; two sisters, Virginia Coates and Lady Blevins Cooper.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Ben and Joyce Lifford, Surgoinsville, David and Lucy Ann Lifford, Jonesville, Va., Norman and Sandra Lifford, Church Hill; three daughters and sons-in-law, Inez and Wayne Byrd, Church Hill, Carolyn Lifford Neill, Centennial, Colo., Jean and Richard McCloud, Kingsport; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Opal Neill and Inez Neill Collins, both of Kingsport; special friends, Mary Bullock and Judy Stidham; several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the staff at Church Hill Health Care & Rehab Center and doctors and staff of Indian Path Medical Center.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home, Church Hill, and anytime at the residence of her daughter, Inez Byrd, 308 McArthur Lane, Church Hill.

Services will be conducted Friday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Minister David Irick officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Rogersville Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Lifford, Dustin Lifford, Jeff Lucas, Matthew Lifford, Jason Byrd and Thomas McKinley.

Honorary bearers will be Wayne Byrd and Richard McCloud.

Chris Joseph Maya Sr., 96, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Chris Joseph Maya Sr., (Issa Yousef Ma'ayeh), 96, of E. Jackson Street, passed away Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 3, 2006) at the Brian Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Weber City, Va.

Born Jan. 1, 1910, he was a son of the late Yousef Salman and Gamra Giries Sunna Ma'ayeh, in Madaba, Jordan. At an early age after his mother's passing, his father moved him and his family to the Holy City of Jerusalem, which was at that time the country of Palestine. While there he was educated at St. George's School where he was one of the top students.

He was employed during his early adult life at Barclay's Bank in Jerusalem. In 1938, he filed for immigration papers which, due to World War II, were delayed until 1948. On arrival of his papers he boarded a steam-liner for his 6-week journey for a dream, and new life - to become an American.

Upon arrival in the United States, he searched for meaningful employment, eventually moving to southwest Virginia, with his cousins, Mike and Farid Salaita. In 1952, he established his own business in Clinchport, Va. In 1953, he hired a sales clerk named Mary Nell Roberts, whom he married in 1954. In 1956 they were blessed with twin children, Chris Joseph and Camellia Nell.

After that time they relocated to Gate City, Va., to establish Chris Department Store, which still today is a downtown Gate City icon and maintains much history of the area and its culture. Eventually their store became their home, with their customers as their family.

Along with his parents, Mr. Maya was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nell Roberts Maya (May 19, 2005); six brothers, Geries, Zakie, Elias, Fayez, Jubran and Michael; and three sisters, Katrina, Sabat and Virginie.

He is survived by his daughter, Camellia Nell Maya of Gate City; his son, Chris Joseph Maya Jr. and spouse Sandra of Gate City; five grandchildren, Christopher Maya, Mark Maya, Matthew Carrico, Zachary Carrico, and Alexander Grey Maya; three great-grandchildren, Brealin Ezra Maya, Braxton Ezra Davis, and Mackenzie Racheli Ainsworth; two sisters, Neda Karadsheh and Suad Akashay, both of Jordan; along with many friends and extended family too numerous to mention.

Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, Va.

Services will be held in the funeral home chapel at 5 p.m. Saturday with Father Louis Scoulas, Rev. Wrightley Sallings and Rev. John Hackney officiating.

Music will be provided by the Szauter Family Singers.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:55 p.m.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, Va.

Christine C. McCrary, Kerrville, Tex.
KERRVILLE, Tex. - Services for Christine C. McCrary, wife of the late Joe McCrary, who passed away Sunday (Jan. 1, 2006), will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

The staff of Oak Hill Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. McCrary.

Noah C. Meade, 90, Blountville.
BLOUNTVILLE - Noah C. Meade, 90, died Tuesday (Jan. 3, 2006) at Indian Path Medical Center.

He was born in Scott County, Va., and was son of the late Patton and Lillie Dean Meade. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eliza Meade.

He is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Couch and husband, Roy of Castlewood, Va., and Gladys Carico and husband, Hansel of Blountville; one sister, Nellie Dean of Lebanon, Va.; five grandchildren, Randy Carico, Teresa Clark, Wayne Carico, Gregg Carico, and Richie Carico; seven great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Clark, Dylan Carico, Katelyn Carico, Chyna Carico, Zackery Carico, Matthew Carico, and Luke Carico; special friends, Al Crawford, Shirley and Harvey Castle, and George King; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Va.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Va., with Pastor Peggy Porter officiating.

Interment will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Va.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and son-in-laws.

Billie Jo Rhoten, 80, Weber City, Va.
Services for Billie Jo Rhoten, 80, of Greenwood Drive, Weber City, Va., who went to be with the Lord early Monday (Jan. 2, 2006), will take place at 1 p.m. today in the chapel of Scott County Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff DeBoard officiating.

Calling hours are from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 208 Sunset Drive, Johnson City, Tenn. 37601.

Garland Wade Jr., 48, Rogersville.
Graveside services for Garland Henderson Wade Jr., 48, of Richards Road, Rogersville, who passed away Monday (Jan. 2, 2006), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Wallace Cemetery.

Rev. Charles Weatherford, 77, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Rev. Charles Lindbergh Weatherford, 77, went to be with the Lord on Monday (Jan. 2, 2006) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Mr. Weatherford was born on March 3, 1928 and was the son of the late Charles and Martha Green Weatherford.

He served as pastor at Hamblin Baptist Church in Castlewood, Va., for 29 years.

He was loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn B. Weatherford.

Surviving are his son, Charles L. (Chuck) Weatherford, Jr. and wife Pamela of Lexington, Ky.; daughter, Sandy Shelton and husband Jerry, Kingsport; grandsons, Dustin Shelton and wife Danielle, Ryan Shelton and wife Whitney and Bryce; brothers, George Weatherford and wife Dot, Hartsville, Ala., and Tom Weatherford and wife Judy, Kingsport. Many in-laws, nieces and nephews and his church family and friends at Hamblin Baptist Church.

Military graveside services will be conducted at Oak Hill cemetery at 11 a.m. today with American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265 in charge. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Bob Ramey, Ike Turner, Garland Cornett, Steve Stewart, Larry Short, W.J. Adkisson and Donald Gross.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Fields and Johnny Mellons.

Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport is in charge of arrangements.

Lois Annette Payne White, 68, Kingsport.
Services for Lois Annette Payne White, 68, Kingsport, who passed away peacefully, will be conducted at Mercy Seat Ministries at 11:30 a.m. Friday with Pastor Leander Ray officiating.

Mrs. White will be taken to the church one hour prior to services to lie in state.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at East Lawn Funeral Home and at other hours at the residence.

Graveside services will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Edward Payne, Bo Payne, Ken Fields, Johnny Fields, Pam Harper, Demitra Hunsinger, Ronnie Fields, and Gordon Fields.

East Lawn Funeral Home is serving the family of Lois Annette Payne White.

Emma L. Williams, 77, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Emma L. Williams, 77, of Weber City, Va., went to be with the Lord Tuesday (Jan. 3, 2006) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest A. Williams; father, William "Bill" Benton Spivey; mother, Clara Etta Spivey; eight brothers, Kelly Spivey, Dewey Spivey, Eugene Spivey, James Spivey, John Spivey, Sylvester Spivey, Orbin Spivey and Cecil Spivey.

Surviving are her son, Terry Williams and wife, Roanna, of Gray; three sisters, Minnie Lane and Nell Tipton, Gate City, Va., and Janette Carter, Hiltons, Va.; one grandson, Logan Williams, of Gray.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Services will follow in the funeral home chapel at 7 p.m. with Rev. Aaron Pierce officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Those who wish to attend graveside services are asked to meet in the cemetery by 9:45 a.m.

Laura P. Wyatt, 87, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Laura P. Wyatt, 87, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Monday night (Jan. 2, 2006) at Brookhaven Manor after a period of declining health.

Born in Morristown, she had resided in Kingsport since 1943. She was employed in the A.Y. Division of Tennessee Eastman Company for 29 years, retiring in 1972.

Ms. Wyatt was a member of Oakwood Forest Christian Church.

Preceding her in death were a son, Robert Franklin Green; parents, Leslie and Mazie Wyatt; and two sisters, Ruby Simmons and Minerva Jackson.

Surviving are two grandchildren, Robert Leslie Green, Fort Leavenworth, Kans., and Deborah LaCroix, Florida; one sister, Annie Kinkaide, White Pine, Tenn.; special family, Gene and Shirley Harless, Jim and Jeannie Miller, Phil and Tammy Harless, and Brandon and Jordan Harless; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Oakwood Forest Christian Church.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today at the church with Ed Clevinger, minister, and Marlin Jaynes, minister, officiating.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be elders and deacons of Oakwood Forest Christian Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Oakwood Forest Christian Church, 1713 E. Sevier Street, Kingsport, TN 37664.
