Loudema Gilliam, 58, Duffield, Va.
DUFFIELD, Va, - Margaret Loudema Gilliam, 58, of the Fairview community, entered into rest early Monday morning (Jan. 9, 2006) after an illness.
Born in Scott County, she obtained her bachelor's degree in Education from Lincoln Memorial University and her master's degree in Education from Virginia Tech. She was a retired educator with 34 years of service with the Lee County Public School system, having taught at Jonesville, Pennington and most recently Lee High School. She was also a homebound teacher within the school system, taught summer school for many years, and was a night school instructor with Mountain Empire Community College.
She was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Big Stone Gap Lodge, Kentucky Representative of the Lodge, member of both the N.E.A. and the V.E.A.
Surviving are her husband, Ronnie Gilliam of Clinchport; son, Joshua (Mikey) Gilliam of Clinchport; daughter, Lucretia Kitzmiller and husband, Tim of Clinchport; foster daughter, Jenny Watkins and husband, Bob of Colorado Springs, Colo.; parents, Harry and Ruby Frazier Rhoton; sisters, Thelma DeBoard and husband, James of Duffield, and Shirley Meade and husband, Bob of Kingsport; grandchildren, Whitney Kitzmiller and Alex Kitzmiller; foster grandchildren, Monty, Chasin, and Ian; nephews, Brad and Nathan; niece, Jeana; dear friend, Deana Rowe; host of friends.

Gene Hall, 70, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Everette E. (Gene) Hall, 70, of John B. Dennis Highway, went to be with the Lord on Monday evening at The Place of Kingsport.
Born Feb. 3, 1935 in Lee County, Va., he was the son of the late Ralph Eckle and Flora B. Hicks Hall and grew up in the Yuma community of Scott County, Va. He was a mechanic by trade and was a member of Cowans Branch Missionary Baptist Church. He was a member of the Kingsport Masonic Lodge #688 and a lifetime member of the VFW Post #3382 of Kingsport.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Kirk Hall (Oct. 12, 2002).
Surviving are his sister and brother-in-law, Forence and Dennis Frazier of Kingsport; special cousin, Wanda Rose (Polly) Hicks of Church Hill; and several other family and friends.
Calling hours are from 5 to 6:45 p.m. today at Scott County Funeral Home. Masonic services will take place at 6:45 p.m. by the Kingsport Masonic Lodge #688.
Services will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Paul Blessing officiating.

Sara Wilcox Hogan, Alexandria, Va.
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Sara Wilcox Hogan died at her home in Alexandria, Va., on Tuesday (Jan. 3, 2006).
Sara Hogan was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Marshall D. Hogan. Dr. and Mrs. Hogan were longtime residents of Kingsport. Sara Hogan moved to Alexandria, Va., in December of 2002, after the death of her husband.
Sara Hogan is survived by four children. A son, Dr. Edward W. Smith and wife, Terri of Sevierville, Tenn.; and three daughters, Dr. Forrest Ann Smith and husband, Jack Philpot, Laura Smith Abraham and husband, Mark, Ellen Smith Daly and husband, Geoff. Mrs. Hogan had four grandchildren, Mary and David Abraham, and Kathryn and Eric Smith. Also surviving are five step-children, Ginie Hogan, Annie Hubbard, Dr. Jim Hogan, Tere Hogan, and Chiqui Ricuitti.
Sara Wilcox Hogan was born on Dec. 29, 1928, in Clearwater, Fla. Mrs. Hogan's parents were Kathryn J. and Edward B. Wilcox.
The family requests a private graveside service in Bristol.

Kenneth Holbrook, 49, Appalachia, Va.
APPALACHIA, Va. - Kenneth Warren Holbrook, 49, went to be with the Lord on Monday (Jan. 9, 2006) at his home.
A lifelong resident of Wise County, Va., he was a 1975 graduate of Appalachia High School. He was a coal miner with the Harley Coal Company and Harlan Fuel Coal Company. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was of Pentecostal faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow Holbrook.
Surviving are his daughter, Tosha Hall, of Kingsport; two grandchildren, Grace Olivia Hall and Hunter Hall; his mother, Monetta Holbrook of Appalachia; two brothers, Harold Buddy Holbrook of Big Stone Gap, Va., and Van Ross Holbrook of Appalachia; and several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT - Louise C. Keen, 91, Kingsport, entered into the nearer presence of her Lord, Jesus Christ, on Sunday (Jan. 8, 2006) at The Oaks of Kingsport.
She was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Morris Keen; her parents, Joseph Thomas and Mollie Bell Traywick Cox; three sisters, Ruth Cox Jones, Rubye Mae Williams, and Willie B. Calloway; and one brother, Alvin Lee Cox.
Surviving are her son, George Keen, and wife Linda, Kingsport; two grandchildren, Kristen Noel Keen, Raleigh, N.C., Benjamin Patrick Keen and wife Colleen, Shreveport, La.; four great-grandchildren, Avery Elise Keen, Regan Elizabeth Keen, Charis Evelyn Keen, Darby Erin Keen; one sister, Sally Jo Templin and husband Golding Earl, Pelham, Ala.; one brother, Charles Thomas Cox and wife Janie, Cocoa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

ROGERSVILLE - Shirley M. Lawson, a loving wife and mother, 75, passed away Monday evening at home surrounded by her family after a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Kinley; one sister, Nancy Baetz; five brothers, Ari, Dave, George, Johnny and Clifford Kinley; and one grandson, Jonathan Lawson.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Earl C. Lawson Sr.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Greg Harr, Kathy and Ron Carter, both of Surgoinsville, and Dinah and Charlie Lipe of Rogersville; five sons and daughters-in-law, Earl C. Jr. and Kim Lawson, Johnny and Mary Lawson, both of Rogersville, Gary and Teresa Lawson, Leroy and Delois Lawson, and Mike and Deborah Lawson, all of Surgoinsville; 15 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT - Helen Virginia Marion, 82, of Brookhaven Manor, formerly of Stadium Drive, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday (Jan. 10, 2006) at Brookhaven Manor following a long illness.
Born in Saltville, Va., Helen had lived in Kingsport for most of her life. She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey Marion and Effie Marion Carter; and her step-father, Steve Carter.
Surviving are her sister, Betty Taylor and husband Andy, Kingsport; niece, Andrea McMillen and husband Mike, Columbia, Mo.; nephew, Ronnie Taylor, Mount Carmel; great-nephews, Steve Taylor and wife Staci, Mount Carmel, Robby Kirkpatrick and wife Jessica, Columbia, Mo., and Kevin McMillen and wife Joanne, Columbia, Mo.; aunt, Ruth Brooks, Kingsport; also several cousins and friends.

Robert Ray Montgomery, 82, Rose Hill, Va.
ROSE HILL, Va. - Robert Ray Montgomery, 82, departed this life Monday (Dec. 26, 2005) in Bel Air, Md.
Ray was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the South Pacific. He worked several years in the coal yards in Detroit, Mich., before moving to Maryland. He was retired from Western Electric Company in Baltimore and moved back to Rose Hill about 1984.
Ray was a member of Rosedale Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert "Bobby" Montgomery and Cornie Loftice Montgomery; one sister, Viola Montgomery; and seven brothers, Earl, Walter, Clyde, Roger, Eugene, Hoy and Claude.
Survivors include one brother, Billy Montgomery of Baltimore, Md.; three sisters, Betty McIntee of Bel Air, Md., Dora Mae Breeding of Garrison, Ky., and Leola Dezarn of Cranberry Twp., Pa.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial services will be held at Arney-Mullins Funeral Home Chapel in Rose Hill, Va., Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. John Zion officiating.
