Charlie Patton McCoy, 61, St. Paul, Va.
ST. PAUL, Va. - Charlie Patton McCoy, 61, died Tuesday (Jan. 24, 2006) at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.

He was the son of the late Slemp L. McCoy and the late Carrie McCoy.

Survivors include one son, Mark McCoy, Coeburn; one brother, Earl McCoy, Ohio; step-brothers, Alfred Dingus, Jim Dingus and Tom Dingus, all of Ohio; step-sisters, Goldie Dingus, Mabel Dingus and Fern Phantorey; two grandsons, Dylan McCoy and Austin McCoy, Coeburn.

Services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at The Light House Church, on Brushy Ridge, Nora, Va., with Rev. Larry Mullins officiating.

Burial will be at McCoy cemetery in Nora.

The body will be taken to The Light House Church where the family will receive friends after 6 p.m. today.

Clyde D. Mullins, 98, Pound, Va.
POUND, Va. - Clyde D. Mullins, 98, of Pound, Va., passed away early Monday morning (Jan. 23, 2006) at the National Health Care Center, Bristol, Va.

He was born on Nov. 5, 1907, and was basically a lifelong resident of Pound. He was a retired truck driver, having worked for Joy Manufacturing Company and Consolidated Coal Company. Mr. Mullins was a former mayor of Pound, having served four terms from 1982 to 1986 and 1990 to 1994. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was a son of the late Francis Mullins and Sarah Jane Hubbard Mullins.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Maxie Cantrell Mullins, on April 1, 1984; and a daughter, Ina Faye Felts; a great-grandson, Allen Head; and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Lois M. and John A. Theodore, of Queenstown, Md., and Lavonne N. and Billy R. West, of Bristol, Va.; five grandchildren, Bob, Mike, Cheryl, Robin, and Jayne; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Guy K. Mullins, of Gresham, Ore.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Carty Funeral Home, Norton-Wise, Va.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Eddie Sturgill officiating.

Interment will follow at the Dewey Memorial Cemetery, Pound, Va.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Cleo Terry Phillips, 89, Jonesville, Va.
JONESVILLE, Va. - Cleo Terry Phillips, 89, of Jonesville, passed away Tuesday (Jan. 24, 2006) at Indian Path Medical Center.

A lifelong resident of Lee County, Va., she was a member of Victory Freewill Baptist Church in Jonesville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Phillips; son, Freddie Doyle Phillips Sr.; one grandson, Freddie Doyle Phillips Jr.; one sister, Ada Bass; and son-in-law, Roosevelt Allen.

Surviving are one daughter, Louise P. Allen of Jonesville; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Betsy Ficken of Hagerstown, Md.; one niece and one nephew.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Jonesville, Va.

Services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Don Jones officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Millers Chapel cemetery in Jonesville. Those wishing to attend the graveside services are asked to meet at the cemetery at the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Victory Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund.

Barbara Mae Reed, 72, Bluff City.
BLUFF CITY - Barbara Mae Reed, 72, of 473 Kentucky Avenue, died Tuesday (Jan. 24, 2006) at her residence following an extended illness.

A native of Sneedville, she was a daughter of the late Abija and Mossie Jane Baker Green. Mrs. Reed was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Erwin Reed in 1992; and a daughter, Therisa Blevins in 2002.

Survivors include a daughter, Darlena Douglas, Bluff City; two sons, Johnny Reed, Kingsport, and William Reed, Sulphur Springs; stepchildren, Gwen Ford and Dallas Reed, both of Gray, Jerry Reed and Jimmy Reed, both of Kingsport; two sisters, Billie Reed, Kingsport, Doris Nichols, Bluff City; one brother, Dallas Cope, Jonesborough; several granddaughters, grandsons, nieces, and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Tetrick Funeral Home, Bluff City Chapel, or anytime at the residence.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the Bluff City Chapel with Rev. Roger Herron officiating.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday from Morning View Cemetery. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m.Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Scott Nichols, Wallace Reed, Mark Sullivan, Scott Cole, Jerry Reed, Jr., and Kenny Cole.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dallas Cope, Jerry Reed, Sr., and Weldon Ford.

Margaret Reese, 77, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Graveside services for Margaret Nunley Reese, 77, Kingsport, who passed away Sunday evening (Jan. 22, 2006), will be held at 11 a.m. today at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar View Independent Methodist Church building fund, P.O. Box 143, Kingsport, Tenn. 37662.

Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, is serving the Reese family.

Edith Ruth Davis Shiley, 59, Kingsport.
Graveside services for Edith Ruth Davis Shiley, 59, of Kingsport, who left this earth on Saturday (Jan. 21, 2006), will be held at 1 p.m. today at Church Hill Memory Gardens, Church Hill. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Sean Cornett, Roy Davis, Sammy Holmes and Tony Shiley.

The family wishes to extend a special "Thanks" to Dr. Kammell, and to all the nurses and staff at the Bristol Hospice House as well as a Very Special Thanks to Nina Oliva, RN, and the staff at the Oncology Center at Holston Valley Hospital.

Omega Jean Smith, 78, of Duffield, Va.
DUFFIELD, Va. - Omega Jean Smith, 78, of Duffield, went home to be with the Lord, while surrounded by family and loved ones, on Sunday morning (Jan. 22, 2006) at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tenn.

She was born in Arno, Va., and as a child moved to Duffield with her parents, the late Everett and Edith Sproles Munsey, where she resided the remainder of her life. She was a member of the Lynn Garden Evangelical Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant twin brother, Carl; and her husband, Rev. Lester Smith.

She is survived by a daughter, Priscilla; sons, Danny, Mark, and Phillip and wife, Rhonda; brother, Charles and wife, Sandy, all of Duffield; four grandchildren, Kevin and wife, Kelly of Clinchport, Cindy Minton and husband, Billy of Duffield, Nathaniel Smith and Timothy Smith, both of Duffield; three great-grandchilden, Lauren, Makenna, and Molly; sister- in- law, Mavis Smith; loving and caring niece, Loretta Bishop; loving and caring cousin, Linda Arwood; and Georgia Flannery, who was like a sister to her.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at The Duffield Funeral Home at Thomas Village and anytime at the residence.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Garry Edwards, Rev. Robert (Buddy) Legg and Rev. Lester Horton officiating.

Music will be provided by Calvary Road Quartet, The Glory Echoes, and her grandson, Nathaniel Smith.

Committal services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Fraley cemetery in Pattonsville. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. for procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Paul Arwood, Bill Lane, Mike Payne, Roger Evans, Lloyd Love, and Jimmy Bishop.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Smith, Nathaniel Smith, Timothy Smith, Billy Minton, Dennis Stanley, and area ministers.

Joseph K. "Joey" Taylor, 30, Hiltons, Va.
HILTONS, Va. - Joseph Keith "Joey" Taylor, 30, passed away Monday (Jan. 23, 2006).

He was born in the city of Norton, Va., on July 16, 1975. He was a 1994 graduate of Gate City High School. He was an electrician with several local contractors, most recently with Keller Enterprises.

He was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Edna Maiden; paternal grandparents, Dewey and Allie Taylor.

Surviving are his parents, Joe and Kathy Maiden Taylor, Hiltons; brothers and sisters, Daniel Taylor, Hiltons, Allie Darnell and husband Gerald, Hiltons, Chris Taylor and wife Misty, Ft. Hood, Tex., Jennifer Sweet and husband Tom, Honolulu, Hawaii; one niece and four nephews; aunts and uncles, Bob Maiden, Ruby Coffey and husband Gene, Mary Lou Ramey and husband Paul, Dottie Beck, Sam Taylor and wife Betty, Buford Taylor and wife Rita, John Taylor and wife Carrie; numerous cousins including special cousins, Billy Taylor and Kristen Tipton.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Darthula Baptist Church on Lunsford Mill Rd., Hiltons, and anytime at the residence.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in the church with Rev. Layton Bentley officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the family cemetery in Hiltons. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Trevor Keller, Joey Dean, Harrison Pippin, Adam Gardner, Bo Miller, Dewayne Cox.

Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Norma Lea Toni, 74, Church Hill.
CHURCH HILL - Norma Lea Longworth Toni, 74, of Church Hill, went to be with the Lord on Monday evening (Jan. 23, 2006) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was born in St. Charles, Va., but had lived the majority of her life in Church Hill. Norma worked as a bookkeeper with Baylor & Nelms for over 15 years and worked for the past 5 years as a door greeter with Wal-Mart on Fort Henry Drive.

She was a member of Adment Baptist Church in Stone Creek, Va.

Mrs. Toni was such a colorful person who loved life and especially her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Toni; an infant daughter; her parents, Charles and Mary Longworth; a brother, Bill Longworth; a sister, Ilo Robbins.

Surviving are her daughter, Karen Miller, Church Hill; a granddaughter, Lora Goddard and her husband Tim, Rogersville; a great-grandson, Alex Goddard; her brother, Roger Longworth and his wife Mary, Blountville; along with several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home of Church Hill.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Kenneth Ellis officiating.

Graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Church Hill Memory Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

R.C. Wagner, 85, Mount Carmel.
Military graveside services for R.C. Wagner, 85, Mount Carmel, who passed away Monday (Jan. 23, 2006), will be held today at 2:30 p.m. at Liberty Hill cemetery with military honors conducted by the Hawkins County Color Guard.

The family requests those desiring may make memorial contributions to the charity of choice.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Ina Marie Way, 78, Surgoinsville.
SURGOINSVILLE - Ina Marie Way, 78, went home to be with the Lord and her husband, Fred, Monday (Jan. 23, 2006) at the Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Way was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and was a member of Longs Bend Missionary Baptist Church and attended Phipps Bend Free Will Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Fred Way; her parents, Dewey and Dovie Caldwell Manis; sister, Nina Dowdy; and brother, Carson Manis.

She is survived by one son, Eddie Wayne Way and fiancee, Shira Riggs, Surgoinsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jean and Carl McPeek, Rogersville; three grandchildren, Tammy McPeek, Shannon Marie Bridges and Cory Shane Way; five great-grandchildren, Christopher, Kayla, Tyler, Brandy and D.J.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dewey and Betty Manis Jr. and Michael and Ann Manis, all of Surgoinsville; one sister, Barbara Hutson, Church Hill.

Special thanks to the staff and caregivers of Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the home of her daughter, Betty McPeek, 158 Regency Drive, Rogersville.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Fain Arnold and the Rev. Chris Castle officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Marty Scism, David Manis, Chris Manis, Tim Anderson, David Caldwell, and Charles Caldwell.

The family requests those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Phipps Bend Free Will Baptist Church.

JONESBOROUGH - William M. Burden, 69, went to be with the Lord on Friday (Jan. 20, 2006) at Indian Path Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by the Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
