She had lived in Rogersville for the past 6 years.

KINGSPORT - Elizabeth H. Light, of Kingsport, passed away early Saturday (Jan. 28, 2006) morning at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born in Hancock County and resided in Kingsport most of her life. Elizabeth retired in 1986 from the Tennessee Eastman Chemical Company after 43 years of service.
Mrs. Light was a member of Mt. View United Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Metford Light; parents, James and Dora Hurd; one brother, Roy Hurd; two sisters, Rettie Hurd Alsup and Ruby Hurd Hall.
Surviving are two sisters, Hazel Blalock and Juanita Horton, both of Kingsport; three brothers, Conley Hurd of Kingsport, James M. Hurd Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C., and Charles Hurd of Kyles Ford; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport, or anytime at the home of her sister, Juanita Horton, 1617 High Point Ave., Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home with Rev. Luke Conway officiating.
Graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

KINGSPORT - Jerry Michael Roberts Sr., 55, went home to be with the Lord Sunday (Jan. 29, 2006) in Holston Valley Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Roberts was born on April 1, 1950, in Kingsport, a son of the late John A. Roberts, and Zella Whitaker Roberts. He had lived all his life in the Kingsport area, and was of the Apostolic faith. He was a loving father, son, brother, uncle, and papaw.
Mr. Roberts worked in maintenance at the Holston Medical Group, where he enjoyed the friendship of many special people.
Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his father, John A. Roberts; grandparents, John and Vendora Whitaker, W.E. and Martha Roberts; and two children, Jerry Michael Roberts Jr. and Kayla J. Roberts.
Surviving are his mother, Zella Whitaker Roberts, of Kingsport; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Wanda Hickman and husband Govin, Phyllis Epps and husband Perley, both of Kingsport; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John Marion Roberts and wife Frances, Larry Roberts and wife Linda, both of Kingsport; three stepsons, Chad Christian, Mark Christian, Jody Christian; seven grandchildren; 10 nieces and nephews; one special friend, Sharon Godsey, and her children, and grandson, Austin.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. in the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel.
Services will be held Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Garland Tipton, Pastor Keith Barker, Pastor Danny Grizzle, and Rev. Eddie Johnson officiating.

KINGSPORT - Robert Louis Short Jr., 56, of Kingsport, died Saturday morning (Jan. 28, 2006) at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol.
Born in Lynchburg, Va., Bob had resided in the East Tennessee area for the past 20 years. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corp during Vietnam.
Bob had worked for Carl Gregory Chrysler-Jeep in Johnson City and Alley's Dodge in Kingsport for many years.
He was a Baptist and was currently attending Tri-Cities Baptist Church.
His sister, Rebecca Short preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Cindy Short; one daughter, Jordan Short, both of the home; two sons, Cory Short and wife Angela of Thompson Station, Tenn., Justin Short and wife Jessica of Suffolk, Va.; four grandchildren, Claudia, Rebecca, Emily, and Taylor; his parents, Jeanette and Louis Short of Lynchburg, Va.; one sister, Alice Arthur and husband Steve of Lynchburg, Va.; three brothers, Ernest Short of Danville, Va., Ray Short and wife Tina of Great Falls, S.C., Matthew Short and wife Jennifer of Lynchburg, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Walter Lee Stapleton Sr., 84, Richlands, Va.
RICHLANDS, Va. - Mr. Walter Lee (Kat) Stapleton Sr., 84, of Richlands, Va., passed away Saturday (Jan. 28, 2006) in Kingsport following a brief illness.
Born on Jan. 30, 1921 at Holden, W.Va., he was the son of the late William Amel Stapleton I and Lena Bell Sexton Stapleton. He was a 1941 graduate of Logan High School where he lettered in track and football. Kat worked in the coal mining industry for over 40 years and was a retired coal mining operator.
He was a member of the Richlands First Christian Church, the Richlands Masonic Lodge #318 AF&AM, the Kizum Shrine Temple of Roanoke, Va., and was a Kentucky Colonel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae Wellman Stapleton; one son, Walter Lee (Bubba-Kat) Stapleton Jr.; sisters, Barbara, Dorothy, Donna Sue and Shirley; and brothers, Dexter, Franklin, William and Russell.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Wanda Albright and husband David of Kingsport, and Mrs. Sue Jordan and husband Richard of Nashville; one brother, Claude Edward Stapleton and wife Sandy of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; two sisters, Emma Jean DeBord and husband Charles of Holden, W.Va., and Brenda Erickson and husband Paul of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Matthew Peace, Mrs. David (Valerie) Hunter, Stephen Jordan, Chris Jordan and Scott Jordan; great-grandchildren, Samuel, Savannah and Chandler (Bubba); special brother-in-law, Lawrence Ousley of Dingess, W.Va.; special friends, Ellis and Jeanette Cole of Pounding Mill, Va.; and several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today with Masonic services at 8 p.m. in the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff, Va.

GREENEVILLE - Arthur Dale Thornburg Sr., 83, Kingsport Highway, Greeneville, died Sunday (Jan. 29, 2006) at the home of his daughter, Phyllis Hobbs, in Greeneville.
He was retired from the Greene County Road Department and was also a farmer.
He was a member of Bethesda Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lelbert Lee and Zora Mae White Thornburg Sr.; his first wife, Emma Ruth Dotson Thornburg, the mother of his eight children; his second wife, Bonnie Jordan Thornburg; a sister, Leo Charlton; and two brothers, Kenneth and Clarence Thornburg.
Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Lee and Donna Thornburg, Arthur Dale Thornburg Jr., all of Greeneville; six daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Freddy Hobbs, Glenda and Rickey Bowman, Vickie and Daniel Broyles, all of Greene County, Janice Gray of Kingsport, Leatha and Greg Roberts of Kingston, Joyce and James Cagle of Spring City, Tenn.; 20 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, James Thornburg of Greeneville, Lelbert Lee Jr. and Joan Thornburg, of Moline, Ill.; several nieces and nephews.

Mary Helen Young, 66, St. Charles, Va.
ST. CHARLES, Va. - Mary Helen Young was born in Leona Mines, Rt. 1, St. Charles, Va., on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 1939, and departed this life on Saturday (Jan. 28, 2006) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport. She was 66 years old.
She lived in Lee County most of her life and recently lived in Kingsport.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Elick and Laura Young; a sister, Gloria Grice; and a brother, Albert L. Young.
Surviving are five brothers, Hugh D. Young of Williamsburg, Va., James Young of Kingsport, Paul Young of Dryden, Va., Jack Young of Roanoke, Va., and Gary Young of Johnson City. Mary is also survived by three sisters, Edna Dockery of Ft. Blackmore, Va., Ann Gregory of Glade Springs, Va., and Linda McNutt of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 8 p.m. today in the sanctuary of the Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, Va., with Rev. Buford McAmos officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Powell Valley cemetery in Dryden, Va. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go to the cemetery.

Charles "Shorty" Akers, Big Stone Gap, Va.
BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Charles Edward "Shorty" Akers, born Sept. 20, 1923 in Bristol, Va., passed on from this side of the river to the other side where Jesus was waiting for him with outstretched hands on Friday (Jan. 27, 2006) at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Big Stone Gap.
Charles was the youngest child of Joseph and Ruth Akers and was preceded in death by three brothers, Tom, Jim and Bill Akers; two sisters, Missouri Doss and Minnie Moore.
Charles was retired from Bristol Builders in Bristol, Va., and was a truck driver for the town of Appalachia. He served in the Korean War in the U.S. Army in World War II, came to Appalachia and Big Stone Gap in 1971. Charles was a member of the First Christian Church, Appalachia.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Milligan Akers of the home; daughter, Dona Ruthann Akers, Big Stone Gap, and special friend, Ron Falin; son, Brian Akers, Kingsport; brother-in-law, Harry and Eula Milligan, Bristol, Va.; mother-in-law, Lula Milligan; special little furry companion, "Tabby;" several nieces and nephews and friends.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gilliam Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. with Pastor Garrett Lee officiating.

KINGSPORT - Liza B. (Light) Andies, 80, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully Friday (Jan. 27, 2006) at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol after a brief illness.
She attended Gospel Mission Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John R. Light and Della (Carberry) Light. She was married
to the late Burl Robert Andies, who passed away in September of 1984.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Edgar Burl "Buddy" Andies, who passed in July of 1994; her sisters, Velva Littleton and Tina Bell Cox; a brother, Carson Light.
Liza leaves behind her loving family: a daughter, Linda Sue Littleton; granddaughter, Julie Littleton; and a grandson, Josh Littleton; her sister, Lena Mae Hickman; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
