Carl Edward Bernard, 60, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday (Jan. 28, 2006) at Indian Path Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

Arrangements will be announced by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, downtown Kingsport.

Velma Breeding, 76, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Velma Breeding, 76, of Kingsport, passed away Saturday (Jan. 28, 2006).

Survivors and arrangements will be announced later by Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.

Jeanette Carter, 82, Hiltons, Va.
A public memorial service for Jeanette Carter, 82, Hiltons, Va., who went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning (Jan. 22, 2006), will take place at 2 p.m. today at the Carter Family Fold at Hiltons, Va. Everyone wishing to attend these services are asked to arrive by 1:55 p.m.

Pallbearers are Tom Bledsoe, Blanard Collins, Bob Forrester, Raymond McLain, Dr. Joseph Smiddy and John Wolfe.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following non-profit organizations: Mt. Clarice Thelma Davis, 86, Winston-Salem, N.C.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Clarice Thelma Jeffers Davis, 86, passed away on Saturday (Jan. 28, 2006) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

Clarice was born on March 21, 1919, the sixth of nine children, to Dr. Eddie Isaac Jeffers and Mrs. Phronia Bright Jeffers in Greene County.

She received a bachelor's of arts in Education from East Tennessee State University and taught language arts for 24 years in Kingsport. She found great joy in her faith as an active member of Litz Manor Baptist Church in Kingsport and at Knollwood Baptist Church following her move to Winston-Salem in 1992.

Clarice had a vibrant, lively spirit and abundant energy. She was well known for her wonderful cooking, baking, candy making, and gardening. She created heirlooms for her family through knitting, sewing, and quilting. She will truly be missed by her family and all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, William Chester Davis; and seven of her siblings.

Survivors include her four children, Ronald J. Davis and his wife Evalynn of Yadkinville, Judith D. Kuhn, C. Inez Davis, William L. Davis and his wife Jennifer, all of Winston-Salem; five granddaughters, Rhonda Davis and her husband Roger Pait of Clemmons, J. Carol Thompson and her husband Mitch Lovett of Durham, Rachel Kuhn Stinehelfer and her husband Daniel of Durham, Amber Hallman Ryan and her husband Shawn of Richmond, Va., and Holly Hallman of Winston-Salem; and four great-grandchildren, Anna Claire, Ella, Jack and Henry. She is also survived by her brother, Rex Jeffers and his wife Helen of Greeneville; and as well as many sisters-in-law and brothers-in- law, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of WFU Baptist Medical Center for all of their care and support over the last ten weeks.

A funeral service celebrating her life was held at Knollwood Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006.

The family received friends following the service.

A memorial service will be held at East Lawn Memorial Park in Kingsport at 2 p.m. Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Senior Adult Ministry of Knollwood Baptist Church, 330 Knollwood Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27104 or to the Chester and Clarice Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund at Carson-Newman College, P.O. Box 71970, Jefferson City, TN 37760.

Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Davis family.

Sam J. Davis, 90, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Graveside services for Sam J. Davis, 90, of Rogersville, who passed away Thursday afternoon (Jan. 26, 2006), will be held 2 p.m. today at Highland Cemetery.

Colboch-Price Funeral Home in Rogersville is in charge of the arrangements.

Ada Ruth Sellers Greer, 89, Surgoinsville.
Services for Ada Ruth Sellers Greer, 89, 101 Reynolds Ave., Surgoinsville, who passed away Friday morning (Jan. 27, 2006), will be held at 4 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church of Surgoinsville with Rev. Brad Smith officiating.

Interment will follow in Hawkins County Memorial Gardens.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call anytime at the residence of her daughter, Betty Jean Greer Sandidge and from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the church.

Colboch-Price Funeral Home in Rogersville is in charge of the arrangements.

Sharon Hutson, 48, Church Hill.
CHURCH HILL - A musical celebration of life service for Sharon Hutson, 48, who passed away peacefully Saturday (Jan. 14, 2006), will be held at 3 p.m. today at the First Broad Street United Methodist Church, Church Circle, Kingsport.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send memorial contributions to M.D. Anderson Brain and Spine research, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston Tex. 77030.

Interment was held on Jan. 22, 2006 at the Maple Hill cemetery in Huntsville, Ala.

Richard Charles Jordan, 56, Coeburn, Va.
COEBURN, Va. - Richard Charles Jordan, 56, died Friday (Jan. 27, 2006) at Russell County Medical Center, Lebanon, Va.

He was born in Bristol, Tenn., son of the late Walter Jordan. He was employed by Maxxim Rebuild Company of Coeburn, Va., and a former employee of Collins Equipment Company of Norton, Va.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Bowers; and two brothers, Walter "Dubo" Jordan and Lee Jordan.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Jordan of Coeburn; one daughter, Shannon Jenkins and husband Jerimiah, of Bristol, Tenn.; two sons, Jason Jordan of Bristol, Tenn., and Jeremy Jordan of the home; his mother, Ruth Jordan of Bristol, Tenn.; two sisters, Roselyn Brown of Johnson City, and Lois Hagy of Bristol, Tenn.; two brothers, Jack Jordan of Greenville, Va., and Bobby Jordan of Bristol, Tenn.; one grandson, Cooper Jenkins of Bristol, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Va.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Scott Addison officiating.

Committal service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Va. The family will meet at the funeral home and go in procession to the cemetery, leaving at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Pallbearers will be Shayne Harnden, Jerimiah Jenkins, Clyde Bowers, Bryan Hughes, Hal Wohlford and Dean Janis.

Eula Ethel Justice, 84, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Eula Ethel Justice, 84, of Rogersville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday (Jan. 28, 2006) at her home.

She was born June 12, 1921 at her home in Hawkins County. She was a long-standing member of Prices Grove Baptist Church, and a loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Eldridge Justice after 44 years of marriage; parents, Clarence and Lilly Looney; brother, Junior Looney; and sister, Bill O'Shea.

Surviving are her eight children, Reece and June Collins, Mary Morelock, Ken Collins, Louise Crane Ledford, Betty Lawson, Jean Kirkpatrick and Wanda Garrison; 27 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hubert and Warren Looney; one sister, Kathren Sizemore.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Rex Cole officiating.

Interment will follow in the Courtney Cemetery.

Ralph Lane, 49, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Ralph Lane, 49, entered into rest Thursday (Jan. 26, 2006) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was born in Scott County, Va., on June 13, 1956.

Mr. Lane served in the U.S. Army and also retired from Eastman Chemical Company.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Ira Lane; and brother, Bobby Lane.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Lane, Gate City; mother, Beulah Lane, Gate City; one son, James Trevor Lane, Kingsport; and stepson, Christopher Landon, Kingsport; sisters and brother-in-law, Linda and Glen Sanders, Hiltons, Va., and Martha Kendrick, Gate City; brothers, Roy Lee Lane and wife, Wanda, Weber City, Va., Jimmy and Teddy Lane, both of Gate City, and Tony Lane, Kingsport; several nieces, nephews and lots of good friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his mother.

Services will be at 8 p.m. today in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. George Willis officiating.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Lane Cemetery, Midway community. The family will be meeting at the cemetery for graveside services.

Pallbearers will be Timmy John Starnes, Leonard Short, David "Pudgy" Starnes, Greg Hillman, Ray Carico and Fred Kendrick.

Honorary pallbearers will be Perry Sanders, Michael "Chainsaw" Baldwin and Paul "PeeWee" Baldwin.

Elizabeth H. Light, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Elizabeth H. Light, of Kingsport, passed away early Saturday (Jan. 28, 2006) morning at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was born in Hancock County and resided in Kingsport most of her life. Elizabeth retired in 1986 from the Tennessee Eastman Chemical Company after 43 years of service.

Mrs. Light was a member of Mt. View United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Metford Light; parents, James and Dora Hurd; one brother, Roy Hurd; two sisters, Rettie Hurd Alsup and Ruby Hurd Hall.

Surviving are two sisters, Hazel Blalock and Juanita Horton, both of Kingsport; three brothers, Conley Hurd of Kingsport, James M. Hurd Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C., and Charles Hurd of Kyles Ford; and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport, or anytime at the home of her sister, Juanita Horton, 1617 High Point Ave., Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Luke Conway officiating.

Graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Nephews will be serving as pallbearers.

Hamlett-Dobson is serving the Light family.

Bill Mayfield, Brandon, Fla.
BRANDON, Fla. - U.S.A.F. Col. (Ret.) Bill Mayfield passed away Wednesday (Jan. 25, 2006) in Tampa, Fla.

He was a U.S. Air Force Colonel (Ret.) of 35 years, having served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam as a fighter pilot, test pilot and Jolly Green pilot. Following his retirement, he served as a missionary pilot in Haiti and the Bahamas for four years.

He held an honorary doctorate degree in Literary Works from Jacksonville (Fla.) Seminary College.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Gertrude (Sosh) Mayfield.

Surviving are his wife, Robbie Brickey Mayfield of Brandon, Fla.; three daughters, Mika Mayfield of Brandon, Fla., and Pamela Hall and Deborah Harbison, both of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap, Va.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Spirit and Truth Worship Center, Big Stone Gap, with the Rev. Kenneth Sturgill and the Rev. Johnny Flanary officiating.

Military honors, by the Pope A.F.B. Honor Guard, Fayetteville, N.C., will follow in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.

Robbie Patterson, 38, Big Stone Gap, Va.
BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Robert M. "Robbie" Patterson, 38, passed away Friday (Jan. 27, 2006) at home after an extended illness.

He was born in Gary, Ind., and lived most of his life in Appalachia, Va., and Big Stone Gap. He was a former employee of Appalachian Heating & Cooling in Big Stone Gap.

He was a member of West End Baptist Church in Big Stone Gap.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Janie Belle Patterson; and a brother, David Allen Patterson.

Surviving are three sons, Michael Patterson and Justin Delph, both of Big Stone Gap, and Trevor Hobbs of Gate City, Va.; four daughters, Amber Lane and Chasity Lane, both of Big Stone Gap, Keena Patterson and Crystal Fannon, both of Appalachia, Va.; two grandchildren, Dominic and Kalea; his father, Rudy M. Patterson Sr. of Scottsboro, Ala.; two brothers, Rudy Patterson of Eolia, Ky., and Frank Patterson of Coeburn, Va.; one sister, Melissa Huff of Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap, Va.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Pat Rasnake officiating.

Committal services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at American Legion Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday.

James Clifford Pease, 81, Kingsport.
Services for James Clifford Pease, 81, of Sevier Street, Kingsport, who went to be with the Lord at 2 a.m. Friday, will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the Scott County Funeral Home Chapel, Weber City, Va., with Pastor Marlin Jaynes officiating.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Committal services will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va. Those wishing to attend the graveside services are asked to meet at the cemetery by 9:55 a.m. Monday.
