John R. Owens Jr., 46, Surgoinsville.
SURGOINSVILLE - John R. Owens Jr., 46, of Surgoinsville, passed away Sunday (Feb. 5, 2006) at Wellmont-Lonesome Pine Hospital following a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's disease.
Mr. Owens was born in Kingsport, but grew up in the Surgoinsville area. He was a graduate of Surgoinsville High School, going on to work as a property manager. John was a member of Phipps Bend Baptist Church.
John had a great appreciation for the outdoors and working with all of nature's beauty and he also enjoyed traveling.
He was preceded in death by his father, John R. Owens Sr.
Surviving are his mother, Ruth Owens, of Surgoinsville; cousins, Kathryn Ford, Melinda Hood, Barbara Johnson, Brent Salyer, and Jason Johnson; and an uncle, R.W. Ford and wife, Virginia.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty Hill cemetery with the Rev. Robert L. "Junior" Parker and the Rev. George Winegar officiating.

CHURCH HILL - Alberta Lee Chapman Pennington, 79, of 5308 Stanley Valley Road, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday (Feb. 5, 2006) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Chapman was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and was a member of the Valley Center United Methodist Church. She was a retired employee of Tennessee Eastman working in the Yarn department during the 40's and 50's.
She was a wonderful wife and homemaker, mommy, mamaw and friend. She was known as Bert. She was a great friend to many young people throughout the years of raising her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Pennington; daughter, Bobbie Jean Cox; her parents, Isaac and Mary Lou Sandidge Chapman; sister, Dorris Gibbons.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Kathy Pennington, Church Hill; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Mike Johnson, Church Hill; six grandchildren, Susan Jones and husband, Brad, Robbie Cox, Josh Pennington, Jennifer Manis and husband, Brandon, Holly Johnson and Cody Johnson; son-in-law, Freddie Cox, Kingsport; one sister, Bobbie Isaac Trent, Church Hill; aunt, Bessie Lee, Church Hill; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

BRISTOL, Tenn. - Kimberley Golden Sills, 47, of Bristol, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Friday (Feb. 3, 2006) in Bristol, Va.
She was born in Wise County, Va., and had lived in Bristol for years. She was a graduate of Mountain Empire College. Kimberley was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Wehunt and Loretta Elliott.
She is survived by the father of her children, Randy Jackson of Blountville; her daughter, Randi Minnick and husband Matthew of Blountville; her son, Chad Sills and wife Amanda of Abingdon, Va. ; four grandchildren, Dalton Minnick, Noah Sills, Chad Sills Jr. and Averi Webb; four sisters, Betty Davis of Appalachia, Va., Barbara Gibson of Big Stone Gap, Va., Doris Sproles of Knoxville, and Helen Walker, Raleigh, N.C.; her brother, Bobby Dean Aikens of Kentucky; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Chapel, Big Stone Gap, Va.

Mr. Snapp was a lifelong resident of Church Hill and was a member of McFerrin United Methodist Church. He was a retired employee of Associated Transport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Sallie Lou Bailey Snapp; two brothers, Elmer Snapp and Kenneth Snapp; one sister, Nina Snapp.
He is survived by his wife, Ottie Skelton Snapp, Church Hill; one daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Sam Mays, Church Hill; one son, David Snapp, Mount Carmel; one granddaughter, Karen Bowen and husband, Tony; one great- grandson, Trey Bowen; two sisters and brother-in-law, Sue Bradley, Church Hill, Jo Ann and Tommy Fugate, Kingsport; four brothers and sisters-in-law, John W. and Margaret Snapp Jr., Gary and Mary Snapp, and Howard and Lucille Snapp, all of Church Hill, Jimmy and Jo Ann Snapp, Blountville; several nieces and nephews.

POUND, Va. - Paul Eugene Vanover entered into rest on Saturday (Feb. 4, 2006) at Mountain View Regional Medical Center, Norton, Va., with his family by his side.
Mr. Vanover was a retired miner. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sally and Emory Thacker; his first wife, Marie Vanover; a stepson, Sidney Hensley.
Surviving are his wife, Lotus Vanover of Pound; mother, Marie Ventro of Pound; daughters, Tammy (Dean) Robinson and Barbara (Rondall) Mullins, both of Pound, Gail (Mark) Greear and Gearldine (Gary) Garner, both of North Carolina; sons, Mitchell (Helen) Vanover, Ages, Ky., Stacy (Della) Vanover, Coeburn, Va., Scott (Mary Ann), Keokee, Va., Patrick Hensley, North Carolina, Clancy Hensley, Pound, and Tim (Misty) Mullins, Pound; sisters, Mona Baker, Pound, Lois Ventro, Big Stone Gap, Va., Joyce Newsome, Dorton, Ky., Mary Ellen Vanover; brothers, Richard Ventro and Michael Ventro, both of Pound; 23 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a very special sister-in-law, Winky Treadwell "My Little Sissy, " and several nieces and nephews.

BLOUNTVILLE - Pamela (Bright) Waye, 51, of Blountville, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her family on Sunday(Feb. 5, 2005) at her residence after a hard fight with cancer.
Pam was born June 1, 1954 in Sullivan County and lived most all her life in Kingsport, residing in Blountville her last five years. She was of the Holiness faith and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Worley Bright and Grace Dunn Bright; a sister, Lorraine Bright Necessary; three brothers, Sammy Bright, Bobby Bright and Darrell Bright; and a special uncle, Tom Bright.
Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Bob Waye, who was always there for Pam, loving her and caring for her during her illness; her son, Bobby Waye and wife Melissa of Kingsport. Bobby was a very devoted son, who loved his mother dearly; three grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Alisha, Andrew and Alex; two brothers, Amos Bright and wife Christine of Blountville and Jerry Bright and wife Jean of Rogersville; sister-in-law, Linda Spivey and husband Bob of Kingsport. Linda was Pam's best friend and Pam loved her like a sister; sister-in-law, Romelda Bright of Kingsport; as well as several nieces and nephews. Pam is also survived by her second family, the Wayes, she loved them all.

The family would like to thank the Bristol Hospice House nurses for all the kindness and care they gave Pam during her time of need. A special thank you to Connie Creamer for all her help, physically and emotionally, that she had so willingly given to Pam and who was always in Pam's prayers. Pam was blessed to have had the best neighbors in the world. Thank you all for the love, help and support you gave to her and her family all through her illness.

GRAY - Mamie Rigsby Arnold, 74, of Gray, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord at 3:35 a.m. Friday (Feb. 3, 2006) at Greystone Healthcare Center following an extended illness.
Born in Washington County, Tenn., on April 14, 1931, a daughter of the late Charles and Myrtle Rigsby, she has resided in this area her entire life.
Mrs. Arnold was a member of Pilgram's Rest Baptist Church.
She will be remembered as a precious angel sent from heaven. A loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
Survivors include her husband, Winfield P. Arnold of the home; three daughters, Judy Garland and husband, Robert of Gray, Connie Norton of Kingsport, and Angela Patrick of Gray; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many sisters and brothers; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday at East Lawn Funeral Home and at other hours at 305 Chesterfield Drive, Kingsport and 163 Dove Lane, Gray.
A celebration of her homecoming will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel with the Rev. James P. Hoskins officiating.

Faye Breeding, 65, Castlewood, Va.
CASTLEWOOD, Va. - Evelyn Faye Breeding, 65, went home to be with the Lord Thursday (Feb. 2, 2006) in the Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born July 22, 1940, a daughter of the late Frank R. Salyer and the late Ebbie Gibson Salyer, she was a retired employee of the Russell County Schools working as a library clerk at Copper Creek and Oak Grove Elementary Schools. She was a member of the Virginia Education Association.
She was a member of Grassy Creek Church and attended House of Prayer in Nicklesville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Anna Mae Porter; two grandsons, Matthew Thomas Johnson and William (Will) David Breeding; and one step-grandson, Herbert Wayne Gibson.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, George B. Breeding; two daughters, Sheila Gibson and husband, Walter (Hoppy), Dungannon, Va., and Sharon Bailey and husband, Lester, Castlewood; two sons, Darrell Breeding, Castlewood, and David Breeding and wife, Lisa, Danville, Ky.; five grandchildren, Georgette Street and husband Randy, Brandon Johnson, Neil Robinson, Jennifer Robinson and Nathaniel Breeding; step-grandchildren, Dawn Sims and husband Buddy, John Bailey, Bo Bailey and wife Jessica and Doretta Gibson; three great-grandchildren; 14 step-great grandchildren; also two nieces and one nephew.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral service chapel with the Rev. Eugene Burke and the Rev. Henry Wayne Meade officiating.
