KINGSPORT - Gertrude B. Toncray, 84, died Monday (April 10, 2006) at Asbury Center.
The daughter of the late Gertrude Clark Toncray and the late George W. Toncray, Sr., Mrs. Toncray was born in Unicoi County but lived most of her life in Johnson City. She had graduated from ETSU with a BS degree and did graduate work in English at the University of Georgia.
She had retired from a position as research assistant with the Department of Interior. She was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church where she had served as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Altar Guild, chairman of the altar flowers, and lay Eucharistic minister. She had served as a member of Foster Care Review Board for Human Services Department and had volunteered at the VA Medical Library and the Salvation Army.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Toncray was preceded in death by one sister, Lucy King; two brothers, George Toncray, Jr. and John Toncray.
Surviving is one nephew, George Toncray, Kingsport; and four nieces, Rachel Tiller, Hilton Head, S.C., Carol Sharez, Trav Johnson and Lucy Stull Parrish, of Georgia.
The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker Funeral Home from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Happy Valley Memorial Park. The Rev. Maggie Zeller will officiate.

Graveside services for Ray James Baldwin, 83, Clinchport, Va., who passed away Thursday (April 13, 2006), will be held today at 3 p.m. at the Dockery Family cemetery in Rye Cove.

KINGSPORT - Wilma Virginia (Allred) Bledsoe, 76, Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday (April 15, 2006) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was born in Pontiac, Mich., and moved to the Kingsport area around 1948. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her second husband, James M. Bledsoe; her first husband, Preston Walter Crawford; her parents, Alton Frank and Ruth Lucille Wesson Allred; a grandson, Bryan Crawford; and two sisters, Dorothy Alexander and Joyce Peters.
Surviving are her son, Walter Crawford and his wife Carol, of Skippers, Va.; her sister, Roberta Sue Barton of California; brother, Frank Edward Allred of San Diego, Calif.; a niece, Sue Alexander of Illinois; along with a host of good neighbors and close friends.
Calling hours are from 12 noon to 1 p.m on Monday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m in the funeral home chapel with Pastor David E. Castle officiating.
Burial will follow in East Lawn Cemetery, Kingsport.

BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Edith M. Callahan, born Dec. 27, 1919 in Stonega, Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday (April 13, 2006).
Edith was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church since 1949.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Callahan, Sr.; and daughter-in-law, Eleanor C. Callahan.
Survivors include three sons, Ralph E. Callahan, Jr. (Gene) and wife Ava, Jenks, Okla., John D. Callahan, Jonesville, Va., and David P. Callahan and wife Sherrie, Soddy-Daisy, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Cathy Torres and husband Ricky, Leann Benedict and husband Raymond, Christi Williams and husband Jamie, and Patrick Callahan; four great-grandchildren, Dakota Torres, Madison Torres, Braden Callahan Benedict and Baylee Shaye Williams; three sisters, Virginia Willingham, Frances Bryant and Anna Peters; several nieces, nephews, friends, and best friends, Clara Bolling and Gail and Judy Lundy.
Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. today in the chapel of Holding Funeral Home with Tony Gilley, Dr. Charles Barrier, Eddie Mckinney and Walter Kress officiating.

JONESVILLE, Va. - William Grant Cope, 79, was born on February 20, 1927 and died on Saturday (April 15, 2006) at the Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, Tenn.
He was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church, a life-long resident of Jonesville, Va.; a farmer and school bus driver from which he retired after 45 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess Cope and Della (Snodgrass) Cope; a wife, Ocie Moore Cope; and an infant son, Billy Wayne Cope; three brothers, Grover, Warren and Nelson Cope.
He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 25 years, Betty Cope; five children and in-laws, Bo Cope and wife Sherry, Lawrence Cope and wife Wilma, Thelma Hicks and husband Ronnie, Kathy and husband Kenny Thomas, Julia Wyrick and husband Ron, all of Jonesville, Va.; eight grandchildren, Tracy Cope, Kristy Cope, Kelly Cope, Nathan Cope, Adam Cope, Dough Wyrick, Sharmian Foster and Mary Helen Marcum; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Glen Cope, Jonesville, Va., and Cecil Cope, Baltimore, Md.; nieces, nephews, many relatives and friends.
He loved his family and they loved and cherished him in return.

SURGOINSVILLE - Kathryn Faye "Patty" Henderson, 68, Surgoinsville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday (April 14, 2006) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief, courageous battle with cancer.
She was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County. Patty retired from TRW in Rogersville in 1994.
She was a very active member of Amis Chapel United Methodist Church, and also belonged to the United Methodist Church Women (UMW).
Mrs. Henderson was preceded in death by her mother, Clara Bean Edens; and her father, George Edens.
Kathyrn "Patty" Henderson is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Donald Henderson; two sons, Rick Henderson, Surgoinsville, and Keith Henderson and his wife, Tina, Church Hill; two granddaughters, Jena Henderson and Makala Henderson; two sisters, Barbara Patterson and her husband Tom, and Helen Caldwell, all of Church Hill; a brother, Howard Edens, Surgoinsville; along with several nieces and nephews.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - William Arthur Hord, 73, Buffalo, N.Y., departed this life Thursday (April 6, 2006) in Buffalo.
Mr. Hord was born in Kingsport and served with the U.S. Army while in the military.
Mr. Hord was a member of several gun clubs and shooting association, Elks Lodge #1502, pride of western New York, and served as Director of Beauty and Talent for many years.
Arthur's memory and gift of life will be cherished by his wife of 54 years, Inez R. Hord; one daughter, Gloria; one son, Harrison Evans Jr.; three grandchildren, Dwight William, Warren Arther Harrison, and Asia Nicole Evans; two brothers, Hugh K., of Melbourne, Fla., and Bob G.
