Mildred Powers Davis, 92, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Mildred Powers Davis, 92, died on Thursday (April 20, 2006) at her residence following a brief illness.

She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1949. Mildred was born in Wise, Va., moving to the Kingsport area in the fifties. She was a homemaker, whose love was her family, and was a member of Gardener's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband and father of her eight children, Steve Davis; her parents, James and Myrtle Wheatley Powers; two brothers, Robert and Ray Powers; and a granddaughter, Jamie Shaimane Davis.

She is survived by her four daughters, Patricia "Patty" Turner of Kingsport, Rhetta Edwards and husband Jack of Gate City, Linda Miller and husband Pete of Kingsport and Kathy Babb and husband Paul of Gate City; four sons, Jim Davis and wife Nancy of Mount Carmel, Ron Davis and wife Gerrie of Kingsport, Bob Davis and wife Diane of Kingsport and Nicky Davis and wife Mary of Church Hill; three granddaughters; six grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Bernice Fritz; one niece and four nephews.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Don Fritz and Elder Allen Hensley officiating.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Walnut Chapel Church Cemetery. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:55 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Walnut Chapel Church cemetery fund, c/o Jack Edwards, 13906 E. Carters Valley Road, Gate City, Va 24251.

Myrtle M. Edens, 96, Ben Hur, Va.
BEN HUR, Va. - Myrtle M. (Cheek) Edens, 96, of Ben Hur, Va., passed away Thursday (April 20, 2006) at Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va.

Myrtle was a lifelong resident of Lee County, Va. She was a homemaker and loved making quilts and working in her garden. She had a smile for everyone she met and brought happiness to lots of people.

She was a member of the Jonesville Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard F. Edens; one son, Phil Edens; her parents, James A. and Virginia (Farley) Cheek; two brothers; three sisters; two sons-in-law; and one daughter-in-law.

Survivors include one son, Alfred Edens of Gate City, Va.; three daughters, Lena Edens of Ben Hur, Va., Frances Thomas of Jonesboro, Ind., and Evada Foor of Jonesboro, Ind.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; special neighbors, Edna Oaks and Allan and Renee Wilder; special caregiver, Allyson Clouse, who was affectionately called "adopted granddaughter" of Rose Hill, Va.; three nieces; and one nephew.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Jonesville, Va.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Minister E.R. Hall officiating.

Burial will follow in the Millers Chapel cemetery in Jonesville, Va.

Arney-Mullins Funeral Home of Jonesville, Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Sue Fleenor, 59, Dryden, Va.
DRYDEN, Va. - Sue Fleenor, 59, passed away April 20, 2006 at U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville.

She was a lifelong resident of Lee County and was the daughter of the late Paul and Goldie Bruner Fleenor.

She attended Gilbert Memorial Methodist Church in Woodway.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Kingery and by one brother, Bill Fleenor.

Surviving are two sisters, Peggy Fleenor, of the home and Mary Ann Mullins, Woodway, Va.; one brother, Roger Fleenor and wife, Chanda of Pennington Gap, Va.; four nieces, Pam Dillman and husband James of Dryden, Va., Sherry Minton and husband James and Rhonda Bishop, all of Maryville, Tenn., and Stephanie Reynolds of Roanoke, Va.; one nephew, Steve Harley and wife Leslie of Indianapolis, Ind.; eight great-nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Sturgill Funeral Home, Pennington Gap, Va.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. David Jones officiating.

Interment will follow in the Lee Memorial Gardens.

Gladys O. Forsha, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Gladys Overby Forsha, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on Saturday (April 15, 2006) after a brief illness.

Gladys was born in Bon Aqua, Tenn. on Dec. 4, 1919. She married a career soldier in 1944 and lived throughout the U.S. and abroad during 22 years of military service. Upon her husband's retirement from the Army, they became long-term residents of Kingsport, and she worked as a medical secretary for several physicians. She was a talented quilt maker and also raised and showed award-winning Himalayan cats with her husband. Gladys and Ken returned to Kingsport in 2004 due to health reasons after living in Fort Myers, Fla. for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Major Kenneth D. Forsha.

Surviving include two daughters and their husbands, Rita and W. Lynn Perry of Kingsport and Linda and Michael McIntyre of Ringgold, Ga.; two sons, Kenneth D. Forsha, II of Bristol and Jerry D. Forsha of Ft. Myers, Fla.; five grandchildren, Melissa McIntyre, Melanie Kuykendall, Michelle McIntyre and her husband Andrew Farmer, Patrick McIntyre and Kristopher Forsha; and two great-grandchildren, Jamie and Brittany Kuykendall.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.

A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Hugh Thompson officiating.

Private burial will take place at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tenn.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in honor of Gladys Forsha be made to the Sullivan County Humane Society, P.O. Box 654, Blountville, Tenn. 37617.

Harold G. Frazier, 83, Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY - Harold G. Frazier, 83, died Thursday (April 20, 2006) at his residence.

A native of Nickelsville, Va., he was the son of the late T.B. and Ada Dacy Minton Frazier. He was a member of Clark Street Baptist Church. After 27 years of service, Mr. Frazier was retired as purchasing agent from Smith-Higgins. He also retired from Jacobs Creek Job Corp.

Mr. Frazier honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, having received a Bronze Star and he served in the Third Army under General George Patton.

Mr. Frazier was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid golfer and loved the outdoors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lou Ellen Wampler and an infant brother, Lawrence Frazier.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 62 years of marriage, Gertrude M. Frazier of Johnson City; a daughter and son-in-law, Myra and John Testa of Melbourne, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger Harold and Linda Frazier of Johnson City and Ted. M. and Patti Frazier of Gray; three sisters, Hazel Boatwright of Elizabethton, Carmen Bond of Gate City, Va., and Peggy Fields of Nickelsville, Va.; five grandchildren, Heather Frazier, Heidi Frazier, Matthew Frazier, Teddi Frazier and Cody Frazier; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Herb Haynes, Robert Webster, Clarence Chase, Lynn Feathers, Burl Crawford, Lester Wilson, Perry Counts and Lyman Fulton.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City or anytime at the residence.

Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Sunrise Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Mike Anglin officiating.

The committal and graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Cody Frazier and Matthew Frazier and nephews, Gary Bond, Michael Boatwright, J. E. Montgomery, Mark Fields, Tony Forrest, and Ronnie Wampler.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Medical Center Home Care & Hospice Services, 101 Med Tech Parkway, Johnson City, Tenn. 37604; American Heart Association, 208 Sunset Drive #521, Johnson City, Tenn. 37604; or to Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, 375 Homewood Road, Los Angeles, Calif. 90049.

Franklin K. Gentry, 58, Wise, Va.
WISE, Va. - Franklin K. "Little Rock" Gentry, 58, went to be with the Lord and to rest in peace Wednesday (April 19, 2006) at his home.

He was a dedicated worker for Danny Large Trucking for 30 years, a U.S. Army veteran, serving proudly in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1968 in the 9th Infantry Division, an avid sports fan, loving the Dallas Cowboys, golf, fishing and NASCAR.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert D. Gentry; and a brother, Kelly Dean Gentry.

Surviving are his loving wife of 33 years, Patricia Sue Hubbard Gentry; three sons, Shane Dean Gentry and Bobby Dee Gentry of Wise, Va., and Matthew Cale Gentry of Coeburn, Va.; a daughter, Season Kaye Gentry of Norton, Va.; his mother, Oma Gentry of Wise, Va.; three brothers, Gail Gentry and wife, Aldis, Tim Gentry and wife, Patricia, and Ronnie Gentry and wife, Pat, all of Wise, Va.; five sisters, Karen Yates and husband, Eddie of Decatur, Ga., Sandy Mullins and husband, E.J., Pansy Bevins and husband, Gene, Sherry Robinson and Nicole Williams and husband, Michael, all of Wise, Va.; three grandchildren, Jacob, Mason and Madison; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Sunday at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, Va.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Robert Fultz, Jr., officiating.

Military rites will be held following the funeral service.

Burial will follow in the Tempest Branch Cemetery, Coeburn, Va.

Cleo Hibbitts Hayes, 76, Wise, Va.
WISE, Va. - Cleo Hibbitts Hayes, 76, passed away Wednesday (April 19, 2006) in Columbus, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Hayes; granddaughters, Heather Rose and Becca Hayes; her parents, Duran and Drucilla Hibbitts; a sister, Ova Ratliff; and brothers, Walter, Bailey, Frank, Givens, and James Hibbitts.

Surviving are two sons, Bill Jr. (DeLaine) Hayes and Tim Hayes; a daughter, Sandra (Jeff) Swartz; grandchildren, Melissa, Jeffrey, Sarah (Steve), Molly, Ryan, Phil, Jackson, and Lauren; and great-grandchildren, Hailey and Tony.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Chapel in Big Stone Gap, Va.

Services will be conducted at the chapel with Rev. Billy Hibbitts officiating.

Burial will follow.

Steven Allen Hoard, 51, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Steven Allen Hoard, 51, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (April 19, 2006) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, after a brief illness.

He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church, graduate of Dobyn-Bennett High School, attended Morristown College and was a concrete finisher.

He was preceded in death by his parents James Hoard and Ms. Mildred Hoard; grandmother, Ms. Lizzie Jane Simpson; and a brother, James Hoard, Jr.

Survivors include his daughters, Ms. Christy Steel, Ms. Rebecca Comage, Ms. Chasity Bell; three granddaughters; a faithful companion, Ms. Kathy Carpenter; two step-daughters, Ms. Anissa Carpenter and Ms. Jennifer Carpenter; four sisters, Ms. Deborah Butts, Ms. Janet (Grover) Miller, Ms. Donna Gail (Henry) Perry, all of Kingsport, and Ms. Brenda Woods, Atlanta, Ga.

Services will be conducted at Powerful New Life on Monday at 12 noon with Elder Hugh Hale officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the hour of service.

Interment will follow in Holston View Cemetery, Weber City.

Ruth Kersey, 75, Kingsport.
Graveside services for Ada "Ruth" Kersey, 75, Kingsport, who went to be with her Lord on Wednesday (April 19, 2006), will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Magnolia Cemetery, Rogersville. It is requested that the family and friends meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews.

Myrtle Richardson, 91, Stonega, Va.
STONEGA, Va. - Myrtle Cosby Richardson, 91, passed away Friday (April 21, 2006) at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap, Va.

John "Randy" Richmond, 58, Mobile, Ala.
MOBILE, Ala. - John R. "Randy" Richmond, 58, a native of Kingsport and a longtime resident of Mobile, Ala., died at his home in Mobile on April 17, 2006.

Randy was a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran and an employee of Securitas Security Systems.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret G. Richmond; and sister-in-law, Leslie H. Richmond.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Brown Richmond of Mobile; his father, Thomas Ray Richmond, Sr. of Mount Carmel; brothers, Thomas R. (Mary) Richmond, Jr. of Charleston, W.Va., Samuel J. Richmond of Kingsport and Frank Toby (Vickie) Richmond of Bluff City; sister, Thyra Anna Richmond (Fred) Bowlin of Mount Carmel; sister-in-law, Judith B. Kling; brother-in-law, Frank E. Brown, Jr., both of Mobile; several nieces, nephews, aunts and other relatives.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at the American Legion cemetery in Big Stone Gap, Va., on Sunday, April 23, 2006, at 4 p.m. Services will be performed by the Rev. Dr. Ted W. Hagen II.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105 or Odyssey Health Care, 2800 Dauphin St., Mobile, Ala. 36606.
