Barbara M. Landauer
Dated: April 05 1999
Landauer, Barbara M., age 85 of Seymour, died April 5, 1999. She was born November 21, 1913 in Halifax, Canada. She was preceded in death by parents Jack and Margaret Landauer and one older brother, Lawrence. Miss Landauer was a registered nurse for more than thirty years with the Veteran's Administration where she served in administrative positions. She was on the faculty of Indiana University. She was Chief of Nursing Education at the V.A. Hospital, Albany, NY. She also served as the Chief Nurse at the V.A. Hospitals in both Asheville, NC and Coatesville, PA. Prior to her experience in the government, she taught at Beth Israel Hospital, Newark, NJ and at Binghamton General Hospital, Binghamton, NY. Her contributions to nursing were numerous. During World War II she set up programs for the Cadet Nurse Corp. and also taught in these programs. Major interests were preparing registered nurses to serve in various specialties including intensive care. With the onset of the Community College Nurse programs, she worked with several programs in New York. She attended New York University and received a B.S. in Education. Her interest in the health phase of sports led her to Yale University, New Haven, CT where she received a Masters of Nursing. She also attained a Masters in Nursing Administration from Columbia University, New York. She was an active member of the American Nurses Association, and has published in the American Journal of Nursing. She also was a member of the National League of Nursing Education, Nursing Research and the Red Cross Nursing Corp. Miss Landauer retired in 1975 and joined her friend, Anna Schmidt. They traveled for three years throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Orient. In 1978, they purchased a home in Seymour, TN. where they became active supporters of the Lady Vols and members of the BoostHer Club serving on the Advisory Committee for several years. In 1992, they were selected for the BoostHer Club Hall of Fame. The Landauer/Schmidt endowment fund supports two scholarships in basketball, one in golf and one in softball. Her other interests were in the McClung Museum, Ijams, the Humane Society, Abused Women, Talking Books for Sevierville, Library and a scholarship for Seymour High School. Services will be held at 7:30 PM on Wednesday April 7, 1999 at Berry Funeral Home, South Knoxville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society, 800 Millwood Road, Knoxville, TN 37920. Friends will be received 7:00 - 7:30 PM Wednesday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Hwy.

John S. Hudson

Hudson, John S. - age 70, of South Knoxville, formerly of Kingston, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 1999. Employed at Ted Russell Ford. Preceded in death by brother Oliver Hudson. Mable O. Stephens

Stephens, Mable O. - age 96, of Knoxville, passed away Friday, April 9, 1999. Member of Second United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by husband Roscoe F. Stephens, Sr., and son Roscoe F. Stephens, Jr. Sons: Bob Stephens, Knoxville; and Kenneth Stephens and wife Jan, Ft. Worth, TX Funeral service 8:00 PM Tuesday, Berry Chapel. Rev. Gerald McFarland officiating. Interment 11:00 AM Wednesday, Woodlawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6:30 - 8:00 PM Tuesday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Hwy.

Mavis Patricia Couch

Couch, Mavis Patricia, age 50 of Knoxville, passed away Friday, April 9, 1999. Survived by brother, Gary Couch; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Eddie Cate; special nephew, Jacon Cate; sister in law, Joyce Couch; niece and nephew, Michelle and Scott Couch and many dear friends. Mary Nell Hackney Freeman

Freeman, Mary Nell Hackney, age 56 of Knoxville passed away Saturday April 10, 1999. Member of the church of Christ, preceded in death by father, James Howard Hackney and daughter, Patricia Anne Freeman. Left behind is her husband, Clark B, Freeman; children, Mary Carol and husband, Matthew Winkler and daughter, Patricia Dianne Winkler; Shannon Gail and husband James Roberts. Other children: Tabatha Freeman, Amanda Freeman, Eric Freeman and Chase Freeman. Also remaining is her mother, Augusta Lillian Hackney; sister, Anna Claire and husband, George Rawlins, sister, Janet Scott and husband, Robert Sharp; mother-in-law, Lois Mae Freeman; sister-in-law, Connie Pat and husband, William Mac Mauney; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann and husband, Charles Gray; many nieces and nephews. Graveside services 10:00 am Tuesday at Highland South Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 PM Monday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.

She was a member of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Melbourne and was preceded in death by parents, C. Mrs. Nadine Lown

Lown, Mrs. Nadine, died Monday, April 19, 1999, after a brief battle with cancer at Fort Sanders Hospital. She had just turned 78 on Easter Sunday. She was a member of Woodlawn Christian Church, where her grandson, Dr. Rick Grover, is the minister. Mrs. Lown's husband was long time President of Manhattan Christian College, Manhattan, KS and later Sr. Minister with Central Christian Church, Wichita, KS. Mrs. Lown was very active in women's work at the college and local church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Myrtle Vaughan, by a twin brother, Albert Eugene Vaughan, and by her husband of 53 years, Dr. W.F. Lown. Sisters: Ruby Fort - Rogers, AR; Mable Glenn - Dardanelle, AR; Helen Glenn - Riverside, CA; Ruth Bland - Dardanelle, AR A long time resident of Wichita, KS, her remains will be transported there for memorial services and burial. Local memorial services will be Sunday, April 25,1999 at Woodlawn Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woodlawn Christian Church, 4339 Woodlawn Pike Knoxville, TN 37920.
