James Hulett Stogner

Reverend James Hulett “J.H.” Stogner,born December 17, 1914 in Gurley, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 5, 2000. Rev. Stogner was one of six children preceded in death by his parents James D.”J.D.” and Naomi L. Stogner and two brothers, Shelby and Comer Stogner. He was working as a machinist in Alcoa, TN in 1948 when he answered the call to preach and was ordained at First Baptist Church of Pigeon Forge. Over the years he served as pastor of Mt. Zion, Gists Creek, Millican Grove and Richardson Cove Baptist Churches in Sevierville and Center View, Pigeon Valley and Denton Baptist Churches in Cocke County. He served as Director of Missions for the Holston Valley Association from 1955 until 1964 and for East Tennessee Baptist Association from 1964 until 1980. He migrated to Gatlinburg, Tennessee in 1936 where he met his wife of 63 years, Kate Trentham Stogner, who survives him. They made their home in Rogersville, Tennessee. Also surviving are his children, James and wife Wanda of Rogersville, Dorothy and husband Sidney Lawson of Rogersville, Ronald and wife Darlene of McDonough, Georiga, Doris Stogner of Sevierville, and Esta and husband Larry Campbell of Knoxville. Also surviving him are six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and sisters, Mamie Watson of Newport, Ruby Trentham of Maryville and Lillian Crossley of Schnecksville, PA. Rev. Stogner was blessed with a long and healthy life, a wealth of family and friends and an assurance that someday the Lord would come to take him to a heavenly home prepared just for him. Funeral celebration service 7 PM Thursday at Atchley’s Smoky Mountain Chapel in Pigeon Forge.Rev. Troy Cody and Rev. Melvin Carr officiating. Entombment 10 AM Friday in Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Thursday at Atchley’s Smoky Mountain Chapel, 220 Emert Street, Pigeon Forge, TN. Joe Wallace Mullins, age 80 of Sevierville, died Sunday, December 3, 2000. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sevierville, a member of the American Legion, a former Assistant Chief of the Sevier County Volunteer Fire Department and a past member of the Sevierville Jaycees. Mr. Mullins was a veteran of World War II having served in Central Europe. Citations and medals he received were the WWII victory medal, good conduct medal, American Theater ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater ribbon with one bronze service star. Mr. Mullins was owner and operator of Mullins’ Mountain View Service Center on the Parkway in Sevierville for 42 years. Survivors: Wife of 60 years: Willie M.
