C. Maxine Reed Nelson, age 57 of Miami, Florida, passed away from complications related to Multiple Sclerosis on Nov. 5, 2000. Maxine and her husband Lauren Nelson have been residents of Miami, Florida since 1965. Mrs. Nelson was born in Sevierville, Tn and was a 1961 graduate of Sevier County High School. She attended the University of Tennessee and Baptist School of Nursing in Knoxville. After marriage to Lauren in 1963 she was employed by the Prudential Insurance Company in Lynwood, N.J. and then later in the marketing department if National Airlines in Miami, Fl. She is survived by her: Husband, Lauren Nelson of Miami, Fl Son, Michael Nelson of Tampa, F. Father and mother, Luther and Marjorie Reed of Sevierville Brother, James Reed and family of Sevierville Sisters, Helen Shockley and family of Sevierville Vickie Reed of Sevierville Graveside service and interment 10 AM Friday at Tarwater Cemetery. Sampson, Mary Ella Phillips, age 92, of Seymour, passed away Saturday November 4, 2000 at Ft. Sanders Regional Hospital. Mary Ella was a long-standing member of South Knoxville Church of God where she was an active member of the Ladies Aux. Quilting Group. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great- great grandmother. Mary Ella was preceded in death by parents, Emily and Daniel Phillips; husband, Joseph R. Sampson, who died in WW II (he went down with the USS Indianapolis); sisters, Beulah Hayes, Ethel Balltrip, Edith Cavender; brothers, Leonard Phillips and Starlin Phillips. Son and daughter in law: Bill and Wyvonne Sampson of Michigan City, Ind. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Parks, Randy Parks, Ray Mills, Jerry Gibson, Arthur Mills, and Robert Mills. Harold McMahan Butler, age 72 of Pigeon Forge, died Friday, November 3, 2000. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pigeon Forge, where he served in several positions He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict in which he earned a Bronze Star in service to his country. He was a graduate of Lincoln Memorial Univeristy in Harrogate, TN; a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars; and was a charter member of Elks Lodge 1925. Mr. Butler carried on the tradition of Butler’s General Merchandise in Pigeon Forge for many years after the death of his father. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty Helton Butler and parents, Shirley W. and Stella M. Butler.
