He was of the Baptist Faith and retired from the L & N (CSX) Railroad with 30 years full time service. A U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, he served in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines. During his service he received several ribbons, medals and citations including the Bronze Star, AP Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead and the Purple Heart. He was a member of VFW Post 1733, Fraternal Order of Eagles and UTU Local #---. Julian George Anderson, 83, of Knoxville, TN, died April 5 at Baptist Healthcare Center of Lenior City, TN. He was a retired Lutheran pastor in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. He served congregations in Minneapolis, MN; Chicago, IL; and St. Petersburg, FL, before retiring in 1978. He also taught at the Greek at the University of Minnesota and Theological Studies at Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary in Mankato, MN. He was the author of many Lutheran teaching materials, and translated the New Testament from the original Greek into an easy-to-understand version known as the Everyday American English New Testament. At the time of his death, he was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Knoxville, TN. He was a graduate of Luther College in Decorah, IA, graduated from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN, and earned a Master's degree in Linguistics from the University of Minnesota. He was born in Minneapolis, the son of Julius J. Anderson and Georgene R. (Gunderson) Anderson. Wife: LaTona M.
