He was a charter member of Lake Forest Presbyterian Church where he served as elder and deacon. He owned and managed McCallie Shoe Company before closing the business in 1985 and was a landscaper until the present time. He was a Second Lieutenant in the Air Corps during World War II and served as Scout Master of Troop 33 at Lake Forest.
