HOLMES, GLADYS ELIZABETH, age 84, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2002 at Ridgeview Terrace Nursing Home in Rutledge. She was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church, Powell. Preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Alice Cruze; husband, Enoch Lee Holmes; sister, Peggy Sanders; brothers, Tiny, Dudley, Jack and Bittie Cruze. Survived by son, Jack Harold Holmes of Knoxville; granddaughters, Jeanni Slaughter of Nashville and Rebecca Graham of Knoxville; great-granddaughters, Kylie Anyce Bearden and Leah Kaye Rager, both of Nashville; sisters, Alene Miller, Janie Lee of Knoxville; brothers, Lloyd Cruze of Knoxville, Charles and Fitchu Cruze of Rutledge; several nieces and nephews. Grigsby, Margaret (Mrs. Henry G.), age 77, of South Knoxville died at 4:00 AM Sunday, December 22, 2002 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sterling Jerome and Zula Nickels Dunn. Mrs. Grigsby had retired after many years of service as secretary and administrative assistant to the late Dr. Wade H. Boswell. In earlier years, she had worked in the offices of Dr. Paul Richards and the late Dr. Jack Chesney. She was a graduate of Young High School, Class of 1942, and had remained active until recently with the alumni group of her class. She attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a member of Island Home Baptist Church, and more recently had attended First Baptist Church. Her husband of 52 years, ?Hank? Grigsby, and her devoted son Dr. Eric J. Grigsby, of Napa, California and his wife Dr. Mary Fran Grigsby-Rocca and her cherished grandchildren Camille, ?Nate?, Giovanna, and Marielle, of Napa. She leaves her companion & devoted daschund, "Missy". She is also survived by her brother, Attorney Paul E. Dunn (Martha) of Knoxville, and their children Alison Dunn Bowles, Philip, ?Betsy?, Carolyn, and the late Laura Ellen Dunn; also A celebration of Margaret?s life will be held at 2:00 PM Monday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery following the service. MCCARTER, SFC RAY ALTON – age 56, born in Knoxville, passed away at 8:58 a.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2002 at home in Ocala, Florida. Ray was born on February 14, 1946. Ray was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Manassas, Virginia. His childhood church was Burnett’s Creek Baptist Church in Knoxville. Ray was an SFC of the US Army for 26 years and retired in 1988. As a government civilian, he served as the Chief of the Ft. Leavenworth Transportation Motor Pool for 9 years. Preceded in death by daughter, Sonya Rash; and father, Clarence McCarter.
