She was known for her compassionate and tender heart along with her baking prowess. Ruth was a registered nurse for many years at Fort Sanders Medical Center, Knoxville, TN. She was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church for 71 years where she was baptized in the first wooden church building in 1931. She was preceded in death by father Rev. Roscoe Rule, who was pastor of Valley Grove Baptist Church from 1928-1933 and mother Susie Thomas Rule; brother Rev. Luther C. Rule who pastored Inskip Baptist Church and was interim pastor of Valley Grove Baptist Church from August 1940-November 1940. Niece, Mary Nell Bozeman of Rainbow, Alabama; several cousins, great nieces, nephews and friends; also cousin & caregiver for eight years Nancy B. Lee. Kerley, Wade G., age 71 of South Knoxville, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 1, 2003, after a courageous 11 year battle with cancer. He was a member of New Hopewell Baptist Church. He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War and retired from Capper, Inc. Preceded in death by parents, Joe and Pearl Kerley and sister, Dora Jane Ownby. She is a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church on Maryville Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee. She was born in Rhea County and lived there forty years & worked at Robinsons?s Mfg. in Dayton. In 1959, the family moved to Cookeville where she lived forty years and worked at Cookeville General Hospital. In 1999, she moved to her daughter?s home. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Jesse C. & Maggie Jane Thurman; husband, Ernest A. Thomas to whom she was married for over 46 years; brothers, Mack and Allen Thurman; sisters and husbands Cora Mae (Alex) Moore and Cornia (John) McClure. She leaves her son and daughter-in-law: Ray C. and Ernestine Thomas of Murfreesboro; daughter, Margaret Thomas Medley of Knoxville; three grandchildren: Kristy Thomas of Antioch, TN; RaeAnne Thomas; Mark Medley and wife Marcia all of Knoxville; two great-grandsons: Blake and Dylan Medley; sister, Bertha Thurman Morgan, of Ft. Edwin F. Hochnedel, Jr. age 86 of Seymour passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2003 at Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leora and Edwin Hochnedel, Sr. and a sister and brother-in-law Mary Elizabeth and George Acred of Memphis. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy and retired from TVA as Chief of TVA Construction Accounting Branch after 36 years of service. He was a faithful member of First Methodist Church in Sevierville serving as a member of the Council on Ministries, as Treasurer and as Chairman of the Scholarship Committee. He was past Treasurer of TVA Retirees organization, served on the TVA Credit Union Board and was a charter member of the Bicentennial Volunteers Inc., a TVA retirees volunteer group. He was a past Commander of the Sevierville American Legion Post 104 and a member of both the Seymour and Sevierville Lions Clubs. He had served on the Sevier County Hospital Board; was a member of Chilhowee Masonic Lodge, the Kerbela Shrine and the Scottish Rite. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Williams-Hochnedel; a son, Edwin F. Hochnedel, III of Knoxville; a daughter and son-in-law, Faye and 'Moe' Hochnedel-Greenwood of Seymour; grandchildren, David and Gretchen Hochnedel of Knoxville and Marcus Fitzsimmons of Seymour; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Frances and Joseph Corcoran of Pope, Mississippi; sister-in-law, Jean Turner of Waldorf, Maryland, a special friend, Todd Nuebert of Seymour and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service 7 PM Friday in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with the Reverend Bobby Ely and the Reverend H.B. Hauk officiating.
