Fields, James A. "Rugged", age 87, of South Knoxville, passed away Friday, November 29, 2002 at UT Hospital. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He retired from Swift Packing Company. Veteran of the US Army having served during World War II. He is survived by loving and adored wife Ruth Anna Fields who he married on July 3, 1940; sons Jerry, Butch, Bobby and Mike; daughters Barbara, Sandy, Kathy, and Ruthie; 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; sisters Audrie, Phyllis, and Barbara; several sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. George Hollander officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens with full military honors by East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 PM Tuesday at Immanuel Baptist Church. Arrangements by Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.

Woods, John Delmar, age 72 of South Knoxville, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2002 at Hillcrest West Nursing Home. He was retired and former co-owner of Smalls Drive-In in Athens, Tennessee. He served in the United States Navy where he was awarded the Good Conduct Korean Service, China Service and United Nations Service Medals. Preceded in death by parents, Delmar and Myrtle Woods and sister, Genell Johnson. Wife of 47 years, Effie Woods; sister, Joyce Allen of Georgia; devoted brothers, Robert "Bill" Woods and wife, Betty of Knoxville and Ron Woods and wife, Lorna of Nashville; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was born in 1907 in Greenbriar, now part of the National Park, and was a member of the Big Greenbriar Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie E. Manning, son, Lee Roy Manning, daughter-in-law, May Dodgen Manning and her parents Eb and Cordia Whaley.
