He retired from Roadway Express with 27 years of service; and a WW11 Veteran. Survivors include wife, Ima P. Donald Frank Kasten, age 86 of Sevierville, passed away Monday, October 07, 2002. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Fort Pierce, FL Chapter. He was maintenance supervisor for the St. Lucie County School Board in Florida and the Sevier County School Board. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank C. and Tillie Schubert Kasten, and brother, Walter. Survivors: Wife of 64 years: Lucille M. Charles “Tom” Cagle, age 36, passed away Sunday October 6, 2002 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. A graduate of Sevier County High School and member of New Hope Church of God. He was active in Charity events, a favorite of which was Smoky Mountain Children Home. Tom was owner of Ol’ Smoky Discount Tobacco Stores and former partner in Sevier County Bonding Company. He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Cagle, grandparents, Charlie and Beulah Cagle, Tom and Hazel Hill. Mattie Mai Carr, age 91 of Sevierville, TN died peacefully Tuesday, October 1, 2002, after a lengthy illness. A longtime Sevier County resident, she was born Mattie Mai Byrne in the Middle Tennessee Granville Community on July 7, 1911. She was married to the late Joe Franklin Carr of Hartsville, Tennessee, for 67 years. Together they were prominent in the Sevierville business community forming Carr Dry Goods. In addition to helping with the store and several of their hotels, Mrs. Carr was a school teacher in the Underwood and Sevierville communities. Mrs. Carr was one of the founders of Sevierville Church of Christ, of which she remained a faithful member. Besides contributions to her community, she was a most gracious lady and devoted to her family of which she was most proud. HANEY, COLONEL JAMES MARSHAL (USMC, RETIRED), age 80, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at Shannondale Health Care Center. He was a member of Briar Lake Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia. He served during World War II, Korean and Vietnam conflicts and was awarded Bronze Star and Presidential Unit Citation as well as other recognitions.
