Townsend, James McKinley, age 49, of Maryville, passed away Friday October 25, 2002 at his home. He was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. Preceded in death by sister, Kimberly Renee’ Townsend; and mother, Louise Townsend. Fianc?e, Jenny McCulloch; brother, Richard Townsend; uncle, Troy Brown and wife Trula; nephews, William Casey Henderson; Aaron and Evan Connell; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Berry Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Gertrude Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at Valley Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.

Hershel Clyde Dixon
Dated: October 25 2002
Hershel Clyde Dixon, age 67 of Sevierville, died Friday Oct. 25, 2002 after a courageous 2 ½ year battle with cancer. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Dixon managed Johnson’s Drive-In during the 1970’s and 1980’s and was owner of Dixon’s Mountain House Restaurant. He was a longtime farmer and land developer in Sevier County. Survivors: Wife of 44 years: Jerri Williams Dixon Daughter: Kim McMahan Sons: Scott Dixon and wife Melissa; Derek Dixon and fiancée Terri Mallicoat Grandchildren: Morgan and Madison McMahan, Ryan and Lauren Dixon Special nephew: Jon Timmerman Brother: Doyle Dixon and Lynda Sisters and brothers-in-law: Eunive and Carl Shults, Shearlean and Austin Green Brother-in-law: Ronnie Williams and wife Sandra Funeral service 8 P.M. Monday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Dr. Randy Davis, Rev. Jerry Hyder, and Rev. Scott Andrews officiating. Interment 10 A.M. Tuesday in Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens, Pigeon Forge. Pallbearers will be nephews: Keith and Brent Shults, Dwain and David Dixon, Kent Green, Jon Timmerman, Scott Pack, Jeff Moore and Jimmy Cole. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Sunday and 6-8 PM Monday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Margaret Jamborsky Layne

Layne, Margaret Jamborsky, age 88, of South Knoxville, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2002 at Ft. Sanders Hospital. Member of First Baptist Church, Concord. She worked for Huber and Huber Motor Express for 24 years and retired from Roadway Express in 1979. Graduated from Knoxville High School in 1932. Preceded in death by father, Julius Jamborsky; mother, Margaret Jamborsky; sister, Theresa Jamborsky Perry; brothers, Andrew, Julius, and William Jamborsky. Husband, George Robert Layne; daughter, Nancy Layne Hanson; granddaughter, Michelle Hoover and husband, Michael; great-granddaughter, Catherine Hoover, all of Pleasanton, California; niece, Diane and husband, Lou Fields of Alabama; nephews, Eric and wife, Jean Jamborsky of Nashville, Tennessee; Richard and wife, Barbara Jamborsky of Virginia; Bobby and wife, Violet Perry of Seymour; Charles Davenport of Knoxville; great nieces, Hope and husband, David Ellis; Faith and husband, Michael Watson; great-great niece and nephew, Emily and Bill Ellis, all of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Ruth and husband, Bob Oaks of Florida; special friends of the family, Bill and Jean Johnson of Powell; and special sister-in-law, Marian Jamborsky. Funeral service will be held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, Berry Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Scott Thomas officiating. Family and friends will meet at the entrance to Lynnhurst Cemetery and go in procession to the graveside for interment service on Wednesday 11:00 a.m., at Lynnhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Layne to Shrine Hospital for Children, c/o Kerbela Temple, 315 Mimosa Avenue, Knoxville, Tennessee 37920. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.

James C. Maples

James C. Maples, of Pigeon Forge, went to be with the Lord, Monday, October 28, 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Pearl Maples, Son, Steven Maples, great grandson, James Cullen Morris. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Pigeon Forge, and a former Mayor of Pigeon Forge. He was a World War II veteran. Survivors: Wife: Betty Clabo Maples Daughters and sons-in-law: Connie and David Lewelling, Ronnie and Bob Barker. Daughter-in-law: Linda Atchley Maples Nine grandchildren Seven great-grandchildren Sisters: Alice Maples, Frances Maples Hodges Brothers: Leroy Maples, Paul Maples, and Lynn Maples Pallbearers: Chad Owenby, Chuck McCown, Greg Patterson, Daniel Morris, Nathan Buice, and Andrew Huff. Jones, Vivian L., age 73, of Seymour, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Pigeon Forge. She was preceded in death by grandson, Chad Jones. Daughter, Melanie Hendrix; sons, Gary and wife, Pat Jones, Jerry and wife, Donna Jones, and Stephen and wife, Danette Jones; sisters, JoAnn Skeen, Rosemary Walker, and Susan Lewis; brothers, Rev. W. David Lewis, Kenneth E. Lewis, and Byron Smith Lewis, Jr.; grandchildren, Adam and Eric Johnson; Dr. Jerry W. Jones, Jr. and wife, Allison, V. Morgan and Mallory Jones, Ian and Kasey Jones, Felisa Bill and Courtney Espiona. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel of Berry Funeral Home, with funeral service to follow at 8:00 p.m. Family and friends will meet 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel and proceed to the gravesite at Lynnhurst Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. interment service. She was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church and long-time faithful member of the Volunteer Sunday School class, and the Order of the Eastern Star, May Chapter #24. Miss Swafford was retired from Southern Coffin and Casket Company where she served as office manager and financial officer. She was preceded in death by parents, Logan and Addie Swafford; brothers, Hooper, Sanford, Homer, and Herbert Swafford; sisters, Ruby Swafford and Willie Bible. Sisters, Jamie Kalavski of Silver Spring, MD and Mary Hembree; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Berry Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Cabel Trent and Rev. William J. Fowler officiating. Interment will follow Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Spring City Cemetery in Spring City, Tennessee.
