Emily Thelma “Sammie” Trotter, age 94 of Gatlinburg, died Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at Fort Sanders-Sevier Nursing Home. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Gatlinburg. Mrs. Trotter was born in the Wears Valley community of Sevier County September 6, 1907. She married Samuel Edward Trotter August 23, 1926 and together they owned and operated Trotters Restaurant for 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Edward Trotter, son, Samuel Edward Trotter, Jr., and grandson Edward Browning Trotter. Pollard, Bessie Mae -age 95, of South Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at Hillcrest South Nursing Facility. Member of Sevier Heights Baptist church and retired from the Veterans Administration. Preceded in death by parents, C.E. and Eliza Julian Burnette; husband, Frank W. Pollard; brothers, Lyndel and Fonde Burnette; and sisters, Grace Watson and Catherine Cowden. Daughter and son-in-law: Maxine and Edd Norton Family and friends will meet 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Cemetery for graveside services at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David Abernathy officiating. Richard Robert “Dick” Vance, age 83 of Pigeon Forge, passed away Tuesday, August 27th, 2002 at Fort Sanders-Sevier Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was a retired businessman, an avid golfer and sportsman. Well known in golfing circles throughout the Southeast, Richard won many amateur championships. He was a charter member of Deane Hill Country Club and a member of the Elks Lodge. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Cora Aileen Ramsey Vance; parents William and Lilly Vance; sisters, Delma “Pete” Eckel, Thelma “Skeet” Whaley, and Mina Lee Sharp; brothers, Paul Vance, Bruce Vance, Arthur Vance, Joe Vance and Ralph Vance. LaVerne H. Kelch, of Sevierville, passed away Monday, August 26, 2002 at St. Mary’s Hospice Care in Knoxville. He was born June 29, 1914 in Clark County, Wisconsin. A resident of Sevier County since 1965, he was the founder of the Pigeon Forge KOA, a member of the Gatlinburg Rotary Club and a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Gatlinburg. His wife of 66 years, Gladys, and his son, Richard G. “Dick” Kelch, preceded him in death.
