Iris Louise Marshall Newman

Iris Louise Marshall Newman, 76, of Sevierville went home to be with her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday August 24, 2002. Iris was a dedicated and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Gatlinburg where she served as organist for 30 years. She was currently a member of First United Methodist Church of Sevierville. Iris, a retired organ and piano teacher for 40 years, was a member of the Knoxville Organ Guild. In 1980 Iris opened the Barn Owl, the only Hallmark store in Pigeon Forge. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy C. Newman; parents Mack T. and Minnie Belle Marshall; brother, Mack Marshall and sister Gladys Plunkett. Survivors: Son: Roy Kent Newman Grandson: Ted K. Newman and wife Teri Great Grandsons: Thomas and Tucker Newman Sisters –in-law: Agnes Marshall, Marie Newman, Willie Mae Henderson Several nieces and nephews Her very special extended family included Dwight E. Maples and family, Georgeanna Morgan, Judy Bales and her “Girls” at the Barn Owl. Funeral service 10AM Tuesday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Brady officiating. Interment will follow in Middle Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-9PM Monday at Atchley Funeral Home in Sevierville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Sevierville, Music Fund. Iris will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

John Edward Webb

John Edward Webb, 85, of Bybee, formerly of Sevier County, went to be with Jesus Saturday August 24, 2002. He was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Cocke Co. Survivors: Wife; Mildred Webb Son and daughter-in-law; Kenneth and Lillian Webb Sister; Lillie Steel Brother; Homer Webb 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren Several nieces and nephews Step-children; Garlon and Judy Whaley Benny and Judy Flynn Lester and Patti Flynn Max and Debbie Frazier Randy Graves Kevin Graves Funeral service 7PM Sunday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Clarence Wilson and Rev. Benny Flynn officiating. Interment 10AM Monday in Knob Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7PM Sunday at Atchley Funeral Home in Sevierville.

Victoria Coleman Mitchell

Mitchell, Vicki Coleman, born September 21, 1947 and entered into the presence of the Lord on Friday, August 23, 2002. Vicki was the much loved daughter of Gilbert and Mary Coleman of Seymour, Tennessee. She graduated as valedictorian of her Seymour High School class in 1965 and from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Home Economics in 1969. She then taught school in Clarksville, Tennessee until she married David Mitchell in July 1972. Vicki and David moved to Santa Rosa, California for 11 years where David pastored. Following that time they lived in Massachusetts, Kentucky and Pennsylvania. During these years, Vicki gave birth to three children: Elizabeth, Sarah and Keith. In 1998, the family moved to the Atlanta area. Vicki was a strong believer in Jesus Christ and during her adult years taught many women in Bible studies and as a conference speaker. She was also a gifted seamstress and interior designer. She touched thousands of lives in many parts of the country and was a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend. She is also survived by her dear sister, Vivian Dickey; niece Karen Dickey and nephew Lee Dickey; brother-in-law Steward Dickey all of Seymour, Tennessee. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at Seymour Heights Christian Church at 7:00 PM with visitation to follow the service. Interment Wednesday, August 28, 2002, 10:00 AM, Eusebia Cemetery, Blount County. A memorial service will also be held on Sunday, September 22, 2002 at 3:00 PM at Peachtree Christian Fellowship in Peachtree City, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that if anyone wants to honor her, donations can either be made to the Coleman Scholarship Fund at Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, Tennessee or to the building fund at Peachtree Christian Fellowship in Peachtree City, Georgia. Arrangements by Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.

Catherine George Thompson

Thompson, Catherine George, age 87, died Friday August 23 at her home in Knoxville, TN. She was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, and later moved to Miami Florida where she married Charles A. Thompson in 1939. She moved to Knoxville four-and-a-half years ago. Catherine was a member of Welcome Wagon, an active volunteer for Children's Hospital, and a frequent canasta player at the Frank R. Strang Senior Center. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her parents Edwin George and Catherine Playfair George; husband, Charles A. Thompson; brothers: Moses George, John George, Edwin George, and James George; sister, Agnes Lesher; and a grandchild Kristine Rich. Her twin sister, Mary Dunn; brother, David George; three daughters and their husbands: Mary and Richard Rich, Joann and Lee Lavenka, and Joyce and Cecil Presnell; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A receiving of friends is planned for 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday August 26, at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway Knoxville, TN. Burial will be in Dade County, Florida in Woodlawn Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.

Jerry Curtis Garner

Jerry Curtis Garner, age 51, of Sevierville died Thursday Aug. 22, 2002. He was the owner of Sevier Pump Sales. He was preceded in death by son, Sammy Garner mother, Lexie Garner Parton.
