Elmary Pharris
Elmary Pharris, 91, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born May 17, 1912, a daughter of the late John Miller Simmons and Lenora Alice Eden Simmons. She was a retired cook at Macon County General Hospital and a member of Brattontown Missionary Baptist Church. On November 10, 1933, she was united in marriage to Ernest Dotson(Earl) Pharris, who preceded her in death on February 1, 1987.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Jimmy Shrum, Lafayette, TN; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Thelma Pharris, Lebanon, TN; Joe & Linda Pharris, Nashville, TN; a son-in-law, Wilson Dudley Binion, Indianapolis, IN; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and three great-greatgrandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by 2 daughters, Sandra Binion and Betty Jean Cates; a son, Jimmy Pharris, 7 brothers, John D., Tom, Odell, Luid, Raymond, Aubrey, and Thomas Simmons; 5 sisters, Ozzie Simmons, Marie Wright, Lillian Templeton, Helen Jones, and Dovie Norman; and 2 grandsons, Danny Cates and Timothy Pharris.
Funeral services for Elmary Pharris were conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, September 19, 2003 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Eld. G.W. Knight and Eld. Guthrie Thompson officiating. Burial was in the Drury Cemetery. Pallbearers were great-grandsons.

Herbert Wilson Ford
Mr. Herbert Wilson Ford, age 83, of Hartsville, TN, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 8, 2003 at Trousdale Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ann Ford; one son, Randy Ford; one daughter, Sandy Stafford, all of Hartsville; three grandchildren, one step-grandchild; three brothers, Mr. Ordean Ford, Indianapolis, IN, Archie Ford, Cookeville, TN, and Charly Ford, Ohio.
Funeral services were held in the chapel of Anthony Funeral Home, Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, 2:00 p.m., conducted by Elder Eddie Gregory. Pallbearers were Jerry Clift, David Harper, Michael Satterfield, Bryan and Gary Stafford, and James Swindle. Interment was in the Drury Cemetery in Macon County, TN.

Dorothy E. "Wanda" Hire
Dorothy E. "Wanda" Hire, 69, of the Oakdale Community in Macon County, Tennessee, and a former resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2003, at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, Tennessee.
The Monroe County, Kentucky native was born Wednesday, July 12, 1933, a daughter of the late John T. Vance and Kate Murphy Vance. She was a retired employee of Fairmont Glass in Indianapolis, Indiana, and a member of Westmoreland Church of Christ. In November 1971, she was united in marriage to Wayne "Cotton" Hire.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne "Cotton" Hire, of the Oakdale Community; a daughter, Nancy Anderson, Indianapolis, Indiana; six sons, Mike (Sandy) Cleary, John (Cynthia) Cleary, Mark (Beckie) Cleary, and Randy Cleary, all of Indianapolis, IN; Jimmie Cleary and Ron (Karen) Cleary of the Oakdale Community; a brother, Edward Vance, Mooresville, IN; a sister, Maxine Curtis, Tompkinsville, KY; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Vance; and a sister, Elizabeth Vance.

"Wanda" Hire were conducted Saturday, January 18, 2003, 1:00 p.m., at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN, with Randy Wells, Doyle Farris and Chris King officiating. Samuel Edward Dallas
Samuel Edward Dallas, 51, of Smyrna, TN, passed away April 26, 2003.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 28, 1 p.m., at Alexander Funeral Home in Gallatin, conducted by Rev. Jerry Peace. Burial was in Enon Cemetery in Macon County.
He was the son of the late Donald Dallas, and Charlene and step-father Conway Brown of Smryna. He was married to Connie Delaney Dallas, who survives. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Judith Dallas.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Dallas, Huntsville, AL, Shane Dallas and Sonny Dallas, both of Murfreesboro, TN; one step-son, Chris McCorkle, Charlotte, NC; two daughters, Pualenuea Dallas Collins, Fishkill, NY, Samantha Dallas Brown, Lavergne, TN; four sisters, Teresa Nash, Beverly Myers, Tammy Rogan, all of Murfreesboro, Connie Copen, Littleton, CO; 20 grandchildren.
Casper "Cap" Petty
Retired Defeated Creek Community farmer, Mr. Casper "Cap" Petty died Saturday afternoon, September 20, 2003 at the Carthage General Hospital where he had been a patient since August 29th. He was 89.
Bro. Harold Ray and Eld. Jeff Patterson officiated at the 1:00 p.m. Monday services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens.
Born in Defeated Creek on January 8, 1914, he was the son of the late James and Minnie Givens Petty. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ruby Brooks, Erma Kemp, and Lizzie Shepherd.
The Pettys were preceded in death on October 14, 2002 by a grandson, Jordan Cage Hackett.
On May 21, 1932 he was married to the former Mildred Dillehay of Defeated Creek. She preceded him in death on May 1, 2003 after almost 71 years of marriage. A tobacco and cattle farmer, he was also active in the Carthage tobacco markets. He served with the U.S. Army during World War 11 from January 8, 1943 until being honorable discharged with the rank of Tech 5 on January 30, 1946. He served for twenty two months of his military obligation with the 551st Ordnance in the Hawaiian Islands. He was of the Missionary Baptist belief.
Surviving is a daughter, Myna Lynn Huffines and husband Philip; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren, all of the Turkey Creek Community.

Sharon Diane Herald Farris, age 38, of Westmoreland, passed away October 28, 2003 at her residence.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 31, 2003, 2:00 p.m., at Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home with Bro. David Harper officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery.
She was born Sept. 24, 1965 in Sumner County, TN, a daughter of Benny Herald and Linda Herald, both of Westmoreland. She was married to Darrell Farris of Westmoreland, who survives. She was a housewife.
Survivors besides her husband and parents include a son, Dustin Farris; daughter, Alyssa Farris; brother, Anthony Herald, and sister Pam Brown, all of Westmoreland, TN.

Herbert Gray Cutrell
Herbert Gray Cutrell, 73, of Lafayette, TN, passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette,TN.
The Union City, TN native was born March 24, 1929, a son of the late Ward Cutrell and Alice Hiett Cutrell. He was a retired marketing and sales director for North Central Telephone Cooperative, where he worked for over 45 years, a member of Pioneers of America, Lafayette Lions Club, where he was a past-president, was induced in the Macon County Sports Hall of Fame, and was a member of Lafayette First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and member of the choir.
Funeral services for Herbert Gray Cutrell were conducted Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, 2:00 p.m., at Lafayette First Baptist Church with Rev. Russell Trotter, Rev. Dewayne Tinker, and Bro. Leroy Crouch officiating. Burial was in Macon County Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers were John D. Wootten, Sr., Judge John D. Wootten, Jr., Wes White, Brad Harper, Toney Harper, Tony Wilson, Charles Whitten, and Eric Funk. Honorary pallbearers were George Shockley, George Tucker, Harris Howser, James Merryman, Jackie Eller, Randall Tuck, Wayland Blankenship, Clarence Gregory, Hugene Watson, Barry Holman, Carrol Wheeley, Calson Doss, Wayne Hesson, Jimmy Claywell, and Lorene Roberts.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Wootten Cutrell of Lafayette, TN; a son and daughter-in-law, Woody and Susi Cutrell, Murfreesboro; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cherisse W. and Lanny Huddleston, Austin, TX, Anita H. and Roger Gregory, Hartsville, TN, Kim C. and James White, Lafayette, TN; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Thaddeus Parkhurst.
