Hazel C. Benson Mainord, 79, of Nashville passed away May 28 [2008] at her residence. Funeral services were held May 31 from the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Benson officiating. Interment followed in the Netherland Cemetery.
Hazel C. Benson Mainord was born July 18, 1928 in Putnam Co.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Martha Evelyn Ethridge Benson; husband, Cecil Mainord; sister, Stella Mae Johnson and brothers, Virgil, Horace, Jay, Gilbert, Johnny, Ernest, Milburn and Ted Benson.
Surviving relatives include: sons, Billy and wife Debbie Mainord of Mt. Juliet and Donald Mainord of Nashville; daughter, Margaret Mainord of Antioch; sister, Berella Swallows of Cookeville; sisters in law, Alma Benson of Cookeville and Doris Carr of Jacksonville, FL.; brother in law, Mitchell Mainord of Cookeville; grandchildren, Scott, Jessica and Justin and wife Kelly and great grandchildren, Jason, Brooklyn and Dixie.

Odell Haney Jared

Odell Haney Jared, 88, of Cookeville passed away May 31 [2008] at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were held June 2 from the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Sebastian officiating. Interment followed in Browns Mill Cemetery.
Odell Haney Jared was born March 11, 1920 in Putnam Co. She was retired from Idea Cleaners after 30 years and was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Newman Haney and Nannie Lou Cumby; husband, Albert J. Jared; son, David Paul Jared; granddaughter, Michelle Wassom and brothers, Charlie and Clyde Haney.
Surviving relatives include: daughters, Ann and husband Roy Randolph of Livingston and Nancy and husband Randall Whiteaker of Algood; sons, Eddie and wife Linda Jared of Sparta, Robert G. and wife Nancy Jared of Cookeville, Wayne and wife Sandra Jared of Smithville and Michael Jared of Cookeville; sister, Ora Lee Whiteaker of Algood; 18 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

J. D. Cantrell

J.D. Cantrell, 56, of Livingston passed away July 7 [2008] at Livingston Regional Hospital. Funeral services were held July 9 at Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Ovle Tinch officiating. Interment followed in the Okalona Cemetery.
Pallbearers included: Jerry Garrett, Joe Garrett, Tommy Paul, Mike Cantrell, Mark Cantrell, and Jim Bo Melton.
Honorary Pallbearers included: Johnny Mansell, Mark Paul and Gary Langford.
J.D. Cantrell was born Oct. 12, 1951 in Overton County. He was a mechanic and was affiliated with the First Freewill Baptist Church in Livingston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tilbert and Hessie Hammock Cantrell.
Surviving relatives included: wife, Gail Robbins Cantrell of Livingston; daughters, Jennifer Ruble of Nashville; sons, Joey and Jason Cantrell of Livingston; sister, Cornelia Linder of Livingston; brothers, Jewell Cantrell of Allons and J.C. Cantrell of Livingston; granddaughters, Toni and Gabby Cantrell and nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Verla Elizabeth Gentry, 85, of Algood passed away July 3 [2008] at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Graveside services were held July 6 at Cookeville City Cemetery with Rick Sampley officiating.
Verla Elizabeth Gentry was born Dec. 13, 1922 in Pickett County. She was a seamstress at Cherokee Furniture and attended Midway Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Trammel and Ida Smith Hinds; husband, Willie Dawson and son, Ronnie Dawson.
Surviving relatives include: daughters, Betty and husband Dana Gilreath of Cookeville, Judy and husband Rick Sampley of Atlanta, GA.; sisters, Lucille Huddleston of Battle Creek, MI., Kathryn and husband Sam Coward of Algood, Nellie and husband Bill Diamond of Allons and Pauline and husband Charles Keisling of Livingston; brother, Kirby and wife Cheokyo Hinds of Smyrna; grandchildren, Emily Brubaker, Julie McMullen, Kyla Gentry, Silas and Willy Gilreath and three great grandchildren.

Henry G. Savage, 63, of Cookeville passed away July 8 [2008] at Masters Health Care Center. Funeral services were held July 11 at the Chapel of Hall Funeral Home with Rev. Elizabeth Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the Paran Cemetery in Rickman.
Henry G. Savage was born Jan. 17, 1945 in Dayton Ohio. He worked for a Plating Company in Dayton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Firman and Annetta Barbee Moyer.
Surviving relatives include: sons, Michael Savage and Matthew Savage of Dayton, OH.; daughter, Cheryl Maynord of Dayton, OH.; stepson, Ricky Brown of Cookeville; sisters, Naomi Graham of Germantown, OH., Judy Gore of Vandalia, OH., Jackie Ramsey of Dayton, OH., Pat Terry of West Palm Beach, FL. and Dona Robold of Miamisburg, OH. five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Hazel Burnice Britt, 73, of Rickman passed away July 10 [2008] at her residence. Funeral services were held at July 13 at the Chapel of Hall Funeral Home with Bro. Robert Boles officiating. Interment followed in the Old Union Cemetery in Sparta.
Pallbearers included: David Britt, Mike Britt, Mark Key, Blake Haston, Juston Reeder and Jeremy Reeder.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnie and Annie Miller Simmons;
Surviving relatives include: husband, Franklin Leon Britt of Rickman; son, Maxie Britt of Rickman; daughter, Wanda Haston of Pikeville; sister, Betty Myers of Pikeville; brothers, Powell Simmons and John Simmons both of Pikeville; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tarence Jones, Mertie Stephens Jones; husband, Eather O. Turner; brothers, Cletis Jones, Boyd “Farmer” Jones, Hayden Jones, Clarence Jones and Hurthle Jones; sisters, Floye Jones and Opal Choate.

Helen Mazelle Melton was born Oct. 20, 1939 in Pickett County. She was a C.N.A. with Amedisys Home Health and a Member of the Cullom Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshell and Pearl Conaster Flowers; husband, A.C. Melton; sisters, Avis Knight, Opal Franklin and Nellie Daniels; brothers, Oliver Flowers and James Flowers.
Surviving relatives include: sons, Scotty and wife Julie Melton of Monroe and Shawn and wife Amy Melton of Algood; daughters, Wanda and husband Johnny Richardson of Livingston, Ginger and husband Kay Stockton of Monroe, Diann and husband Roger Crabtree of Tullahoma; sisters, Lilly Kennedy of Livingston, Omajean Bowman of Huntsville, AL., June Copeland of Huntsville, AL., Hazel Flippen of Las Vegas, NV., Valeria Combs of Crossville, IL., eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
