ROGERSVILLE -- Ruth Rouse Henard, age 84, Rogersville, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Rogersville.
She was a graduate of ETSU with a bachelor degree in science and was a retired school teacher serving 40 years with the Rogersville City and Hawkins County school systems. She was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church where she was an active member until her illness. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Big Creek Home Demonstration Club, and was active with the First Baptist Church Keen-Agers and the First Baptist Church Cheerful Chimes Choir of Rogersville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Henard.
She is survived by a nephew, Darrell Rouse and wife Zelma, Rogersville; great-nieces, Teresa Rouse Bundren, Karen Rouse Brooks and husband Zan; great-nephews, Dean Rouse and wife Paula, and Bill Rouse, all of Surgoinsville; great-great-nephews, John Bundren, Dalton Bundren, Hunter Rouse, Tristan Brooks and Dustin Rouse; great-great-nieces, Ginger Bundren, Haley Rouse and Peyton Brooks.

Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, in the funeral home chapel with Revs. Otto Giles and Eugene Hageman officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, in Highland Cemetery.

Jean M. Skelton
Died: 12/10/2000
ROGERSVILLE -- Jean McAlister Skelton, age 79, Rogersville, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at her residence following an extended illness.
She was a member of the Russellville Presbyterian Church and also attended other churches in Hawkins County. She was a nutritionist for Hawkins County Extension.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gale Skelton; sisters, Ada Brady, Argent Silvers and Ruby McAlister; brothers, James McAlister and Thomas McAlister.
She is survived by a daughter, Astra and husband Jim Ford, Rogersville; two sons, Charles Skelton of the home, and Gerald Skelton and wife Mary, Rogersville; four grandchildren, Jeffery Ford, Morristown, Mark Ford, John Skelton and Paul Skelton, all of Rogersville; two great-grandchildren, Lindsey Ford and Preston Ford; sisters-in-law, Dexter McAlister and Kate Carpenter, both of Morristown; special friend, Helen Voils, Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.

Joe E. Fugate III
Died: 12/09/2000
ROGERSVILLE -- Joe Eldridge Fugate III (affectionately called Joey), age 60, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, in Rogersville.
He retired from John Sevier Fossil Plant after 21 years of service and in May of this year he retired after 26 years with the Army National Guard #278 Army Cavalry. He was a member of Russell Chapel AME Zion Church and a member of American Legion Post #21. He was an avid gun collector.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Fugate Jr.; mother, Mary K. Carr; brother, Jesse Neal Fain; and sister, Mary Ann Cartwright.
He is survived by his loving wife, Wanda; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Anthony Purnell, Germantown, MD; step-son, Steve Hampton and wife Valarie, Southfield, MI; six grandchildren, Erica, Joel, Jordyn, Danielle, Alexsa and Anthony Jr.; devoted mother-in-law, Mary Hampton, Newport; six sisters and three brothers, Richard Lynn ?fugate, Judith Johnson, Mrs. Rolax (Barbara) Jones, and Mrs. Leonard (Phyllis) Ewing, all of Rogersville, Mrs. Lanny (Kathy) Tarter, Johnson City, Mrs. Anthony (Christine) Johnson, Jeffery and Melinda Fugate, all of Kingsport, Marshall Cartwright, Church Hill, and Pamela (Suzanne) Pruitt, Knoxville; several nieces and nephews; a host of cousins; two special cousins, Wayne Fain and William Fugate; and a special friend, Bobby Gudger.
The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.
Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. C.C. Curry officiating. Tennessee Army National Guard #278 Army Cavalry will conduct military graveside services 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Mitchell Crest Cemetery.
Imogene H. Kite

MORRISTOWN -- Imogene H. Kite, Morristown, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Heritage Nursing Home, Morristown following an extended illness.
She was a native of Smith County, VA, and had resided in Kingsport before moving to Michigan and then to Morristown in 1978. She was a member of Robertson Creek Baptist Church, Morristown.
She is survived by her husband, Martin V. Kite of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Tickle and wife Geraldine, Chattanooga; and Carl Tickle and wife Shirley, Roanoke, VA; a step-son, Randall Kite, Taylor, MI; six grandchildren, Lea Ann Burk, Lisa Roberts, Linda Trickle, Lizabeth Tickle, Carl Tickle Jr., Alden Tickle; three step-granddaughters, Jennifer Kite, Jodi Kite and Jamie Kite; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Stella Fields
Died: 12/12/2000
CHURCH HILL -- Stella Fields, age 43, Church Hill, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born in Kingsport but had been a resident of Hawkins County all her life. She attended Primitive Baptist Church on the Old Johnson City Highway.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister; and maternal grandmother, Marilda Taylor.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sonia and Clifford Boggs and Tonia and Lloyd Smith, all of Church Hill; a son, Anthony (Tony) Wayne Fields Jr. of the home; parents, Elmer and Ruth Taylor King, Church Hill; two grandchildren, Nathaniel Salyer and Jessica Boggs; a third grandchild due Dec. 29, 2000, who will be named Anthony Shane Smith; father of her children, Anthony Wayne Fields Sr., Church Hill; two step-grandchildren, Courtney Boggs and Matthew Boggs; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and George Witt, Gray, Carolyn and Steven Hayes, Joyce and David Hall, all of Kingsport; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter Edward Gray, David Scott King, William Archie and Teresa King and Kenneth Lee and Geneva King, all of Church Hill; several nieces and nephews.

Kirby L. Gillenwater
Died: 12/12/2000
ROGERSVILLE -- Kirby Leon Gillenwater, age 57, Rogersville, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was a Vietnam War veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by the Hawkins County Board of Education for 27 years, having served seven years as principal of Surgoinsville Middle School. He was presently serving as a fourth grade teacher at Hawkins County Elementary and was known by his students as Mr. G. A dedicated husband and father, he was a member of the Surgoinsville First Baptist Church. He served on the Hawkins County Board of Commissioners four years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Una Perry Gillenwater; two brothers, J.B. Gillenwater and Gene Gillenwater.
He is survived by his wife Linda Price Gillenwater; a son, Tyler Gillenwater, both of the home; a sister, Peggy Cline and husband Don, New Orleans, LA; four brothers, Harold Gillenwater, Travelers Rest, SC, Coy Gillenwater and wife Carol, New Orleans, LA, Delmar Gillenwater and Jack Gillenwater and wife Katy, all of Kingsport; father and mother-in-law, William and Jean Price, Surgoinsville; sister-in-law, Carla Morrison and husband Jeff, Killen, AL; and several nieces and nephews.

Myron B. Jones
Died: 12/13/2000
MYRON B. JONES ROGERSVILLE -- Myron B. Jones, age 71, Rogersville, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital.
He was a Vietnam War veteran, having served in the U.S. Army where he received the Bronze Star award. He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 1/2 years of service. He was employed by Ladd Furniture Co. Inc. He was a member of the Persia Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Myron B. and Willie Chaney Jones; and a sister, Velma Trent.
He is survived by a son, Rev. Ron Jones and wife Jeanne, New Market; three granddaughters, Lori Jones, Kara Jones and Melanie Jones, all of New Market; a sister, Wanda Jones, Rogersville; a brother, Otis Jones, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

Otis Heron
Died: 12/14/2000
CHILHOWIE, VA -- Otis Herron, age 82, Chilhowie, VA, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Smyth County Community Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born in Lee County, VA, April 29, 1918 and lived most of his adult life in Rogersville, where he made his home with his sister, Rosezetta Reed. He made his profession of faith Christmas Eve, 1947.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida Jane Gilliam Herron; a sister, Gladys Klepper; and brothers, Clarence Herron, Carson Herron and Marshall Herron.
He is survived by three sisters, Virgie Collins and husband A.V., Elsie Trent and husband Hugh, and Rosezetta Reed, all of Rogersville; a brother, John Herron Jr. and wife Birdie, Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, in the funeral home chapel with Revs. Mickey Burton and Glen Bradley officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery.
