EIDSON -- Georgia Benson Scalf, age 64, Eidson, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, following an extended illness.

She was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and attended Unicoi Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pharse and Bertha Bledsoe Hurd; and brothers, Waymond Hurd and D.H. Hurd.

She is survived by her husband, Carson Scalf of the home; a son, Jerry Vernon Scalf and wife Sandy, Eidson; two grandchildren, Holly Scalf, Rogersville, and Dustin Scalf, Eidson; three sisters, Kate Rhea, Sneedville, Gladys Rhea Dean, Eidson, and Betty Jean Cope, Rogersville; two brothers, Lester Hurd of Idaho, and Lawrence Hurd, Sneedville.

Calling hours are 6 - 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, in the funeral home chapel with Revs. Gordon Justice and Daniel Hurd officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, in the Scalf family Cemetery, Eidson.

Cynthia J. Manis
Died: 01/20/2001
ROGERSVILLE -- Cynthia Jane (Cyndi) Douthat Manis, age 39, Rogersville, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital, Kingsport, following an extended battle with cancer.

She was born Oct. 25, 1961, and was a native of Hawkins County. She was a member of Persia Baptist Church, was a 12-year employee of TRW, Rogersville, and was a 1979 graduate of Cherokee Comprehensive High School.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cherise Danielle; and grandparents, Tom and Ora Smith, and Jess Douthat.

She is survived by two daughters, Whitney and Crystal of the home; her mother, Edith S. Douthat Henry, Rogersville; father, Charles Wayne Douthat, Mohawk; a brother, David Allen Douthat, Rogersville; a nephew, Anthony Wayne Douthat; grandmother, Bea Douthat, Morristown; step-father, Drexel Henry; step-mother, Dorothy Douthat; half-brothers, Charles and Daniel Douthat, both of Mohawk; several aunts and uncles; and many friends and loved ones.

The family will receive friends any time at the residence, 261 Old Hwy. 113, Rogersville, and from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. Monday with Revs. Lawrence Smith and Bobby Bentley officiating. Music will be provided by East Rogersville Quartet. Honorary pallbearers will be Drs. John Shaw, Fredrick Meyers, Ernest Helms, Edwin McLroy Jr., Harlan Simpson and Galen Smith. Active pallbearers will be Wayne Carroll, Gerald Trent, Dale Lee, J.C. Smith, Andrew Reed, and Leon Wright.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at the Kite Cemetery.

Willie P. McPeak
Died: 01/19/2001
ROGERSVILLE -- Willie P. McPeak, age 66, Rogersville, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Hawkins County Memorial Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Corbett and Rachel McPeak; brothers, J.C. McPeak, Alvin McPeak and Ike McPeak; and sisters, Nargie Frost and Annette Rhodes.

He is survived by a sister, Minnie Yakich of California; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, David Horton.

The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Arry Hickman officiating. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Wallace Cemetery.

Johnie M. Richards
Died: 01/20/2001
ROGERSVILLE -- Johnie Marie Richards, age 71, Rogersville, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.

She was a member of Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Lucille Hullette Garvin; a daughter, Sallie Brewer; two brothers, Merle Garvin Jr., and Corkey Garvin.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Freeman Richards of the home; two daughters, Vickie Lynn Byington and husband James Jr., Rogersville, Carol Sue Cecconi and husband Jimmy, Perry, OH; a son, Roger Richards and wife, Rhonda, Rogersville; two step-sons, Ricky Roy Richards, Grafton, OH, and Michael Gary Richards, Columbia Station, OH; a sister, Jeanie Thornsburry, Niles, OH; a brother, Ronnie Garvin, Warren, OH; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be 6 - 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Kay F. Stewart
Died: 01/20/2001
ROGERSVILLE -- Kay Francis Parvin Stewart, age 63, Rogersville, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Joe Stewart; and father, Arthur Parvin.

She is survived by two sons, Mike Stewart, Coeburn, VA, and Mitchell S. Stewart, Rogersville; a daughter, Jeannie Stewart, Maryville, GA; her mother, Virginia Parvin, Rogersville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Billie June Rhoton, Rogersville, and Barbara Williams, Rogersville; two brothers, Raymond Parvin, Rogersville, and Roger Parvin, Morrison, IL; an aunt, Mrs. James (Jewell) Bishop, Arlington, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Woolridge officiating. Interment will follow in McKinney Cemetery.

Yasuko A. Zimmerman
Died: 01/18/2001
ROGERSVILLE -- Yasuko Arakane Zimmerman, Rogersville, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Summit Medical Center, Nashville, following a brief illness.

She was a member of Rogersville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Erich Zimmerman.

She is survived by a daughter, Tsuya Beckman and husband Jerry, Mt. Juliet; and a son, Erich C. Zimmerman, Nashville; two grandchildren, Andrew Beckman and Thomas Beckman, both of Mt. Juliet; a sister-in-law, Margaret Stubbs and husband, Charles, Charlotte, NC.

Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Rogersville United Methodist Church.

Doris J. Lipe
Died: 01/20/2001
NORWOOD, IL -- Doris J. Lipe, age 68, Norwood, IL, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL.

She was born June 18, 1932, and married Donald E. Lipe in 1953. She managed the post office at Bergner’s Store at Sheridan Village, Peoria, IL, until 1998. She formerly attended Northwest Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Lipe on Jan. 21, 1993; her father, Walter Trent; and a sister.

She is survived by her mother, Annie Alvis Trent, Rogersville; a son, Walt (Elyn) Lipe, Dunlap, IL; a daughter, Denise (Joe) Gallardo, Sterling, IL; two grandchildren; a brother, Curt (Reba) Trent, Rogersville; and Jim Murphy, with whom she made her home.

Visitation will be held 5 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, Peoria, IL. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel with Rev. Vern Widmer officiating. Burial will be in the Chillicothe City Cemetery, Chillicothe, IL.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Linda G. Bradford

BULLS GAP -- Linda Gail Bradford, Bulls Gap, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Dale Bradford; father, Gale Etter Cinnamon; brothers, Clifford Eugene Cinnamon and Gary Wayne Cinnamon; special friend, James Leon Lawson.

She is survived by her mother, Hazel Christine Cinnamon, Rogersville; five sons, Roger Lee Bradford, Dana Gail Lawson, Billy Joe Lawson, James Jason Lawson and Damon Benning Lawson, all of Morristown; three daughters, Molena Nicole Dowell, Rogersville, Jennifer Christine Price and Raven Dawn Lawson, both of Morristown; four brothers, Charles, Eddie, Danny Cinnamon, all of Rogersville, and Milton Cinnamon of West Virginia; seven sisters, Nancy Williams, Reba Trent, Glenda Barker, Sandra Mullins, Lillie Bailey, Tammy Murrell and Shannon Cinnamon, all of Rogersville; several grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Rev. Bob Bentley officiating. Interment will follow in Liberty Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Lucille S. Burrell
Died: 01/25/2001
ROGERSVILLE -- Lucille Starnes Burrell, age 77, Rogersville, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital.

She was a faithful member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Bessie Starnes; two brothers, Sherman Starnes Jr. and Jimmy Starnes; and a sister, Blanche Walton.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Talmadge Burrell of the home; a daughter, Bernice Wolfe, Morristown; a son, Danny Burrell, Kingsport; four grandchildren, Jay Tankersley Jr., Morristown, Avanell Parker, Bulls Gap, Seaman Class II Timothy Burrell of New Jersey, and Terry Burrell, Kingsport; six great-grandchildren, Ian Tankersley, Morristown, Stacey Parker, Dillon Parker and Steven Hinkle, Bulls Gap, Logan Burrell and Corbin Burrell, Kingsport; two step-grandchildren, Doug Wolfe and Sharon Broyles, both of Morristown; four step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Britton, Greeneville, Opal Kay Hubbs, Morristown, and Anna Mae Rittenhouse, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Revs. Carroll Manis, Elmer Bradley and Glen Solomon officiating. The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday, prior to the services.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jack Christian, Charles Anderson, Charles Skelton, Michael Starnes, Mark Underhill and Steve Starnes.
