BREWER, QUINNIE, age 93, of Sneedville, passed away Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998 at the Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare Center. She was a member of Trent Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by parents, George and Mattie Drinnon and several brothers and sisters. AUSBAND, ETHEL FERRELL, 83, of 329 Hillcrest St. Rogersville, TN., died Saturday, December 5, 1998 at Hawkins County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was a member of Cobbs Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Cobb was preceded in death by her husband, Lemon Dewey Ausband; son, James Monroe Ausband; parents, John and Martha Murrell Ferrell. COLLINS, LITTLE ALICE WILLIAMS, age 89, of Sneedville passed away December 5, 1998 at her home. She was a member of Elm Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by husbands Edward Williams and Henley Collins and daughter Louigene Jackson. FARRIS, MERLE L., DVM, of Autumn Trace, Morristown, passed away at his residence, December 5, 1998. He was a partner in the Animal Hospital, West Main Street, with Dr. S.B. Isbell from 1946 to his retirement in 1979. After graduating from Kansas State University, he served in the USDA Bureau of Animal Industry for three years when he was called into active duty as a 1st Lt. in the Veterinary Corps. After serving five years on the active duty, two years in the ETO, he was discharged with the rank of major in the Army Reserve. In 1954 he transferred to the Air Force and retired from the reserve as a Lt. Colonel. In 1992 he was invited by the German government to attend the Army Medical Activity Drawdown Honors Ceremony in Berlin, Germany. Dr. Farris was recognized as the former commander of one of two oldest units permanently garrisoned in Berlin since World War II. Since World War II there have been 22 commanders of the 168 Medical Detachment, Lt. Colonel Farris being the first. Dr. Farris served as president of both East Tennessee Veterinary Association and the Tennessee Veterinary Association. He along with Dr. Isbell was awarded the “Veterinarian of the Year for Tennessee.” He was past president of the Kiwanis Club, with memberships in the Masons, Scottish Rite, and Kerbela Temple. He was a member of First Baptist Church since 1946, where he has served as deacon, disbursing officer, Capital Steering Committee for the 1985 building program, choir, and an orchestra member. Dr. Farris is survived by his wife, Myrna Farris, Morristown; daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Michael J. and Sharon Bolesta, Dallas, Texas; grandson, Michael J. Bolesta II; sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Wright, Ottawa, Kansas, and Mrs. Luther Magers of Sierra Vista, Arizona; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, December 6, 1998 from 7:30 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Morristown. Graveside services will be held later in Ottawa, Kansas. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Greenwood Baptist Church, Rt. 3, Ottawa, Kansas, 66067; or the First Baptist Church of Morristown. GOAN, JACK O., 76, of Morristown, died Saturday morning, December 5, 1998, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.J. and Doris Inman Goan. He was a WWII veteran of the Army Air Corps., flying 32 missions over Germany as a gunner on a B-52 bomber. Upon returning to Morristown, Mr. Goan worked for South Central Bell, and retired after 40 years of service. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years with Troop 91, and also served as district chairman. He was past president of the Telephone Pioneers, the evening Kiwanis Club, and the Clover Leaf Square Dance Club. Mr. Goan will also be remembered as a volunteer poll worker during elections. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Hugh Taylor Sunday School Class, and the Men’s Choir. Survivors include his wife, Christine Reagan Goan; sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Lynn Goan of Knoxville, and Randy and Kathy Goan of Morristown; daughter, Carla Moses of Conyers, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Betty Goan of Morristown; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Smith officiating. Interment will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Hamblen Memory Gardens. HOSKINS, GERALD, age 68, of Chattanooga, died Saturday, December 5, 1998 at a local hospital. Mr. Hoskins was a native of Lowell, Ky., but has been a resident of Chattanooga since 1996, coming from Atlanta, Ga. He was of the Methodist faith, and was the past president of the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce. He was a veteran of both the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. He was the President of his Pharmacist Class of 1958, and was the former owner of Hoskins Pharmacy’s of Cleveland. He was retired from Eckerds Drug Stores as a pharmacist of 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hoskins of Chattanooga; step-son and wife, Robert and Lisa Letanosky of Clinton, TN., daughters and sons-in-laws, Cheryl and Wayne Mathis, and Diane and Stephan Hearn, all of Cleveland; brother, Kenneth Hoskins of Melbourne, Fla.; grandchildren, Will and Jay Hearn, Hannah Ruth Mathis, and Kelsle Letanosky; three nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Cleveland with Dr. Fred Dearing and Rev. Rosemary Brown officiating. Mr. Hoskins will lie in state at the church from 1 until 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. LOVIN, JAMES HENRY, age 73, of Morristown, died Thursday, December 3, 1998. He was a member of Big Hill Baptist Church and retired from Magnavox.
