MASENGILL, EVANS LEE, 88, of Pennington Rd., Bulls Gap, passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, in Takoma Hospital in Greeneville. He was a World War II veteran. He was a member of The American Legion Post #3 in Kingsport, and a retired member of International Brotherhood Electrical Workers Union in Kingsport. Survivors include a sister, Mary Johnson of Lexington, TN.; two nieces, Carol Ann Burnham of California and Jill Masengill of Florida; three nephews, David E. Johnson of Decaturville, TN., Eric Masengill of Murfreesboro, TN., and Thomas Masengill of Florida. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. George Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Morning View Cemetery in Bluff City, TN. Wilson Funeral Home, Bulls Gap in charge of arrangements.

SIZEMORE, ELIZABETH LEANNE ROSE, 3 month old daughter of Tracy and Jimmy Sizemore of Rogersville, went to live with Jesus on Dec. 6, 1998, in Johnson City Medical Center. She is survived by brothers, Trevor Heck and Jesse Sizemore; maternal grandparents, Rocky and Becky Johnson of Whitesburg and Tommy Dalton of Whitesburg; paternal grandparents, Earl and Ruby Sizemore of Rogersville, Robenia Lawson of Rogersville; special grandparents, Ronnie and Nancy Hatley of Morristown; great grandparents, Edd and Ruth Walker of Bulls Gap; special aunt, Heather Nicole Hatley of Whitesburg; and several other aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Long Cemetery, with Rev. Fred Gilreath officiating. Wilson Funeral Home, Bulls Gap, in charge of arrangements.

PIERCE, GASTON W., 83, 4210 Highway 321, Butler, died Monday, December 7, 1998 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Elizabethton after an extended illness. He was a native of Carter County. Mr. Pierce was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. He was also a farmer and gardener. He was a member of the Little Milligan Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Ruella White Pierce; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Bill Williams, Morristown, and Carolyn Sue and Bill Finney, Butler; one sister, Jean Perry, Butler; two brothers, Ray Pierce and W.C. Pierce Jr., both of Butler; five grandchildren, Jerome Finney, Jeffrey Finney, Tim Williams, Mary Beth Burns and Susan Mills; eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Nick Bradshaw and Rev. Harold McNabb officiating Graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Butler Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund, Little Milligan Baptist Church, in care of Barbara Matheson, Treasurer, 2140 West G. Street, Elizabethton, Tenn., 37643. Memorial Funeral Chapel, Elizabethton, is in charge.

WEBB, HERBERT K, “TURK,” age 83, of Lakeview Dr., Dandridge, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 8, 1998 at his home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Farrar Funeral Home, Dandridge.

DAWSON, DAVID L., 52, of Morristown, passed away Monday, December 7, 1998, at his home. He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Dawson. He was an employee of Lenzing Fibers, and a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Dawson; special friends Walter and Martha Hawk; mother-in-law and father-in-law, R.G. and Ann Drinnon; mother, Ruth Worley; uncles and aunts Clay and Joan Fox, Bruce and June Fox, and James and Sarah Ruth Fox, all of Morristown. Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Tuesday at Allen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Burford officiating. Interment will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hamblen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Allen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BELL, DONALD, age 51, of Morristown, passed away Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998 at his home after a long illness. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the son of the late David and Ida Bell. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie Collins Bell. Funeral services 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Stubblefield Funeral Home. Interment in Hamblen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown. Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown in charge of arrangements.

LEWIS, JAMES ROBERT, 73, of New Market, passed away Monday, Dec. 7, 1998 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Fielden Funeral Home, New Market.

CATRON, MARTHA SOLOMON, 4505 Little Chuckey Road, Mosheim, TN. 37818, born September 12, 1915 in Greeneville, TN., passed away Thursday morning, December 10, 1998 at Laughlin Memorial Hospital, Greeneville. Services will be Saturday, December 12, 1998, 2:00 p.m. at Kiser Funeral Chapel. Interment at Greenelawn Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends Friday, December 11, 1998 from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Kiser Funeral Home in charge.

HARMON, MRS. KATHERINE THOMAS, age 92, of Pasadena, Texas, formerly of Claiborne County passed away Dec. 8, 1998 at Vista Care in Texas. The family will receive friends 11:00 until 1:00 Saturday at Coffey Funeral Home. Graveside service 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998 in Irish Memorial Gardens. Coffey Funeral Home in charge of all services.

SMITH, BILLIE, of Morristown, husband of Huberta Gillette Smith, passed away Thursday morning, December 10, 1998. He was born September 10, 1925 and married on May 8, 1948. Billie retired from BASF. He was preceded in death by his parents, Talmidge and Sarah Smith of Cocke County and two brothers, Winton and Wayne Smith. Billie leaves family members as follows: his wife, Huberta Gillette Smith; brother and sister-in-law, Wayland and Sue Smith; children: Claudette Grigsby, Deloris Elsey, Richard Smith, Daryl Smith; son-in-law and daughters-in-law, Buddy Esley, Janice Smith, Lisa Smith; grandchildren, Robby and Angie Grigsby, Chad and Lisa Grigsby, Leigh Elsey, Richard Elsey, Chris and Kristi Lovin, Phillip Lovin, Nick Williams, Megan Williams; great-grandchildren, Stiel Lovin, Josh Watson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Pete and Jenny Dawson, Pearl Ashley, George and QV Gillette, Wanda McNeal, James F. and Ruth Gillette, Charles and Ruby Gillette, Bea Everhart, Cleo Snowden, Jim and Flora Drinnon, Bernice Gillette, Blanche Smith, Venie Smith; several nieces and nephews. Billie’s family come together at this time for comfort, but also to remember how much Billie loved our Lord, Morningside Baptist Church, and his family with all his heart. Billie was a humble and honest man in all he said and did. We thank God for our time with him and find strength in knowing he is in heaven. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, December 12, 1998 at Morningside Baptist Church from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with funeral services to be held immediately thereafter. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, 1998 at Hamblen Memory Gardens with the Reverends Ross Woody and George Johnson officiating. CURL, MICHAEL EUGENE, age 32, of White Pine, passed away suddenly 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 9, 1998 at his residence. Member of Grace Baptist Church. Preceded in death by grandmothers: Elizabeth Miller and Mossie Curl. Survived by mother: Shirley Curl of Jefferson City; father and wife, Eugene and Pat Curl of Rutledge; sisters, Jill Moyers of Jefferson City and Sherry Ripple of Tampa, Fla.; nephew, Paul Moyers of Jefferson City; step-mother, Rose Curl of Jefferson City; several aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives; special friend, Lisa Trent of Morristown. Funeral services 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 11, 1998 at Farrar Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bobby Dukes and Reverend Randy Irons officiating. Family and friends will gather 9:45 a.m. Saturday, December 12, 1998 at Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery for a 10:00 a.m. interment service.
