TURNER, IVA WINTER, 75, of Parrottsville, died Tuesday at Johnson City Medical Center due to an automobile accident. She was a faithful member of the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church and a charter member of the Natural Bridge Ruritan Club where she helped with many community projects. She operated a dairy farm for many years in the Harned Chapel Community where all who knew her loved her and was known for her helping of others and good cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Emma Winter; brother, Floyd Winter; daughter, Anna Jo Ottinger; and husbands, Everette Ottinger and Herbert “Bo” Turber. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Cline of Parrottsville; step-children, Peggy Freshour of Newport and Jerry Turner of Clinton; sisters, Betty Nease of Parrottsville and Shirley Leach of Morristown; granddaughters and husbands, Renee and Danny Strange, Dawn and Jerry (Mickey) Johnson of Parrottsville and Michelle and Eric Knowles of Missouri; grandson, Chris Cline of Parrottsville; step-grandson, Eric Freshour of Newport; great-grandchildren, Daniel Strange, Erick Knowles and Baby Johnson due in December; step-great-granddaughter, Robyn Freshour. Funeral service will be held Friday 2:00 p.m. at the Manes Funeral Home with the Rev. Claude Villemaire officiating. Interment will be in the Harned Chapel Cemetery. KIRKPATRICK, WILLIE NELSON, age 78, of the Persia Community, Rogersville, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 1998, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, following an extended illness. He was a member of Persia Baptist Church. He was a retired carpenter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Kirkpatrick; parents, Charlie and Lucy Kirkpatrick; brother, John Brown Kirkpatrick. He is survived by several nieces and nephews; special friends, Johnny and Loretta White and family of Rogersville. KENNEY, HAZEL COWARD, 88, passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998 in Heritage Manor in Rogersville. She was preceded in death by her husband Rex Wayland Kenney; parents, William and Bertha Coward; brother, W.J. Coward Jr., and sister, Agnes C. Young. She was a life long member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church; a member of Delta Kappa Gamma; the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 471, and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was a graduate of Tusculum College and received her Masters Degree in Education from East Tennessee State University. She considered it an honor to teach in Hawkins County schools for fifty years. She also taught at Harrison Chilhowee Academy in Seymour. She is survived by one brother, Walter S.. Coward of St. Clair; nieces, Billie S. Sutherland, Betsy R. Michel, Jackie A. Carnes, Audrey Gilliam, Betty Joe Norton, Rebecca Buchanan, Becky Goodson, and Billie S. Kennedy; nephews, Robert L. Young, Samuel Young Jr., William F. Young, and Stanley Coward; several great-nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home. SMITH, RUBY LEE WEST, age 84, of 5740 Charlene Drive, Russellville, passed away Saturday, September 26, 1998 at Heritage Center. She was a charter member of Fernwood Baptist Church and served as clerk of the church for over 50 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Smith. Survivors include: daughters, Sue Wassum of Russellville, Georgia Huntsinger of California; son, Randy Smith of Morristown; brother, James West of Morristown; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. WINSTEAD, LUTHER, age 75, of 1211 East Old A.J. Hwy. Talbott, TN., formerly of Rogersville, passed away Sunday, October 4, 1998, at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital after an extended illness. He was a member of Henard’s Chapel Baptist Church and was retired from Phillips Magnavox after 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Oma Price Winstead and three brothers, Carl, Frank and Walter Winstead. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Winstead of the home; one son, Billy Joe Winstead of Rogersville; two daughters, Mrs. David (Barbara) Greer and Mrs. Paul (Debbie) Bledsoe of Rogersville; two step-sons, Danny Feagins of Kingsport and Dennis Feagins of Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Bennie Burton of Rogersville; seven grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. BARNARD, GLENN EARNEST SR., age 85, of Mohawk, passed away Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at Mt. Home. He was the son of the late I.J. and Kate Barnard and was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Arnott Barnard; sister, Jewel Hipshire and daughter, Patricia Fuller. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors: children, Glenn E. Barnard Jr., and his wife, Tracy of Mohawk, Carolyn Fellers and her husband, Charlie of Mosheim, Garry Barnard and his wife Kathy of Mohawk; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
