STIPES, FRANKLIN L., 72, of Strawberry Plains, passed away Tuesday morning at St. Mary’s Hospital in Knoxville. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Strawberry Plains and a Navy veteran of World War II, having served on the USS Enterprise. He was a lifetime member of the USS Enterprise CV6 Club. Retired from ASARCO Mines with 39½ years service. Funeral service 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fielden Chapel with Rev. Craig Ward officiating. Interment 11 a.m. Thursday in East View Memorial Garden. FARMER, JAMES ‘FORNEY’, age 82, of Morristown, passed away yesterday, June 15, 1999. Mr. Farmer was a veteran of World War II and a member of Grace Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Herman Farmer and Eva Robertson; son, James Franklin; and son-in-law, Charles E. Goan. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Willie Ruth Farmer; son, Wayne D. and wife Carolyn Farmer; daughters, Cheryl and husband J.W. Barnard, and Lois Goan; brother, Frank Farmer; grandchildren, Greg and wife Kathy Goan, Ramelle and husband Scotty Carpenter, Kerry and wife April Barnard, Chris and wife Amanda Barnard, Angela and husband Chris Cameron, and Johnathan Farmer; great-grandchildren, include Tyler Barnard, Allison Carpenter, Kirklyn Barnard, and Rachel, husband Todd Morlock. He is also survived by his aunt Lillie Cupp, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. James Farmer was retired from Berkline Furniture Manufacturing. The family will receive friends Wednesday June 16 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 17 at Westside Chapel. The military segment of the service will be conducted by the Morristown VFW. The service will be officiated by Revs. Thomas B. Owen and J.B. Gulley. Burial will be at Jarnagin Cemetery. FUNK, ARLOLA ‘BUCKY’, age 79, of Carrboro, N. C., formerly of Morristown, passed away Saturday, June 12, 1999 peacefully at her home. Mrs. Funk proudly served as a Captain in the Army Nurses Corp during World War II and the Korean Conflict. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. Funk; parents, Clay and Ethel Buckner; and sisters, Azalia Comfort and Aradia Overholt. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Koren Funk of Carrboro, N.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Lerneda Buckner and H.D. Buckner of Knoxville; nieces, Anne Chandler of Knoxville, Alison Buckner, M.D., of Baltimore, Md. and Roberta Leichty of Evansville, Ind.; nephew, Dooley Buckner of Knoxville; many other nieces and nephews. HARGROVE, MARTHA F., age 77, of Rogersville, passed away 3 a.m. Monday, June 14, 1999, at Hawkins County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. She was a member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church. She was born in Hancock County and was a member of the American Legion Auxillary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Connie Hargrove; mother, Emma Johnson Fugate and father, Mack Fugate. She is survived by three step-sons, Dave Hargrove of Minneapolis, Minn., C.B. Hargrove of Atlanta, Ga., Ralph Hargrove of Huntsville, Ala., and a host of relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Colboch-Price Chapel with Father Michael Jennings officiating. JOHNSON,AARON, age 92, of Duffield, VA., passed away Monday, June 14, 1999 at Ridgecrest Manor in Duffield. He was a resident of Lee County, Va., most of his life, and was a retired farmer. MILLER, KARL KEITH, age 33, of 1220 Sager Road, Dandridge, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, June 15, 1999, at his residence. Mr. Miller was a member of the Brown’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and was a prominent carpenter by trade in the Dandridge area. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Green Miller of the home; daughter, Jackie Miller of Dandridge, parents, Fred and Dorothy Miller of Dandridge; brothers, Garland and Freddy and sister, Gail, all of Dandridge; many nieces, nephews, family and friends. MUSSER, BOBBY ALLAN, age 23, of Talbott, passed away Saturday, June 12, 1999 at U.T. Medical Center as a result of a motorcycle accident. He was a member of Thankful Baptist Church, and an active member of the 190th Combat Engineer Company of the Tennessee Army National Guard. He was preceded in death by his father, Milburn Parker and sister, Sandra Grayes. RISNER, DEWEY, age 75, of 210 Arrington Road, died Tuesday, June 15, 1999, at at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Risner was preceded in death by his parents, Jones Richard and Mary Margaret Smith Risner; sisters, Clemon Smith and Cecilia Risner; brothers, David Risner, James Clay Risner, Henry Clay Risner and Eugene Risner.
