SELLS, DOROTHEA BARNES, age 77, of Rogersville, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Holston Valley Hospital, following a brief illness, She retired from BellSouth with over 35 years of service. She was a member and Past Worthy Matron of Hasson Lodge No. 179, Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of Telephone Pioneers of America. She was preceded in death by her husband, V.M. Sells; father, William Barnes; mother, Grace Barnes Dickey; sister, Billie Barnes. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Margaret Sells of Rogersville and Frank Eugene and Joyce Martin of Murphy, N.C.; sister, Mrs. James (Sue) Hubbard of Murphy, N.C.,; step-brother, Edward Dickey of Murphy, N.C.,; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Eastern Star services will be held 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Hasson Lodge No. 179, O.E.S. Funeral services will follow. BURTON, MRS. H. VIOLA age 95, of Nashville, TN., died Wednesday, March 17, 1999 at Baptist Hospital, Nashville, TN. Mrs. Burton was born on September 10, 1903 in Sneedville, TN., the daughter of the late Origin Morrow Davis and Rufus Catherine Bruce Davis. She was married to Robert Zetty Burton who preceded her in death in 1960. Seven of their children preceded her in death.: Ula Frances Burton, Mary Louise Burton, Robert Lee Burton, Mildred Juanita Grantham, James Albert Burton, Betty Marie Sullins and Ruby Pauline Bennett. Mrs. Burton is survived by three sons: William Chelsey Burton of Nashville, TN., Johnie Edward Burton of Nashville, TN. and Alvin Ray Burton of Smithville, TN.; two daughters, Margaret Gevena Dabbs of Nashville, TN., and Barbara Jean Wooten of Watertown, TN.; 59 grandchildren; 124 great-grandchildren and 62 great-great-grandchildren Funeral service for Mrs. Burton will be held Saturday morning, March 20, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes conducted by Bro. COX, VELMA SMITH, age 82, passed away Thursday, March 18th in Hickory, N.C. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Samuel (Bill) Cox and parents, Paul and Ella Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Cox resided in Dandridge before Mr. Cox’s death. Survivors: brother, George Smith of Hickory, N.C., with whom she made her home for the past eight years since the death of her husband. Other survivors are stepson, Al Cox of Washburn, TN.,; stepson and daughter-in-law, Franklin and Myrna Cox of Morristown; and step-daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Norman Long of Kodak, TN.; special former daughter-in-law, Evadean Cox Owen; step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. ESSARY, CECIL GROVER (DOUGHBELLY), , age 67, of Tazewell, was born August 5, 1931, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 1999 at Claiborne Nursing Home. He was a member of New Tazewell United Methodist Church where he was an usher and served on several committees. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, he served from 1951-1953 and remained in the Reserves from 1953-1958. He also served as a Claiborne County Commissioner for 4 years. Cecil was part owner and manager of Tazewell Auto Parts for over 30 years. He was owner and operator of A-L Radiator Shop in New Tazewell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Cretia (Neely) Essary of Tazewell; brothers, Joe Frank Essary and Hugh Clinton Essary and one sister, Vida Essary Brooks. Survived by his loving wife of 41 years Barbara Harmon Essary of Tazewell; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Jeff Rogers of Harrogate; son, Franklin Cecil Essary of Tazewell; step-daughter, Jenna Vannoy of Harrogate; sisters, Pauline Willis of Maryville, Irene Brown of Knoxville, Betty Lou Davis of New Tazewell; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. His family wishes to give special thanks to the doctors and nurses at U.T. Hospital for their loving care and concern, as well as the entire staff of Claiborne County Nursing Home, Tazewell. Frankenberg Jr., and wife Nancy of Bean Station, TN., and Ernest Frankenberg and wife Deborah, of Nashville, TN.; two daughters, Jean Harper of Largo, Fl., and Ginger Mellinger and husband, Pete of Richland, WA.; three grandchildren, Christopher Frankenberg, Scott Mellinger and Staci Mellinger; one great-granddaughter, Devin Mellinger; sister, Elizabeth Frankenberg, Knoxville, TN. Preceded in death by two step-sons, Daryl Lynn Hoard, Long Beach, CA., and Harold Jerry Hoard, Morristown, TN; three brothers, Alfred, Henry, and Charlie; and sister, Emma Lewis. Mr. Frankenberg retired from the Southern Railroad after 44 years. He was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.. She was a faithful member and Sunday School teacher at Trent Valley Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lon S. Seal; son, Douglas T.
