DENNIS, MILDRED, 87, of Mooresburg, passed away Saturday, April 3, 1999. She was the widow of Emery Dennis and member of Mooresburg United Methodist Church. DOUGLAS, RUBIN HENRY (JACK), of Morristown, born January 10, 1925, passed away on Friday, April 2, 1999, at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. He was a veteran of World War II and had worked for Enka for 37 years. Mr. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lillian Douglas and a son, J.L. Douglas. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Helen Douglas of Morristown; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Tom Henry of Morristown; one granddaughter, Morgan Henry of Morristown; brothers, David and Terry Douglas of Newport; and a sister, Wilma Bryant of Newport. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, at Mayes Mortuary. The Rev. Terry Clapp and Rev. Stan Chaney will officiate. Military graveside services will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post 5266 in the Hamblen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Mayes Mortuary. Mayes Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
HURST, FRED D., age 60, of 1310 Lincoln Avenue, Morristown, went to be with Jesus on March 16, 1999 at his home. He was a member of Roe Junction Baptist Church for 20 years. He worked at Lea Industry for 24 years. Preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Relda Hurst; brother, Raymond Doyle and son, Robert Steve. Survivors: wife of 38 years, Linda S. Hurst; children, Betty Ann, James David, Billy Wayne, Paul and Peggy Hurst, Johnny and Deanna Hurst, Eddie Lee and Tina Hurst, all of Morristown; grandchildren, Chris, Jessica, Ashley, Nicky, Jonathan and Cody; brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Iva Hurst; sisters, Gladys (Ray) Harrell, and Barbara (Jackie) Hurst; several nieces and nephews; special sisters-in-law, Betty Spurgeon, Christine Atkins,Bonnie Hopkins and Iva Hurst; special friend, Greg King and a host of others. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Roe Junction Baptist Church with Revs. Ray Seals and Elmer Lampkin officiating. Interment will be at Roe Junction Cemetery. LEE, ROGER LYNN, of Morristown, born March 31, 1948, passed away on March 15, 1999 at Lakeway Regional Hospital following an extended illness. He was a member of Dover Cumberland Presbyterian Church; an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was employed by Lakeway Container, Inc., for 23 years. Preceded in death by his father, William R. Lee and sister, Bobbie Ann Lee. Survivors; wife, Kim Lee of Morristown; daughter, Morgan Lee of Colorado; mother, Mary W. Lee of Morristown; brother, Bill D. Lee of Morristown; sisters, Glenda Cowan of Morristown, Susie Starnes of Knoxville; special cousin, Ruby Lee Heck of Morristown; several nieces and nephews. Services will be 8 p.m. Thursday at Mayes Mortuary with Dr. Howard Shipley officiating. Private graveside service will be Friday. NICHOLS, JOHN HUBERT, was born May 30, 1912 to Carra Nancy Jobe Nichols and Spencer Finley Nichols in Blount County, Tennessee. He departed this life on March 15, 1999. Most of his childhood years were spent in Morristown, TN., where he attended school. He was drafted into the United States Army and saw action in Africa during World War II. Following his release from the military, John served as a bellman at the historic John Sevier Hotel in downtown Johnson City, TN. Upon his retirement, he returned to Morristown to reside at “the homeplace,” spending his days tending the farm. He worked at the First Tennessee Bank for a brief time and became a non-active Hamblen County Deputy Sheriff before settling into complete retirement. He leaves to cherish his memory, a son James A. Whiteside and daughter-in-law Gloria Thomas Whiteside, who resides in Kingsport; two grandchildren: Dana Jermaine Andrew Whiteside, Johnson City, TN., and Kristen Leanne Whiteside, Harrisburg, PA.; one sister, Mrs. Ollie Nichols Mackey, Gary, IN.; and one brother, James A. Nichols of Morristown, TN. He leaves also a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Calling hours are from 1 until 2 p.m. Friday at Young’s Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, Morristown. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Danny Johnson officiating. Burial services will follow at Morristown City Cemetery with military graveside services by VFW Post No. 5266. The family is being served by Dockery Funeral Home of Morristown.
