GILPEN, IRENE H., age 75, of 813 Pine Ridge Road, Rogersville, passed away Friday evening, March 19, 1999, at Hawkins County Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Gilpin (who operated Gilpin’s Market for many years); parents, O.L. and Grace Bradley Hill; brothers, Tim Hill, Chester Hill, Earl Hill, Glenn Hill, and T.J. Hill. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Dan Brooks of Rogersville; two grandchildren, Melissa Baird and John Brooks; two great-grandchildren, Hley Baird and Grace Baird; sister, Georgia Taylor of Springfield, Ohio; special cousin, Mae Bradley Bennett; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held 8:30 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 1999, at Colboch-Price Chapel. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, March 22, 1999, at McKinney Cemetery. GIVENS, KYLE (SONNY), age 70, of Sneedville, was born Sept. 25, 1928 and departed this life Friday, March 19, 1999, following a massive heart attack at home. He was a member of Sneedville First Baptist Church. He was retired from the Tennessee Department of Transportation. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Pearl Givens, granddaughter, Jennifer Leigh Givens. He is survived by Frances Givens, wife of 50 years of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Shelia Givens of Sneedville; son, Billy Givens and wife, Ginger of Knoxville. He is also survived by special cousins, Howard and Delois Seal of Dandridge, TN. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 1999 at the McNeil Funeral Home in Sneedville. Rev. JARNAGIN, FANNIE O., 87, formerly of 103 Coates Road, Bulls Gap, passed away Friday, March 19, 1999 in Heritage Manor in Rogersville, following an extended illness. She was the oldest active member of Liberty Hill Primative Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday School teacher and church clerk for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Jarnagin, parents, Hunley and Cloda Swatsell; brothers, Edd, Elmer, Dave, Elbert, and Leroy Swatsell, and a sister, Hattie Gulley. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Shirley Jarnagin of Surgoinsville, and Jimmy and Brenda Jarnagin of Bulls Gap; granddaughters, Nikki Jarnagin of Surgoinsville, Beverly and Jamie Jarnagin of Bulls Gap; grandsons, Brad Jarnagin of Surgoinsville, and Jeff Jarnagin of Bulls Gap; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7-9 p.m., and Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, with funeral service to follow at 8 p.m., with Rev. John Arnott and Rev. JONES, MRS. DOVIE M., age 97, of Johnson City, TN., formerly of White Pine and Morristown, passed away Friday evening, March 19, 1999 at Asbury Center Nursing Home in Johnson City. Widow of the late W.T. Jones and also preceded in death by her sister Rose Belle Ward. Member of the Central Baptist Church of Johnson City. Retired school teacher, having taught for a number of years in the Harlan County and City Schools. An avid author of religious poetry and she was a Kentucky Colonel. Survived by step-daughter Eulah Miller of Middlesboro, Ky., nephew, Brown Lee Ward of Cincinnati, Ohio; great-niece and nephew Alan Kinser of Morristown, and Carol Musick of White Pine; several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday from Farrars White Pine Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Richey and Rev. James Kinser officiating. MILLS, JAMES HENRY and ANNA LAURA, age 63, of Morristown, passed away March 18, 1999 in Florida. They were members of Enterprise Baptist Church, where he was Sunday School Director, and she was Sunday School Nursery attendant and adopted Grandmother to all the children at Enterprise Church. Mr. Mills was a member of Masonic Lodge #390 F&AM, and he was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Clay and Lillie Mae Mills. Mrs. Mills was preceded in death by her father, Roy Horner; brothers, James, Stanley, J.W., Thomas Dewey, and Roy Horner, Jr. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Vickie Mills of Morristown; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Kent Biggs of Morristown; grandchildren, Jerod and Jacob Mills, Seth and Sloane Biggs. Mr. Mills was survived by a brother, Cecil Mills of Morristown. Mrs. Mills was survived by her mother, Hannah Horner of Jefferson City; sisters, Edna Pennett of Brooklet, Ga., Rosa Kinder of Jefferson City, Maggie Gilliam of Jefferson City; brothers, Ray Horner of Morristown, DeWitt Horner of Jefferson City, Mack Horner of Mt. Morris, IL., and Haskell Horner of Louisville, KY. They were also survived by several nieces and nephews. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mayes Mortuary Chapel with Revs. Jim Turner, T.A. OTTINGER, LYNN D. (RED), age 63, of Morristown, died Thursday, March 18, in Jacksonville, Florida as a result of an automobile accident. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church, was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and retired from B.A.S.F. He was preceded in death by his parents, Greer and Mildred Ottinger; brothers, Tobe, Willis, and Hugh Ottinger of Parrottsville, and Charlie Ottinger of Chestnut Hill. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Beth Ottinger of Morristown; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Joan and Paul Combs of Rutledge; brother and sister-in-law, Rex and Sharon Ottinger of Parrottsville; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. STAMBAUGH, JIM W., 68, passed away Saturday morning in Ridgeview Terrace Nursing Home, Rutledge. Son of the late James and Jessie Kate Stambaugh, he was born February 13, 1931 in Jenkins, Kentucky. Following graduation from Eastern Kentucky University, Mr. Stambaugh worked for the U.S. Government at Oak Ridge before attending U.T. Law School to graduate in the class of ‘58. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Morristown, and belonged to the American Bar Association, Hamblen Bar Association, Tennessee Bar Association, Tennessee Trial Lawyers, American Trial Lawyers, American Judicature Society, B.P.O.E., and was a supporter of Little League Baseball. Deeply missed by sons, J.J. Stambaugh, Knoxville, Wayne R. Stambaugh, Birmingham, Alabama; grandson, James Patrick Stambaugh; sister, Barbara Williams, Charleston, South Carolina. Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Monday at All Saints Episcopal Church with the Rev. Louis Oats officiating. Committal services 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville. DALTON, JOHN WESLEY, 94, passed away Saturday evening at the Baptist Hospital of Cocke County, following a short illness. He faithfully attended West End Tabernacle. John had worked at Stokely Van Camp for 33 years before his retirement in 1969. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martha Eloise Wiley Dalton of Newport; children, Hubert Dalton, and his wife Carolyn, Charles Dalton, Janie and her husband, Elmo Kelley, Sue Fine, Margaret and her husband, Arvin Keyes, Gail Howard, Denese and her husband, Orville Henderson and Sandy Van Dyke, all of Newport, Martha and her husband, Hugh Campbell of Chucky, and Tricia and her husband, Alan McCoy of Johnson City; brother, Charles Earl Dalton and his wife Sarah of Cosby; 24 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Sylvia Click of Newport; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. John was preceded in death by his sons, John Ray and Aubrey Dale Dalton; son-in-law, Arlie Fine.
