ARMSTRONG, KENNETH RICHARD, age 65, of Rutledge (Buffalo Community), passed away Tuesday, March 2, 1999 at his residence. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced later by Smith Funeral Home in Rutledge, TN.

DOUTHAT, AUSTIN L. (FAT), age 74, of Morristown, passed away March 3, 1999 at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. He was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II; a member of Masonic Lodge No, 231; Eastern Star No. 31; Past Worthy Patron and a member of V.F.W. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers. Survivors: wife of 50 years, Lois Cobble Douthat; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Julia Douthat of Midway, Boyd and Kathy Douthat of Dandridge; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Nelle Douthat of Glenwood, Dick and Polly Douthat of Cunning, GA.; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Walter Dyer of Mohawk; several nieces and nephews. Masonic services will be 8:30 p.m. Friday at Mayes Mortuary with Lodge No. 231. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mayes Mortuary with Rev. David Jones officiating. Military graveside services to follow in Hamblen Memory Gardens with V.F.W. Post No. 5266. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.. Friday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Mayes Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

JARNIGAN, MARCELLA REED age 72, of Morristown, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 1999 at Lakeway Regional Hospital. She was a member of Roe Junction Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Jess B., and Susie Antrican Reed and her husband, Robert L. Jarnigan. Survivors include her son, Ronald E. Jarnigan with whom she made her home and David M. Jarnigan; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Connie M. Reed and Ollie Knight; very special friends, Clifford and Jean Drinnon and Lissie Hipshire. Funeral services 11:00 a.m. Friday at Stubblefield Funeral Home with Rev. Curt Seal, Rev. Barren Warren and Rev. Leonard Carpenter officiating. Interment in St. Paul Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown. Stubblefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

LOWERY MRS. THELMA L., age 61, of White Pine, passed away at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday morning, March 3, 1999, at Lakeway Regional Medical Center in Morristown following an extended illness. Mrs. Lowery was a member of the First Baptist Church of White Pine and was preceded in death by her mother, Flossie Loveday and brother, James Pascal Martin. Surviving is her husband, of 43 years, Wayne F. Lowery of the home; children, Gwen Treece of Whitesburg, Tony Lowery of Newport and Deirdre Vasser of Whitesburg; grandchildren, Christopher Vassar of Whitesburg and Melissa Lowery of Jefferson City; special friend, Mark R. Hughes of Whitesburg; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning, March 6, 1999, in the Dandridge Memorial Gardens with Reverend James M. Lowery officiating. Family and friends will meet at Farrar Funeral Home in White Pine at 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning to proceed to the cemetery for services. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Friday evening, March 5, 1999, at the funeral home. MCCAMPBELL, DONALD LEE (SHORTY), 63, of New Market, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 1999 at Jefferson City Health an Rehab Center. He was a member of Nances Grove Baptist Church. Funeral service 8 p.m. Thursday at Fielden Chapel with Rev. Ira Minton officiating. Interment 11 a.m. Friday in McCampbell Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday 6-8 p.m. at Fielden Funeral Home, New Market. Fielden Funeral Home in charge.

BAILEY, MARTHA GARTMAN, age 48, of Sheridan, Ark., wife of Dean Bailey and daughter-in-law of Rev. Woodrow Bailey has died. Funeral service 10 a.m. Wednesday at Buie Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan, Ark. Burial in New Hope Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Buie Funeral Home. GOAN, SANFORD PAUL, age 81, of White Pine, born November 3, 1917 to Ezekiel Hardin Goan and Rebecca Lennon Goan, passed away March 2, 1999 at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare. He was a life long active member of Witt Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School Secretary and cemetery sexton for many years. Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Floyd E. Goan; sisters, Lora Knight, Mary Collins and Erma L. Goan; and nephew, Don Knight. He was in the dry cleaning business in White Pine for approximately 48 years, many of those years with his brother, Floyd. Survivors: Alfred L. Goan; nieces, Phyllis Baird and Wanda Walls; nephews, Edwin Goan and David Collins; several great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Witt Baptist Church with Dr. William Palmer officiating. The body will lie in state at the church, one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Grand nephews will serve a pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Mayes Mortuary. Mayes Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

HARVEY, MARTHA A., 67, of Whitesburg, passed away Monday, March 1, 1999. She was a member of Calvue Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown. Interment in Bent Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. KNIGHT, BONNIE KATE VICK, age 88, of White Pine, passed away suddenly 6:45 p.m. March 1, 1999 at Lakeway Regional Hospital in Morristown. Mrs. Knight was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church for more than 53 years, where she was active in many functions until her later years. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Billy Bruce Knight; her parents, Dave and Anna McMillan Vick; and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include her husband, Forrest A. Knight of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Harris and friend, Ken of Morristown, and Rita Gardner and husband, Cleve of White Pine; grandchildren, Robin Jones of Morristown, George Harris of Bean Station, Scottie Thomas of White Pine. and Christy Williams of White Pine; sister, Mrs. Emma Deane Dawson of Newport; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, March 3, 1999, from Farrar Funeral Home Chapel in White Pine with Reverend Bill Lichlyter and Reverend Leroy Forgey officiating. Family and friends will meet at Farrar Funeral Home in White Pine at 10:15 a.m. Thursday morning, March 4, 1999, and proceed to Hamblen Memory Gardens in Morristown for an 11:00 a.m. graveside interment service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening prior to services at the funeral home. STAPLETON, BILLY B., age 63, of Washburn, passed away Monday March 1, 1999 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Nelson and Martha Coffey Stapleton. Survivors include wife, Margaret (Sally) Jones Stapleton of Washburn; son, Joseph Bently Stapleton of Knoxville; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Tim Belk of Wasburn; brother, Robert Nelson Stapleton Jr., of Rutledge; sister, Shirley Stapleton Kincaid of Dayton, OH.; grandsons, Jared and Ryon Belk; nieces and nephews, Craig, Doug, Michael and Sherry Kincaid of OH.; and mother-in-law, Ina Ruth Jones. Funeral services for Mr. Stapleton will be held Wednesday , March 3, 1999 at 8:00 p.m. in the Smith Funeral HomeChapel with Rev. Fred Parker and Rev. Denver Davidson officiating. Graveside services will be Thursday, March 4, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. in the Liberty Hill Cemetery in Washburn with the honorary pallbearers being fellow Bank Directors of the Citizens Bank and Trust of Grainger County. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements by Smith Funeral Home in Rutledge.
