POWERS, NEVIN MOORYE BOWLES, widow of the late Dr. William M. Powers, died Wednesday, January 13, in Morristown, TN. She was the daughter of the late Marguerite Melton Bowles and Allie Virgil Bowles of Camden. She is survived by her daughter Paulette Powers Hodge and son-in-law, Samuel Jady Hodge of Morristown; sister, Nelle Laurie Bowles Wear, and niece, Wanda Wear Woolen of Nashville and niece Ava Jeanne Bowles Laycock of Martin. A native of Camden, Tennessee, Mrs. Powers has resided in Clarksville for 45 years and was retired from Clarksville-Montgomery County Board of Education. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarksville. Funeral services will be Sunday, January 17 at 2:00 p.m. at McReynolds-Nave and Larson Funeral Home. Visiting hours are from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday prior to the service. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. STARNES, LOYD JR., 61, of Newport, died Tuesday at his home. He was encouraged during his last days due to the love and caring deeds of his precious family and friends. He was Director of Manufacturing for the Volunteer Blind Industries and considered the employees as his second family. He was a member of the Lions Club and attended Calvary Baptist Tabernacle. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bea Starnes and sister, Betty Jean Starnes. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Starnes of the home; father, Loyd Starnes Sr., of Newport; sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Joyce Starnes of Parrottsville, Jeff and Linda Starnes of Newport, and Chad Starnes of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Buffy and Barry Gregory of Newport; brother, Lester Starnes of Newport; sisters, Peggy Parks of Parrottsville and Evelyn Taylor of Newport; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Manes Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Wells and Manson Lee officiating. Rev. Tom Mooty will be singing a favorite hymn of the family, “:Peace Wonderful Peace”, Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Union Cemetery with Rev. Tom Mooty officiating. TURNER, WILLIAM BEN, age 76, of White Pine, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 14, 1999 at Lakeway Regional Hospital in Morristown. He was a retired repair technician for the Magnavox Corp.; veteran of World War II. Member of First Baptist Church of White Pine. He was preceded in death by his wife Edith Duckett Turner and his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Terry Boyer. Son of the late John Randolph and Love Clark Turner and also preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Eliza Metcalf, Deane Ellison, Fred Turner, Robert Turner, Wesley Turner and Daphene Dennis. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Randal and Donna Turner of White Pine; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 8:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 1999 from Farrars White Pine Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Richey officiating. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. prior to services. HORTON, MRS. VIRGINIA RUTH, age 81, of Jefferson City and formerly of Big Stone Gap, VA., passed away quietly. Thursday, January 14, 1999, at the Jefferson County Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt H. Horton; son, Charles Horton and granddaughter Lisa Satterfield. Survived by daughter, Zelma Allen of Jefferson City; 7 grandchildren including Kim Seals and Mary Allen, both of Jefferson City; 12 great-grandchildren including Taylor and Corey Seals, Emily and Ethan Satterfield and Amy and James Allen, all of Jefferson City; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Elmo Bush of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews. Survivors include her 10 children, Arthur, George, LaBreman, Sandy Wayne, Mannis, and Lannis Patterson, Linda Hendrickson, Janice Sinkhorn, of Morristown, and David Keith and Terry Bingham; her mother, Ocie Taylor; 16 grandchildren, including Steven Sinkhorn; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters and a brother, George Jr., Taylor.
