COLLINS, GEORGE HENRY, SR., age 84, of Knoxville, formerly of Rutledge, passed away suddenly Tuesday, January 19, 1999 at UT Medical Center. He was a member of New Blackwell Baptist Church in Rutledge. Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his wife, Callie Hysel (Peggy Collins); brothers, Lester, L.C., Kyle and Ralph Collins; sisters, Laura Harbin and Erma Lee Mounger. Survivors are daughter and son-in-law, Glynda and Kenneth Beeler, with whom he made his home; sons and daughters-in-law, G.H. and Celia Collins and Gale and Evelyn Collins; grandchildren and spouses, Gwen and Rick Cameron, Cathy and James Wilson, Audrey and David Hurst and Chris and Cheri Collins; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Cory Atchley, Callie Hurst, Danny and Matthew Collins; sister, Pearl Walters and several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 21 at 8:00 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Howard Hurst officiating. EDENS, MYRTLE MONEYHUN, age 100 years, 10 months, of Rogersville, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 1999, at Heritage Manor in Rogersville. She was a long time member of Kincaid Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Matt Edens; one son, Woodrow Edens; parents, Nicholas and Annis Moneyhun; two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her children, one daughter and son-in-law, Eunice and Dallas Salyer of Kingsport; four sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Mary, Lora and Marie, Herbert and Judy and Bob Edens, all of Rogersville; fourteen grandchildren; several great and great-great-grandchildren; many friends and neighbors. Friends will be received 6:30-8:00 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 1999, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville. The funeral will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Bob Boragine officiating. GILBERT, BOBBIE, age 86, of Thorn Hill, went to be with the Lord Friday, Jan. 22, 1999 at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital. She was a member of Yellow Branch Baptist Church and was preceded in death by husband, Charles Gilbert; son, Charles Gilbert Jr.; parents, Floyd and Jane Seals; sisters, Liddy Lawson, Mae Seals; brothers, Dick Seals, Tom Seals, Hoard Seals, all of Sneedville. Survivors: her son, Arlie W. Gilbert and daughter-in-law, Lucille; grandchildren, Billy Charles, Renee Gilbert, Jimmy Dean and Mary Gilbert; great- grandchildren, Misty Dawn Gilbert, Matthew Charles Gilbert, Christian Lee Gilbert, Faith Elizabeth Gilbert; sisters, Jessie Trent, Helen Seals. HORTON, MARY LOUISE, age 73, of Dandridge, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Thursday afternoon, January 21, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Jefferson City. She was the daughter of the late Jack and Blanche Horton of Dandridge and was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Horton Jr., and Joe C. Horton; and a sister, Joyce Horton. She was a graduate of Carson-Newman College and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and was employed by the Agriculture Extension Service in Cocke County until her retirement. She was a faithful member of the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church of Newport. She is survived by two brothers, George Reeves Horton of Longmont, Colorado and John Bluford Horton of Squin, Oregon; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday evening, January 22, 1999, from the Farrar Funeral Chapel in Dandridge with Dr. David Green officiating. JOHNSON, OSCAR ANDREW, age 82, of Jefferson City, formerly of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed way at 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening, January 21, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Jefferson City following a brief illness. He was a member of the Covenant Life Church in Morristown and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. Mr. Johnson was a retired employee of the Jefferson City Water Works. Mrs. Maples was preceded in death by parents, Sam Wesley and Mary Molly (Hodge) Owens; an infant son, Cecil Edward Maples, and husband, Frank (Beeman) Maples. WOODS, HENRY, age 74, of Morristown, passed away January 21, 1999 at Lakeway Regional Hospital. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and a Army veteran of World War II. Preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Woods and brother, James Woods. RHOTEN, MELVIN KENNETH, 91, Church Hill, Tennessee, born July 16, 1907 at Clinchport, Virginia, died January 7, 1999, at Indian Path Hospital. He began his career as a Morse Telegraph Operator, Appalachian Division, Southern Railway Company, on October 28, 1924; he was promoted to Train Dispatcher May, 1950, and retired from the Knoxville Tennessee Dispatcher Office December 30, 1972, having a 48-year service connection with Southern Railway Company. He was a charter member of the Valley Church of Christ, and before moving to Knoxville in the 1950’s, he served as an Elder of the Watauga Street Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Grace Necessary Rhoten; his parents, Emory Joseph and Bessie Kindle Rhoton; a brother, Arthur M. Rhoton; a step-granddaughter, Kathy Ensley; and a son-in-law, Rex W. Chapman. He is survived by two sons, Jack F. Rhoten (wife, Inez), Kingsport, Tennessee, and James K. Rhoten (wife-Mary), Rogersville, Tennessee; four daughters, Patsy Chapman, Weber City, Virginia, Jessie Cornett (husband-Carl), Church Hill, Tennessee, Frances Norton (husband-Charles), Morristown, Tennessee, and Judy Holmes (husband-Russell), Nokesville, Virginia; 21 grandchildren/step grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren/step grandchildren; one great-great grandson; brothers, Eugene Rhoton (wife-Virginia), Kingsport, Tennessee, and E.J. Rhoton (wife-Nell), Clinchport, Virginia; one sister, Hazel Dorton, Gate City, Virginia; and four nieces. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, January 10, 1999, at Oak Hill Funeral Home, with Charles Huff and Tim Hall officiating. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
