SHORT, ALMA LORA, age 49, of Morristown, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 1999, at U.T. Hospital. Funeral services will be Friday, January 8, 1999, 2:00 p.m. at Westside Chapel with Rev. Benny Jones and Rev. Robert McGeorge officiating. Interment to follow in Meek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Westside Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

ALLEN, MINNIE BELLE (BRYANT), age 96, born April 26, 1902 and died 3:35 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, 1999 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. Member of Oakwood Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School Class. Preceded in death by husband, Rev. Willis R. Allen; daughter-in-law, Mildred Peters Allen. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, J.D. Sr., and Shirley Allen, Powell; grandsons, James D. Allen Jr., Naples, Florida and Robert G. Allen, Johnson City, TN.; step-grandchildren, Patty Henson, Betsy Henson Black, William G. Jr., and Brad Henson; three step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Chapel service 1:30 p.m. Friday, Stevens Mortuary Chapel, Dr. James McCluskey and Rev. Gordon Greenwell officiating. Family and friends will meet 3:15 p.m. Friday at Jarnagin Cemetery, Morristown, for a 3:30 p.m. interment service. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made to Oakwood Baptist Church Van Fund, 111 E. Columbia Avenue, Knoxville, TN. 37917 or Wallace Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, 701 Merchants Road, Knoxville, TN. 37912. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at Broadway. Stevens Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

CARPENTER, GEORGE H., age 65, of Mooresburg, passed away Thursday, January 7, 1999 at Jefferson City Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was a member of Bible View Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Carpenter; mother, father, brothers, and sister. Survivors include: son, Lester Carpenter of Greeneville; daughter, Janice White of Ohio; sons, Jeff Carpenter and Steve Carpenter of Ohio; step-children, Randy Russell, Keith Russell, and Tammy Russell of Morristown; 11 grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 1999 at Mayes Mortuary with Rev. John Richard officiating. Interment will follow at Big Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday evening at the mortuary. Mayes Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

CLARK, ROBERT FRANK, died on Thursday January 7, 1999, at Heritage Center. He was the son of the late J. Allen Clark and Matoka Sexton Clark and was preceded in death by sisters, Mrs. Pearl Randall, Mrs. Roxie Humphreys, Vera Frances Clark and brother, William M. (Sixty) Clark. He was born in Del Rio and lived in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Fla., thirty six years where he owned and operated the Beachcomber Barber Shop. He was a charter member of First Church of God (Anderson, IN.) of Ft. Lauderdale, where he served on a number of boards, including Board of Trustees and was head usher for more than thirty years. He was a member of Gideons International. After returning to Tennessee in 1988, he attended the First Church of God, W. Economy Road in Morristown. Survivors include his wife, Frances Pauline Clark; sisters, Mrs. Nellie Clark and Mrs. Pauline Greer; two nephews, Ronnie and Terry Clark of Greeneville; one niece, Carolyn Alexander of Johnson City; nephews by marriage, Eugene and M.R. Courtney, H.C. and Ronnie White of Whitesburg, C.A. Walker of Bradenton, Fla.; nieces by marriage, Mrs. Aileen Early of Whitesburg and Mrs. Marjorie Range of Elizabethton. Services will be held at Westside Chapel Funeral Home on Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. with Reverend Willis Bowers officiating. He will be assisted by Rev. Randall Joins. Graveside services will be at Catherine Nenney Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery, Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday evening at Westside Chapel prior to the services. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the First Church of God and neighbors of Beacon Hills Community. Nephews to serve as active pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Lakeway Program and Services of Morristown, TN., 600 N. Daisy St., Morristown, TN., 37813. Westside Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

GRUBER, MARC ERIC, age 26, of Morristown, serving with the U.S. Navy in San Diego, CA., passed away Friday, January 1, 1999 in CA. He was the son of Carl and Patricia Gruber of Morristown. Funeral arrangements to be announced later by Westside Chapel Funeral Home.

KNOWLING, ELMER W., age 91, of Talbott, passed away 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church; a retired farmer; and a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. Survivors include his wife, Julia Hopkins Knowling of Talbott; brother, Horace Knowling of Billings, Montana; sister, Grace Hill of Talbott; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday evening, January 8, 1999, from the Farrar Funeral Chapel in Jefferson City with Reverend Bob Griffith and Reverend Dale Gray officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Saturday morning, January 9, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 a.m. interment service. COOK, PATSY ANN, age 60, of Bean Station, formerly of Morristown, passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999 at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System. She had lived at Heritage Center for 14 months. She was a member of Noeton Missionary Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Harvey Cook. Survivors: special aunt and uncle, Clora and Richard Wright of Bean Station, with whom she made her home for three years; several other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Stubblefield Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Sexton and Rev. John Clonce officiating. Interment in Noeton Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown. Stubblefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

LYONS, CLAIRE MARCELLA, age 57, born July 24, 1942, passed away Thursday at home. Arrangements incomplete, will be announced later by Dockery Funeral Home, Morristown.

PATRICK, NANNIE HELEN OWENS, age 75, of Elk Street, Greeneville, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 7, 1999 at Takoma Hospital, Greeneville. Funeral services 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999 at Fairview Baptist Church. Interment in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home, Greeneville. Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

SPITZER, EMERSON CALVIN, 91, of Rogersville, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 1999 at Church Hill Health Care Center, after a short illness. He was a member of East Rogersville Baptist Church, and was retired from Gluck Brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Deliah Spitzer; wife, Elsie Spitzer; daughters, Faye Long and Marlene Poe; one brother; and five sisters. Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Jerry Gilmore; son and daughter-in-law, E.C. and Edna Spitzer, all of Rogersville; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, with funeral service to follow at 8:00 p.m. Rev. Grady Byrd, Rev. John Parrott Sr., Rev. Harold Manis and Rev. Tecky Hicks will officiate. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Speedwell Church Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home, Bulls Gap, in charge of arrangements.

SHEPARD, RUFUS W., age 79, a resident of Life Care passed away Thursday at Lakeway Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Shropshire Shepard and other relatives. Funeral service Sunday 11:00 a.m. at Westside Chapel with Rev. Charles Smith officiating. Interment in Jarnagin Cemetery.

WISECARVER, MRS. JOHN (LOETA MCCAMY), age 79, of Warrensburg Road, Midway, died Saturday morning, Jan. 9, 1999 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday from Doughty-Stevens Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home in Greeneville. Family and friends are asked to meet at Jarnagin Cemetery in Morristown at 10:30 a.m. Monday for the graveside service.
